Master negotiator at work
A young man filmed arguing with a sex worker after his adventures in bed ended prematurely has a colourful past, says a city businessman who linked him to the theft of his high-price motorbike.
A social media site last week aired the clip of the young man, identified as “Golf”, arguing with a sex worker after they agreed a price of 1,200 baht but he ejected prematurely. He lasted just two minutes, according to the clip, but when he asked for “double” (another go at it) for the same price was rebuffed.
In the clip which quickly went viral, Golf said he was told via the Line app that he could ask for another round of sex if the first one finished in 40 minutes.
His companion, however, insisted that while he had the right to ask, he would still have to pay 500 baht extra. She insisted he pay the full price agreed, not half the 1,200 baht for each round as he demanded.
The two sides fail to agree, and Golf storms out of what looks like a city condo amid much shouting.
Earlier, the clip shows him talking to another woman, described as an “intermediary” in news reports, while his companion with whom he slept films the encounter. At one point he lunges at her angrily, but she carries on filming undeterred.
The young woman insists he should pay the price agreed, as “you have had me now”. The intermediary takes her side and refuses to hand back the 600 baht Golf has handed over.
Golf, who earlier pulled out his phone chats to assure the pair he had dealt with such situations “many times” before, storms out. “If I give you just 600 baht you should regard it as a favour,” he shouted, while daring the young woman to go to the police.
The young woman appears to have done one better when the clip of their exchange found its way to social media.
Netizens, who viewed the clip millions of times, said they felt embarrassed on his behalf. Not only did he finish in bed prematurely, he coolly asked for a discount. Some also felt sorry for the young woman having to deal with such awkward customers.
A day after the clip aired, city businessman Ekkapong Srinorasaksil or Jee Sabomai, 39, said he recognised the young man as the same one who had stolen his high-price motorcycle in March last year.
Clips taken at the time by Mr Ekkapong and his group show Golf at the scene of his arrest by Nong Khaem police. As Mr Ekkapong and his friends taunt him, Kairawit “Golf” Chalermtri, aged 24, admits selling the Honda Zoomer X motorcycle via Facebook to raise money for his gambling habit.
He had stolen the bike from a car care shop, owned by a friend of Mr Ekkapong’s, who had employed Golf at the shop just four days before. Golf asked to borrow the bike to go on an errand and did not return.
The businessman, who runs a shop selling high-end bikes and an eatery by the same name, had declared on FB live that he would track the thief down. He was appalled to hear Golf had sold his pride and joy, worth about 100,000 baht after fancy add-ons, to a bike parts shop receiving stolen goods for just 4,000 baht.
Mr Ekkapong’s efforts to track down his prey gave the story momentum before Golf’s ultimate arrest. Using the ID card details which Golf left with the car care shop, Mr Ekkapong found his mother’s place in Tha Kham, Ban Khun Thian, and waited there for a week for Golf to show, without success.
After another alleged victim of Golf’s motorcycle thieving got in touch, Mr Ekkapong was able to find his father’s place, in soi Phetkasem 97, close to Nong Khaem station. However, Golf failed to show there either, and his Dad claimed he had moved to Ayutthaya.
Finally a young man came forward to say he had seen Golf riding the stolen Honda Zoomer X into soi Phetkasem 97, and that Golf liked to gamble at a den at the end of the soi.
Mr Ekkapong went back to Golf’s father’s place and did another FB live session, just as news came that Nong Khaem police had arrested Golf.
He was handed over to Phahon Yothin police, where the initial complaint was filed. Mr Ekkapong said he contacted the shop which received his stolen bike and said if they returned the bike that night, he would resist laying a complaint. “They rushed it over to me, though it came without the rego sticker or licence plate,” he said.
On FB last week, he taunted Golf in a series of posts, asking for an update on his case and if he had yet served any jail time for the theft of his bike. While Golf has wisely kept his head down, media reports made him the butt of their jokes.
The Thai slang word ‘berl’ (from “double”, a truncated form of the English) can also stand in for the sound a revving bike makes. Golf, they said, had gone from revving (berl!) a stolen bike last year to asking for double (berl) sex this time around, and still was no better off, they said.
Short stay in heaven
Lampang police nabbed a local drug lord after getting an attractive undercover officer to lure him to a short-stay motel.
CSD and Lampang police last week nabbed Channarong Suttha, or “Tum Sob Tui”, 39, after the woman, posing as a customer wanting to buy drugs, contacted him.
Police had heard Tum, a repeat drug offender, was back to his old tricks, but did not know how to entrap him, as he sells drugs only to friends. However, they also knew he was keen on sex.
After making contact on social media, Tum suggested the woman offer him sex in exchange for 10 speed pills which he would supply. He asked the woman to pick him up close to Tha Khao Noi temple, in Sob Tui of Muang district. He gave her directions to a short-stay hotel where he is a regular customer.
Ten minutes in, police knocked at the door of their room as agreed with their undercover agent, who opened it. The officers, who filmed the encounter, barge into the place and nab Tum as he is sitting, bare-chested.
He looks stunned, “as if heaven had come crashing down”, as one news report put it. They also found him with speed pills and drug-taking gear, though neither side had started anything at the time he was caught.
Amarin TV visited his family home in Pong Saen Thong, Muang, where they spoke to his elder brother Udom Yomeuy, 51.
He said Tum had served a total of eight years’ in jail for possession of drugs with intent to sell, in Lamphun and Lampang provinces, in three convictions since 2009. “He never learns his lesson. I warn him but Tum doesn’t listen,” he said.
The pair used to work in construction together, until Tum’s spell of offending began. He had married and his wife was 6-7 months pregnant when he was caught the first time. “He went to jail, and his wife had the child and fled, leaving me with the burden of raising the boy,” Mr Udom said.
After Tum came out of prison, he took over care for his son for a year or so before he was caught again. “When the boy was five, my wife and I asked Tum if we could raise the child as our own. Tum signed a legal document agreeing, as he knew he was beyond caring for the child. So it turned out to be, as he was caught again. Today the child is 12,” Mr Udom said.
Responding to news of the latest arrest, he said Tum was mad on sex, so no surprise if he should fall for the police bait. “It’s a case of a fish drowning in shallow water [someone tripped up by something basic],” he said.
“Mum and I would like this to be the last time he gets involved in drugs as she is now 72, and Tum himself is no kid any more,” he said.
