NO LEWD DANCES HERE, POLITICAL FREEZE FRAME, FLINGS FACE OFF

Baitoey
Sexy singer Suteewan ''Baitoey'' Thaveesin denies she accepts money from men to perform lewd dances on stage, insisting she’s made of better stuff than that.

Baitoey’s critics on Facebook, who have set up their own anti-Baitoey club, have posted a clip of Baitoey being accosted by a young man while she is performing at a pub.

The man, whose back is to the camera, whispers something in her ear, and stuffs what appears to be moneyinto the right leg of her sexy shorts. Baitoey looks shocked, but does not attempt to push him away. One of her handlers finally escorts the man off stage.

While the scene might look like a typical nightclub encounter, Baitoey is anxious to dispel the idea that hersexy dance routines and skimpy gear invite such trouble.
She said her male admirer was in fact gay, and known to her.

‘‘I was performing at a gay pub called G-Star. The man who jumped on stage is gay, and a relative of my mother’s,’’ she said.

‘‘When he whispered in my ear, he was merely requesting a song,’’ she added.

Baitoey said her job is simply to entertain. ‘‘I perform to help my family. While some customers might take things too far, I am there to give people a good time, and just have to carry on,’’ she said.

Netizens are unimpressed, insisting the man looks more straight than gay. ‘‘There’s no way a gay man, still less a relative, would touch a woman like that,’’ they sniffed.

At the anti-government ASTV-Manager website, critics were quick to bring up Baitoey’s links to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who has invited the singer to perform overseas for him on two occasions.

In November, unkind netizens posted a blurry photograph in which self-exiled Thaksin is walking hand-in-hand with a young woman, and asked if his companion was Baitoey.

The singer, who goes out with Pattanapol ‘‘DJ Man’’ Kunchorn Na Ayutthaya, denied it. She said she found the claims so upsetting she wanted to leave the industry.

One netizen said while the pub clip might look damaging to Baitoey, the publicity over her supposedly romantic ties to Thaksin - "the man who sells out his country’’ - was worse.

Thaksin and admirer
‘‘So, things are looking up!’’ he joked.

Meanwhile, neitzens are speculating over the identity of a woman who has popped up in a new picture of Thaksin.

The two are eating together in a smart restaurant. Netizens say the young woman looks like a former singerfrom the Thai all-girl band, Cinderella.

‘‘She now works in the industry as a presenter, and recently admitted she had breast enhancement surgery,’’ the Manager/ASTV website said, without naming her. The Thaksin camp has not commented on the woman’s identity. -

Chuvit, Tong
Maverick MP Chuvit Kamolvisit and his family have spoken out after he was accused of staging a punch-up as he went to vote in last Sunday’s troubled election.

Chuvit was assaulted by a man in his 20s as he was walking to vote in soi Ratchadapisek, Din Daeng.

Members of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee were out in force, trying to dissuade Thais from going to the polls. Mr Chuvit had earlier told the media where and when he intended to vote.

News footage shows Mr Chuvit being thrown to the ground. He and his helpers managed to shake off the assailant and chase him down the road in a scuffle lasting about 20 seconds.

However, Mr Chuvit was unable to cast his vote, as protest action in the area forced his polling station to close.

Reports say Mr Chuvit’s helpers were able to catch the man who attacked him. They escorted him to a motorbike without further incident. Despite sustaining minor injuries, Mr Chuvit declined to lay a police complaint.

Many netizens believe the scuffle was set up to draw publicity to Mr Chuvit, who has criticised the protesters and the Democrat Party for boycotting the election.

Among the sceptics is director Banjong "Tong’’ Pisanthanakun (ShutterPee Mak), who left a joke on Twitter at Mr Chuvit’s expense.

‘‘If you wanted to make a comedy movie, why didn’t you hire me to direct it?’’ he asked, referring to the videoclip.

One of Mr Chuvit’s sons, Tontrakul, who was accompanying his father that day, took to social media to defend his Dad.

‘‘If this had happened to your own family, how would you feel?’’ he said.

‘‘We released his assailant because a politician can’t be seen doing harm to a member of the public. Or would you rather we had beaten him to death?’’

Responding to director Banjong’s taunt, he wrote: "Have you been making too many movies? Perhaps you can no longer distinguish fact from fiction any more.’’

Critics also asked if a man spotted in the clip calmly taking pictures of Mr Chuvit was in fact Tontrakul.

‘‘What are you thinking, that I’d just stand there photographing my dad while he was being attacked?’’ he retorted.

"At the time of the scuffle I was being beaten up by another one of those men. Ask anyone in the area, they’ll back me up.’’

Another son, Temtrakul, chimed in on social media, saying he too was accused of taking pictures at the scene, when he was actually studying in the US.

Meanwhile, daughter Trakanta said she had inspected the clip and noticed the man taking the pictures was wearing a shirt with no collar.

"By contrast, my older brother Tontrakul is wearing Polo with a white collar,’’ she said.

Writing on Facebook, Mr Chuvit said far worse was happening in Din Daeng that day, and he didn’t see the need to complain.

‘‘Elsewhere the protesters had surrounded the district, closed the roads, seized ballot papers, shot guns, thrown bombs…what’s a mere push and shove and punch-up?’’ he said, referring to his scuffle.
May
Meanwhile, world No 3 badminton champion Ratchanok ''May'' Intanon is also defending her decision to go to the polls, after protesters attacked her for setting a bad example.

News images showed May proudly casting a ballot at her polling station in Bang Kae, Bangkok.

"As a badminton player, I do my duty to the nation and my family. I have never meddled with politics, and do not take sides with anyone. I merely wanted to exercise my right to vote, as it’s the first time that I am old enough to cast one,’’ she said.

"If you don’t want to follow my career as a result of my decision, I won’t be upset,’’ she added.-

Kaew, Pong, Si
Two former flings of notorious Romeo, actor Nawat "Pong'' Kulrattanarak, came face to face at the same fashion event, but quickly realised they have no reason to bicker over a man neither wants to see again.

Sasi "Si’’ Sintawee, 18, and singer and actress Jarinya "Kaew'' Sirimongkolsakul, 21, shared the catwalk at a city function late last week.

Far from refusing to make eye contact, as many reporters thought they would, the two agreed to be photographed together, and at the suggestion of her manager, Si even lent Kaew her shoes to wear.

"We did not talk about Pong, because both of us just wish the story would go away,’’ Si said later.

Si and Pong’s brief dalliance ended unhappily late last year when she criticised him for ungentlemanly conduct.

Netizens had accused Si of trying to break up his relationship with Kaew, who had dissolved in tears a month before as she admitted she and Pong were no longer in regular contact.

Si said she met Pong, 35, in November. He had insisted his relationship with Kaew was over. In his remarks to the media after the Si encounter went public, however, Pong insisted he wasn’t talking to anyone new.

He and Kaew were still together, he said, though the relationship was strained.

Asked last week whether anything had improved, Si said her relationship with Pong was over. She was now talking to a Channel 7 leading actor, with an ever bigger name than Pong’s. She would not reveal his identity.

"’I was nervous at first when I realised I would have to share the runway with Kaew, but both of us were able to get through it,’’ she said.

As for Kaew, she admits she still talks to Pong on the internet, but they are now just friends. "I hold out no hope of the relationship starting up again,’’ she said.
