LOSO VOTED DOWN, NO-SCORE FORWARD, FOOT FANCY FURORE

Anti-Sek protester
Rocker Sek Loso and his wife have backed down after launching a tirade against protesters who forced the cancellation of his concert in Phuket.

As the so-called Bangkok Shutdown nears, Sek and his wife Wiphakorn ''Kan'' Sukpimai insist they did not mean to take sides in the political row.

The pair lashed out after hundreds of anti-government protesters forced the cancellation of his appearance at the Phuket Red Cross concert late last month.

They were angry after Sek left a strongly-worded post on Facebook in which he said he intended voting in the Feb 2 election, which the protesters want postponed.

Sek lamented the fact that in previous election campaigns, he joined other celebrities in urging the public to go out and vote. Now, his efforts were being maligned.

''Today, I posted that I will go to the election, and you scolded me. What happened to you, are you even conscious?'' he wrote.

''Is it possible for someone to think differently? Do you know that you are mad? Are you Thai? I want to kick your neck.''

Media reports ran pictures of protesters holding signs referring to Sek's past as a drug addict, and telling him he wasn't wanted. Sek did not appear, but stayed in his hotel.

The province's governor appeared on stage mid-evening to announce Sek's appearance had been cancelled.

A day later, Sek left what appeared to be a conciliatory message: ''The governor asked for my cooperation in deferring the concert. I wasn't trying to score points off anyone, just to make people happy.

''Senior politicians should know how to yield and forgive each other.''

His wife, however, gloated that Sek and the band were busy kicking back during the protest.

''You declare victory, but is this all you want?'' Kan wrote testily on Facebook.

''We're sitting here having a grand old time breaking open the alcohol. We've received our performance fee, but don't have to play. We can go out and have a good time.

''We feel sorriest for Sek's fans, as they will be disappointed. You lot are just bad news. You want to ruin everything, go ahead. You're all mad!''

On the internet, critics said Kan's comments made her husband look bad.

By the next day, Kan had backtracked.

''We aren't taking anyone's side. Those who fail to exercise discretion when taking in the news and who try to pressure us into joining their cause lead to constant misunderstandings,'' she said.

''I was singling out one person in particular, who maligned our work. I'm not trying to make myself look better, just helping you understand!''

For his part, a subdued Sek thanked his fans for their support.

''I still love my fanclub, no matter which province they're in. Politics in our land are still restive. We perform where we can and postpone it when we cannot.'' -

Kaem, Noom
Model Kawintra ''Kaem'' Photijak says female admirers of her handsome footballer boyfriend still give her trouble, but he doesn't mind her attempts to keep them at bay.

''After football matches it's common for fans to ask him to pose for photographs,'' she said, referring to her childhood sweetheart, Rachat ''Noom'' Chaijan, who plays as a forward for Pattaya United.

''However, some of them also try to slip him their number,'' she said.

''I call out 'Khun!' to him to let him know I saw it. He says 'Krap!' and walks away, which is good, as it means he is still showing me respect.''

Kaem, who complained publicly a few months ago after fans started rubbing their breasts against his body, said she is now encountering even bolder types who will contact her boyfriend on social media, then leave her a message to rub her nose in it.

''One fan left her number at Rachat's Facebook page. He came to tell me about it. I replied, 'Krap.' But then she left a message on my Facebook page to say she had contacted him, just to make me jealous,'' she said.

The 2008 Miss Thailand Universe winner said Rachat was once a serial flirt, but she still trusts him.

''No sooner does one nuisance fan stop chasing him than another pops up,'' she said. ''But I'm lucky in that he doesn't fly off the handle.

''I tell him that while he was once in a position to choose, he can't any longer, as we have chosen each other.

''He offers me his phone to inspect. I don't bother, but he knows he can always rely on me to speak directly,'' she said. -

Amie, Howard
Model Omsawan ''Amie'' Sirikittirat says fans who criticise her boyfriend's decision to kiss her foot do not understand real love.

She published an image on social media last week of her tearaway boyfriend, Taiwanese-born model and singer Howard Wang, kissing her foot in a gesture of commitment.

''He climbed down on his knees and kissed my foot as he promised he would love me and me alone,'' she wrote on Facebook about their New Year encounter in Malaysia, where she went to visit him.

''It was such a surprise, I cried. I'm not pretty, I don't wear any crown. But I have a handsome boyfriend who loves me,'' she said.

While Amie said the moment brought her to tears, critics rounded on her for showing disrespect to Thai culture. Some Thais regard the feet as a low object, as they are close to the ground.

Amie said Howard had forgiven her for her role in having him deported from Thailand.

Howard was deported for the first time in March last year after a string of assault and drug offences. However, he re-entered the Kingdom under an assumed name last April to give Amie a birthday present, which he delivered by breaking into her house.

Amie, who was unhappy with him at the time, filed a police complaint over the break-in, which tipped off police to his presence. They arrested him for overstaying and he was deported a second time, to the distress of his mother, who lives in Thailand and has yet to forgive Amie for her role in the affair.

Amie said Howard has now promised to marry her, and is saving for a ring.

''I asked him when he would marry me. He said five years. I said we're already two years in. He said, three years in that case. I said if he was still not ready then I would marry someone else. He said OK.

''He has work now, and is busy saving for a ring. I'm giving him 80% of me, and making him work for the rest.''

She had asked Howard how they could marry, if his mother still opposes their union.

''He told me not to talk about it, as he gets too upset. I'll just have to prove to her how much I love her son,'' Amie said.

The picture she published shows a bare-chested, tattoo-clad Howard kissing her toes. After fans rounded on her for being indecent, Amie published a picture of herself in tears.

''I pray at his feet before bed in a similar way. In love, nothing is too strong or goes too far, if you have to accept something which has happened.

''Our culture may not support it, but we respect each other,'' she insisted.
