Getting away from it all
Janie
Beleaguered actress Janie Tienphosuwan has fled the country to recover from her divorce, with her and her former husband declaring they now want to make a new start.

Janie faked her departure on Tuesday and led the media on a cat-and-mouse chase at the airport on Thursday when she finally managed to slip away for a month-long trip to the US.

Officials at Suvarnabhumi airport escorted Janie to her flight through a special channel, after she pleaded for a quiet departure away from prying media eyes.

A large pack of reporters camped out in waiting, after hearing that she had faked her departure on a Thai Airways flight for Los Angeles two days before.

Janie met her husband, millionaire businessman Chonsawat "Ae" Asavahame in Samut Prakan on Tuesday to sign her divorce papers, days after images appeared on social media of a woman resembling Janie with bruises covering her body.

Initial reports that she had taken a flight to the US later the same day proved to be a diversion. Neither side has spoken to the media, with Janie pleading she is not strong enough to discuss her ordeal.

The graphic pictures came amid reports the pair’s marriage had ended in physical altercation. Few of Janie’s friends were willing to comment, referring reporters to Janie herself, who kept out of sight.

One actress friend confirmed the woman in the pictures was Janie, but said she couldn’t say if the bruises were real or if she was merely wearing elaborate make-up for a lakorn.

At the local body office, Janie quickly published a picture in which she holds up her signed divorce papers. Later the same day she declared on Instagram that she wanted to make a fresh start — a message echoed on Friday when Ae, writing on a new Instagram account, said the same thing.

Ae hosted a small religious ceremony at his Samut Prakan mansion on Tuesday, moving the spirit house on the grounds of his estate to improve his fortunes. He smiled at reporters but refused to discuss the end of his marriage.

Hours after news emerged that the couple had signed their papers, Janie published an image of her with a Thai Airways cabin attendant, amid reports she had brought forward her departure date. Her friend, actress Janesuda "Jane" Parnto, obligingly told reporters Janie had left early and intended to spend a month in the US with family.

Janie, escort
By Thursday, however, reporters had heard that Janie was in fact still in Bangkok, and had made up the story about her departure to escape media attention.

Reporters who gathered at Suvarnabhumi hoping to waylay her were unable to find Janie herself, though one snapped her being escorted through the airport to her flight.

As the media pack waited, Janie’s actress friend Nana Ribena turned up, surrounded by security, to speak to them.

"I'm travelling on the same flight as Janie to see a concert. I saw her just two days ago, and she was in good spirits," she said.

Nana apologised on actress Jane Parnto’s behalf for telling reporters Janie had left earlier in the week.

"She was in a blur through over-work and muddled up Janie’s departure date, though whether you believe that or not, I don’t know," she said.

On Thursday night, another image of Janie on board a plane had appeared, in which she is wearing a large hat and shades. Further images of Janie in the same attire, meeting fans at LA airport, appeared on Friday.

Her lawyer, Praman Luangwattanawanij, said legal action to reclaim marital or personal assets was unlikely. Janie had asked only for the return of her 7.5 million baht Porsche Boxster, which Ae had had converted to a 911 turbo. Ae had given his word he would give it back.

Janie and Ae, chairman of the Samut Prakan Provincial Administrative Organisation and a motor racer, married last August after a furtive five-month romance. Their union was unpopular, with Janie’s critics claiming she married Ae for the money.

Ae’s father is former deputy interior minister Vatana Asavahame, who is on the run from a corruption conviction. -

A less than tasteful display

Tack, Ton Horm
DJ and actor Paranyu "Tack" Rojanavudtitham has won back the loyalty of his DJ girlfriend, painting himself from head to toe in black to reclaim her affections.

Tack last week confirmed he and brassy DJ Sakoltala "Ton Horm" Tianpairojt were now back together, after declaring last month they would part ways.

They enjoy dressing in eccentric attire when they make up after a stormy patch.

After their most recent split, Tack painted himself in black and donned a wig to resemble a Malaysian "negrito". Wearing a loin cloth and clutching a red rose, he surprised Ton Horm at work.

Media reports said it was Tack’s return to don "funny gear", after Ton Horm, in response to a dare by Tack, dressed up as a Thai folk dancer, complete with hair in a bun and white face paint, to say sorry for calling it quits with him on Instagram.

In images widely published on the internet, the outspoken DJ crawled across the floor on her knees, while holding a floral arrangement with a lit joss stick on top.

Tack relented, and the two started seeing each other again. However, the union came under new strain days later when a young presenter posted on social media an intimate picture of her getting friendly with Tack at her city condo.

Ton Horm cut off contact with ladies’ man Tack after the image appeared. Tack tried to make amends, to no avail, until last week’s negrito act, when the pair decided to give their relationship another whirl.

"It took me about three days to put the plan together," he said, referring to his decision to surprise Ton Horm at work.

In the image, Ton Horm, who has come out to meet the black-clad Tack, looks stunned, but manages a laugh.

"It was my time to put on a show to win Ton Horm back, as she had put one on for me," he said, adding they enjoyed bucking convention.

"I'm no longer thinking about seeing girls on the side. Love has come back to me, so why would I want to let it go?" he asked.

Ton Horm said she and Tack were now talking again. Tack had manned up to his transgressions and promised to be good.

"Before, Tack knew the meaning of the word love. Now he knows the importance of taking care of that love," she said. -

Playing it by ear
Pinky, Petch
Actress Savika "Pinky" Chaiyadej and a millionaire Pattaya property developer and film-maker, Itthi "Petch" Chavalittamrong, have declared they will marry next month.

Announcing their plans to tie the knot in Pattaya on Sept 12, the couple told reporters they had known each other for three years, and recently returned from a romantic trip to Japan.

Petch is 10 years her senior, with a child from a previous union, but the couple say the past is no obstacle.

Pinky, who has struggled to live down her fling two years ago with the businessman husband of TV presenter and producer Tanyaret "Tanya" Engtrakul, said she and Petch had decided to share their journey together.

"We understand each other. I’m okay with it. We have good feelings for each other," she said.

An awkward looking Petch said the amount of time they had known each other was not important. "It’s about whether two people understand each other, want to share their lives together, and have points of view which are not too different," he said.

Pinky denied reports she intended to "phase" herself out of the industry once she is married, saying she would take it as it comes. The two have no immediate plans for a family, and would let nature take its course.
