ON HIS BIKE, ILL FORTUNE, MOTHER'S APPROVAL, SNAP HAPPY

Sek, mum, sister
Rocker Sek Loso is giving doctors at the Thanyarak Institute in Pathum Thani, where he is being treated for his hard drugs habit, a run for their money.

Media reports early last week claimed Sek had fled the hospital, though the doctor in charge of his case, Angun Pataragorn, the institute's deputy director, denied it.

In a series of videoclips posted on YouTube, Sek and Dr Angun insisted he had never left the grounds of the hospital as alleged.

The clips have now landed the institute's heads in trouble, after Sek's lawyer, Udom Prongfa, told the media they were filmed by the institute's doctors, who sent copies to him.

Visiting Sek at the institute on Friday, Public Health Minister Witthaya Buranasiri said he would look into claims that Sek's doctors had made the clips. If true, that could constitute a breach of medical ethics.

The institute's director, Wirot Wirachai, also appeared in the clips.

While declining to comment in detail on the clips, he agreed the hospital has an obligation to avoid divulging "patient secrets'', which he defined as anything that could make the patient look bad.

Sek appears in the clips in a drugged, drowsy state. His fans left messages on the internet saying they did not appreciate seeing the rocker in such a dilapidated condition.

Rumours that Sek had fled the hospital - flouting its rules, which require him to seek permission first - started when Sek's estranged wife, Wiphakorn "Kan'' Sukpimai, left a message on Facebook saying he returned home on Jan 6.

She said Sek fled the hospital because he missed his children, and was worried about the fate of his finances.

Kan and Sek's family have been fighting in the media, accusing each other of dipping into the musician's accounts while he is in care.

She said Sek, who is worth up to 100 million baht, retrieved a bag of financial documents on Jan 6, and took them back to the hospital with him.

In the clip, Sek performs two songs for his doctors and carers, and donning a funny hat, visits patients in the ward.

Sek is deemed fit enough to take responsibility for himself. As such, he has his own private room, with air-con, TV and a fridge.

He has also been given permission to don casual dress rather than the regulation blue outfits that other patients wear.

Doctors say Sek, however, is still experiencing hallucinations. The institute has decided to extend his treatment another month.

Meanwhile, a man with a mad rush of hair gave the institute's staff a start recently when he was spotted cycling around the grounds.

When guards peered closer, they realised it was star patient Sek.

"At first we didn't know who it was, when we saw the hair flying about, but when he drew closer we realised it was Sek,'' a staff member joked when contacted by Thai Rath newspaper.

"Sek's not supposed to get out like that, but he's a bit naughty,'' he added.

Asked whether doctors and orderlies were panicked when they realised Sek had flown the coop, Thai Rath's source said Sek always comes back.

"He's just going out for a bit of a spin,'' he said.

The Manager newspaper, however, said that after fleeing the building on his bicycle, Sek managed to hail a taxi and, without the hospital's consent, travelled home to see his wife and attend to his finances.

The hospital sent a vehicle to pick him up at his home when staff realised he had fled its care.

Kan started the Sek drugs saga when she publishes pictures of Sek smoking methamphetamines. After Sek admitted taking them, his music label, Grammy Entertainment, cancelled its contract with the veteran rocker.

With his career in freefall, Sek admitted himself for treatment at the institute. Earlier, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board gave Sek a week to enter rehab or face the prospect of a six month jail term. -

Pae, Pancake
Fortune-tellers have won a New Year victory after their predictions that a celebrity couple's relationship would hit the rocks came true.

Seers had forecast that A-list actress Kemanij "Pancake'' Jamikorn and her boyfriend, actor and singer Arak "Pae'' Amornsupasiri, would not last, and so it turned out to be last week when they announced their eight-month relationship had ended.

Denying any third pary was involved, Pancake said she was too busy with work and family obligations to give enough time to Pae. "I can't rule us out getting back together, but for the time being I must move forwards,'' she said.

Pae said they talked before New Year about ending their relationship, and both agreed it would be pointless forcing themselves to carry on.

"Before we talked constantly, but in the end we had no time for each other, and drifted apart,'' said Pae.

"At first I was stressed about the break-up. But I have forgotten it all now, and am still smiling,'' he said.

The pair had parted friends, and could still work with each other if the occasion arose, he said.

In other pessimistic forecasts for the year ahead, fortune-tellers have predicted A-list star Patcharapa "Aum'' Chaichuea will lose her star appeal; actor Chakrit Yamnarm and VJ Wirithipa "Woonsen'' Pakdeeprasong will postpone their marriage plans; and actress Cherman "Ploy'' Boonyasak and her boyfriend Navin "Tar'' Yavapolkul will break up. -

Dome
Actor and DJ Pakorn "Dome'' Lum is breathing a sigh of relief after his mother - who earlier criticised his decision to start seeing a 19-year-old girl - has now given the relationship her stamp of approval.

Dome took his mother to meet his girlfriend, TV presenter and actress Jirantanin "Kusjung'' Pitakporntrakul, over New Year. The two families visited the Khao Yai resort area, where Dome's mother Ratanaporn "Mam'' Koopirom was able to meet Kasjung for the first time.

When news of the relationship surfaced last month, Mrs Koopirom said neither Dome nor Kasjung should rush into declaring themselves a romantic item.

"I don't know how the girl's parents feel, but I imagine they are keen for the pair to get to know each other first. It's too early for the girlfriend phase, as she's just 19,'' she said.

Dome, a notorious ladies' man, admitted he was going out with Kusjung after pictures of the pair shopping and at a seaside outing appeared in the media.

Mrs Koopirom said she was worried about her son's romantic entanglements, as she wanted him to meet someone who was compatible in terms of career, age and social standing.

Dome said last week that now the two have had a chance to meet, however, his mother can see Kasjung has merit as a girlfriend and given her blessing to the relationship.

"My mother, who is a relaxed and informal person, was impressed by Kasjung's openness. She looked into Kasjung's eyes, saw how open she was, and said she was worth dating,'' Dome said.

Dome has bought Kasjung a ring as a New Year's present, the first gift he has bought for her her.

She likes it, and wears it all the time. However, it's not an engagement ring.

"If I'd bought her a ring as simple as that for an engagement ring, she'd have a go at me,'' he joked. -

Kratip
Kratip Chawankorn can thank an alert Channel 7 actor for letting her know when a man started taking surreptitious pictures of her underwear.

Channel 7 actors, including Kratip, were handing out signed copies of the station's calendar at Hua Lampong railway station last week when a man slipped his mobile phone under her skirt and started snapping.

Actor Patinya "Amm'' Wirotsaengprathip called out and alerted the function organisers, who in turn alerted police.

Pisarn
The men in grey cornered the suspect in the toilets, where Siam Dara gossip rag says a tussle ensued. Police finally emerged with their man, a Ranong native identified as Pisan Boonthong, 30.

Actress Chatchadaporn "Tai'' Thananta was able to help police identify the man, as she took a picture of the suspect on her mobile phone.

Police say they could find no pictures of Krathip on Mr Pisarn's phone.

At first he denied doing anything wrong, but after more strenuous questioning admitted taking the furtive pictures, and deleting them while police cornered him in the toilets.

Krathip is shrugging off the affair, saying that she intends pressing no charges.

Police say they will take action against the man regardless.
