FILM’S BIG PAY, JANIE WANTS A BABY, TONO TEASES, JASON SPEAKS OUT

Film
Netizens are taking a dim view of superstar Rattapoom ''Film'' Tokongsub’s boast that he earns 180,000 baht an hour for work in the industry.

Film made the disclosure while denying claims on social media that he failed to show for a mini-concert in Japan, disappointing fans who paid to see him there.

Writing on social media, a fan last week claimed she paid 30,000 baht to watch Film and country music singer, Apaporn ''Hai'' Nakonsawan perform.

Film confirmed he went to Osaka, but it was merely to pay a favour to a friend, who asked him to show up at her restaurant to greet local Thais.

Apaporn had bought a tour package from his tour company and the two of them went to Japan with her family.  Film said he happened to know a tour guide in Osaka whose elder sister runs a restaurant. She invited the pair to pay a visit, not to perform.

''It’s just a misunderstanding, or perhaps it’s someone with ill-will spreading stories,'' Film said.

''I did not go there for work, though I did sing a few songs. If someone paid to watch me perform, I would like to know the details, because it had nothing to do with me.''

Film said he would not take on performing work for such a small sum, as his hourly rate was 180,000 baht.

Responding to his news, helpful netizens at the anti-government ASTV-Manager website have made some quick calculations and worked out how much Film must owe the taxman.

''Even if Film worked just one hour a day, for 15 days a month, he would stand to earn 2.7 million baht a month, or 32.4 million baht a year,'' one wrote.

''If he was an ordinary citizen, he would be paying 11 million baht in tax a year. If he was paying through a company, then after deducting expenses he might pay 5 million baht in tax a year.

''Thanks for helping out the country so much,'' he wrote, in a sarcastic reference to Film. ''By the way, if I could bother the tax department, could you confirm the figures? We should also make sure we praise those who are willing to give up so much tax for the sake of the nation.''

Another wrote that film would be better off donating his handsome income to the People’s Democratic Reform Committee protest cause.

''Plenty of stars turn up for nothing on the protest stage to save the country and overthrow the government. Where’s Film?’' he wrote.-

Janie, Ae
Actress Janie Tienphosuwan is planning to start a family with her businessman husband, Chonsawat ''Ae'' Asavahame at the end of the year.

''I’ve reached this age now and would like to make a start. I am worried that if I leave it much longer my body and health might not be up to it,'' Janie, 32, said.

''I’ve started preparing myself by taking vitamins, but I need to do more work on my body to get my fitness up,'' she said. ''I will take a year off from making lakorns, and that will pass in a hurry. Who knows if I’ll be fit enough in time?'' she added.

Pregnancy rumours have dogged the Channel 3 actress since she and Ae announced their lightning marriage in July last year.

On the day they registered their union, Ae, son of fugitive former deputy interior minister Vatana and a big wheel in the family’s native Samut Prakan province, held up a medical certificate to prove that Janie was marrying him out of love, not because he had made her pregnant before marriage.

In November, when Janie was pictured at the airport looking larger than usual, again she came out to deny she was pregnant.

It was just a trick of the light, she said, quickly publishing slimline images of herself working out at home with Ae.

Now, Janie says the time is right to finally open a ''nursery'', as the Thai media put it.

She didn’t say if she intends stopping at a family of one or if her husband, who has a teenage daughter by a previous marriage, had given her the hurry-up.-

Tono
Actor Pakin ''Tono'' Kumvilaisak is keeping his fans guessing as to whether he and his girlfriend, activist actress Pattarida ''Tangmo'' Patcharaweerapong really did get engaged in a marriage-like ceremony in December.

The pair weathered a storm of criticism after they were engaged at short notice at a city photographic studio done up to look like a church.

The couple told barely a soul about their plans, and they have yet to appear as a couple to discuss their big day.

The Dec 11 ceremony bore many of the hallmarks of an actual marriage, with Tangmo wearing a bridal dress, and throwing a bouquet of flowers at the guests.

The couple, who released a commercial video of the event, also exchanged vows in front of a priest, as Tono declared he was switching from Buddhism to Christianity, to bring his faith in line with that of Tangmo.

In the days following, Tangmo insisted the pair were engaged, not married. However, last week, in Tono’s first outing since the ceremony, he declined to confirm that the couple even went that far.

''Wait until we are both together and then ask,'' he suggested, repeatedly declining to say whether they were engaged or married.

Tono and Tangmo, both regulars on the anti-government protest stage, have struggled to gain fanclub acceptance of their union since they started dating six months ago.

Despite the fuss, both have had tattoo work done to help seal their love. Tangmo has also claimed she would happily die for Tono if given the chance.

Explaining his reluctance to comment, Tono said many things were going on in his life, and the status of his relationship with Tangmo was not prominent among them.

''I would rather clear the other matters up first, though I am still happy,'' he insisted.-

Jason
Actor Jason Young says he never meant to stay in the monkhood for life and when he left last month he had simply decided enough was enough.

''I never said I’d be in the monkhood forever or that I would never quit,'' he said last week, in his first public comments since leaving the saffron robes behind.

''At the time I entered the monkhood they issued a standard announcement which said I was taken with the religion and wanted to serve the monkhood to pass on the word.''

Jason was spotted applying for a driver’s licence at the Provincial Land Transport Office in Pran Buri district, Prachuap Khiri Khan, last month, when he was spotted by a fan. It was the first time many of his fans knew he was now back in civilian life.

Contacted by reporters, his former fiancee, Darika Chokota, said she had not heard from Jason.

She was surprised to hear he had left the monkhood – just as his decision to forsake their month-long engagement to don the saffron robes in July 2012 also came as a shock.

Jason insisted one year and nine months was actually quite a long time to serve the cause.

''When I first took the robes I intended to make merit to my parents, who are now dead, for nine months.

''However, when the nine months were up I decided to stay on. I left when I felt I had had enough,'' he said, adding he was living upcountry temporarily as he prepares to relaunch himself into civilian life.

Jason and Darika announced their engagement in Bangkok in late March 2012, and had planned to marry by the end of that year.

However, after a month in saffron robes, Jason decided he wanted to pursue religion as his life's calling, according to reports at the time, and asked Darika if he could call off the engagement.

Speaking at the time,  Darika denied she felt upset about Jason’s abrupt decision to end their engagement.

''I was surprised when he told me. But when I recovered my composure, I realised this was an opportunity to make merit.''

Jason confirmed Darika was among his many well wishers who joined in making merit on the occasion. They parted on good terms, and had now gone their separate ways.
