PATONG PARTY WIN, SMARTPHONE LIAISON, STICKS AND STONES

Chai
Promoter Anandadvip ''Chai'' Jayankura na Ayuthaya has won an early victory against a socialite businessman in a row over a failed New Year's concert last year in Phuket.

The Civil Court in Bangkok last week awarded Chai damages of 1,738,000 baht, plus interest, in his dispute with Jirat ''Champ'' Petnunthawong, organiser of the Sydictive Element New Year party on Patong beach late last year.

Chai laid a complaint with the Crime Suppression Division against Champ on March 5, claiming the concert was poorly organised and damaged his reputation as a promoter.

Chai said publicity for the concert promised top DJs and performers such as Akon, JFK of Mstkrft, Tiga and Pendulum, performing on the world's largest floating stage.

However, the concert failed to live up to expectations after Akon pulled out citing a contract dispute, and VIP guests complained of less than deluxe treatment.

Champ is head of a power company, owns a nightclub in Chiang Mai and runs a company organising the music festivals.

Welcoming the court's judgement, Chai said the decision ends a year of tension and uncertainty. ''The dispute kept clients away, and everywhere I went, people would ask what happened,'' he said.

Champ, who has a criminal defamation suit pending against Chai over the dispute, responded icily.

''I feel sorry for the liars. They die with the words from their own mouths. You'd be better putting aside the money for your bail,'' he wrote.

Chai, meanwhile, appeared in court earlier this month in another dispute involving Champ's family.

He gave evidence in a defamation suit brought by his friend, actress and model Panita ''Ning'' Tumwattana, against Champ's younger sister and mother over a fight in a city eatery.

Ning and her sister Nan are suing Chai's younger sister Namwan and her mother Ampaipan, after the socialite and her mother accused them of starting a fight in a Thong Lor restaurant in September.

They say the pair attacked Namwan at Harvey restaurant, in Thong Lor Soi 9 in Wattana district, on Sept 20.

The socialite's complaint said Nan struck her in the face with a mobile phone, leaving her with eye injuries. Nan denies it, and insists Namwan hit her first.

Chai, who was present during the encounter, said the row started after he asked Namwan to pay back a loan.

The row has bitter-sweet undertones for Ning, after her husband Jin offered a public apology this year for having an affair with Namwan.

The hearing about the fight at Harveys took three hours. The court has asked Namwan to present her side on Jan 11. -

Pong, Si
A little-known model has criticised a notorious Romeo, actor Nawat ''Pong'' Kulrattanarak, of ungentlemanly conduct.

Sasi ''Si'' Sintawee, 18, says her reputation is under attack after netizens accused her of trying to break up Pong's relationship with his girlfriend, singer and actress Jarinya ''Kaew'' Sirimongkolsakul.

Si and Pong met about a month ago. Si said Pong approached her, not the other way around, and told her that his relationship with Kaew had ended.

However, Pong insists he is not talking to anyone new.

Speaking to the media last week after his interest in Si went public, Pong said he and Kaew were still an item.

Si, who said she never considered dating the actor despite his attempts to flirt with her, is unimpressed. He said the pair are still exchanging messages on the Line smartphone app.

''I like men who are man enough to take responsibility and admit when they have done something wrong,'' she said, referring to Pong.

Pong, 35, admits he has not spoken to Kaew in weeks, though denies it is because he has left her for Si.

''Whenever we talk, we argue, so I have avoided calling to give us time to settle down,'' he said.

Earlier, Si said she was out dining about a month ago when Pong sent a friend over to her table to ask for her number.

''He told me he admired my figure, and asked for my Line ID,'' she said.

''I recognised him and asked if his girlfriend knew he was talking to me. He replied, 'We broke up a month ago. Don't you read the news?''

She regarded Pong simply as an older friend, especially given the age gap.

She denied trying to wrest Pong away from Kaew, 21, or latching on to the actor to promote her fledgling career.

''I've gone out with men more famous than Pong. If I really wanted to promote myself, wouldn't I be better off sticking with them?'' she asked.

''The reaction on social media is savage, with critics calling me brazen, promiscuous and a prostitute.

Kaew
''But how could I be a third hand, when Pong and I are not an item, and I have never considered dating him?''

Pong, meanwhile, insists Kaew is still the woman for him, despite their recent problems.

''It looks as if we have split up, but really I still love her,'' he said awkwardly.

Kaew was the first girl he had dated openly since entering the industry 10 years ago.

''It's not like switching a light on and off. If I said we've stopped seeing each other, and next week we made up again, it would look too much like a poor soap opera,'' he said.

Kaew, who broke down in tears early this month when she discussed her difficulties with Pong, has yet to comment on his ties with Si. -

Tangmo

Janie
Two actresses are unhappy with end-of-year nicknames bestowed on them by entertainment reporters.

Janie Tienphosuwan and Pattarida ''Tangmo'' Patcharaweerapong are among 10 entertainers given playful nicknames marking their contribution to the industry over the past year.

The Entertainment News Reporters Association, which polled its members for the nicknames, called Tangmo ''Sharp tongue, without a muzzle''. Her actor boyfriend, Pakin ''Tono'' Kumvilaisak, is ''The one who scoured the skies for a mate''.

Janie, who married millionaire husband, businessman Chonsawat ''Ae'' Asavahame, in August, was given the nickname ''Feigns childish cuteness to grab the chance at marriage registration''.

She says she is unhappy with the nickname, and wants reporters to withdraw it. ''It suggests I wrested Ae away, when it's not true,'' she said.

The couple registered their marriage on Aug 8 at Ae's family pile in Samut Prakan, the same day they announced their pairing to a shocked public.

Janie repeatedly denied she was seeing anyone, despite reports linking her to Ae, son of disgraced former deputy interior minister Vatana Asavahame.

Ae, who has a teenage daughter with his former wife, singer Nantida Kaewbuasai, said he was single when he and Janie started dating.

Tangmo and Tono, meanwhile, heard about their nicknames in Hong Kong, where they are spending their Christmas break.

They are struggling for public acceptance of their union, which they sealed this month with a lightning ceremony in Bangkok.

Tangmo, who fought a war of words on social media with a TV Pool reporter over her shock engagement, responded frostily to her new sobriquet.

''This is proof of what the Entertainment News Reporters Association feel towards Tono and I. Thanks very much,'' she wrote.

Tangmo's father Sophon said the nicknames show the media is willing to bring itself into disrepute.

Mr Patcharaweerapong, a former student activist, has joined his actress daughter and Tono on the protest stage over the past couple of months, calling for political reform.

''In my view, the Thai media needs reform no less than Thai politics,'' he wrote on Instagram.
