SEK'S GRAMMY WHAMMY, PINGPONG BOUNCES BACK, A THAW IN RELATIONS

Kris
Rocker Sek Loso's admission that he takes drugs has cost him his contract with Grammy Entertainment.

Executive vice-president of Grammy's music business division Kris Thomas scrapped the entertainment giant's contract with Sek on Tuesday, one day after the rocker admitted he takes drugs.

"Our rules are clear: we don't tolerate artists who take drugs. We have adhered to the same rules for almost 30 years. Our artists know if they are found with evidence that they take drugs, it's all over,'' he said.

"What happens next is between him and the Narcotics Control Board,'' he said.

Grammy cancelled plans to promote Sek's latest single, an upcoming album, and his concerts.

"We won't release any more of his CDs, and will ask his fans to give away those of Sek's which they have bought,'' he said.

Sek is one of Grammy's key properties and has signed with the company for the past 16 years. His latest contract, which Mr Thomas overturned on Tuesday, still had three years to run.

Sek had called the media to his Sai Mai home the day before to answer claims that he takes drugs, and had mistreated his wife.

Sek's estranged wife, Wiphakorn "Kan'' Sukpimai kicked off the saga when she posted pictures on Facebook of someone resembling Sek appearing to smoke methamphetamines.

Kan accused Sek of throwing herself and their three children out of their home, breaching the terms of a separation agreement, mistreating her physically and mentally and smoking drugs in front of the children. She said Sek's drug-taking behaviour has made him paranoid.

Sek told the media gathering he takes drugs because they help inspire his creativity as an artist.

"I can control my drug taking, but I don't want to encourage young people to emulate me,'' he said.

His former wife took the pictures of him taking drugs on a visit to Prague.

He did not think she would do such a thing, but was man enough to admit the man in the picture was indeed him.

He had notified the police after a drugs agency contacted Grammy to ask for clarification.

"I am willing to do whatever they ask, but probably won't volunteer to be an anti-drugs presenter, as I still smoke tobacco and drink alcohol,'' he said.

Asked about his former wife's claims that he had beaten her up, Sek admitted it was true.

"I don't want to say much, except that one day she attacked me with broken glass,'' he said.

Sek has insisted he is in a relationship with model Prangchat "Pan'' Phipatwirawat, 22, even though she and her mother have denied it.

Sek, Pan
In a Facebook message two days before, Sek urged Pan to come clean about their relationship and threatened to release pictures of him and Pan in bed if she did not.

He also advised her mother to stop spreading false tales about him or "I won't invite her to eat sukiyakiat my place any more''.

Sek said that while Grammy had turned him into a big name, he had also made the company a fortune. He believed his phone was being tapped and the company had sent spies to keep an eye on him.

"I'm a wild guy. I pulled out a gun, and fired it three times as a warning when I thought I was being followed,'' he said.

"I want Grammy to send someone to apologise, or we will have nothing more to say to each other.''

The same day, Sek posted a Facebook message saying that if Thai society could not accept him, he would move to London, which he regards as his second home.

Mr Thomas denied Grammy had engaged in covert activity to keep Sek's behaviour in check.

An artist himself with 30 years experience in the industry, he also dismissed Sek's claims that creative types have to take drugs to find inspiration. "We have warned him about drugs before, but we lacked conclusive evidence he was taking them.''

He said that while the Sek saga would cost Grammy millions of baht, the company was not angry with Sek.

"We believe someone in his condition deserves sympathy. It would be a shame if someone's life should end this way. We don't want to add to his misery.

"If he was to call us, we'd offer him one word of advice: Clean yourself up,'' he said. -

Pingpong
Actress Sakaewan "Pingpong'' Yongjaiyuth has emerged from a horrific car crash to say she is on the mend, and hopes the industry won't forget her while she recovers.

Pingpong was a passenger in a Toyota Wish which was involved in a collision with a pickup truck in Chon Buri on Dec 16.

The accident left the drivers of Pingpong's car and the pickup truck dead.

Pingpong sustained broken ribs, a punctured lung, crushed pelvis, damage to internal organs and a broken arm and leg. Doctors have operated on her and she is now recovering at a private hospital in the province.

Pingpong had left the set of her soap opera to buy a birthday present for a child actor. The owner of the house in which they were filming lent her the car, and a driver.

Friends say she can remember little about the accident, and was sorry to hear two people had died.

However, she was most concerned about the two soap operas she was acting in.

"She would like to tell directors out there not to forget her because she will need many months to recover,'' her friend told the Rak Dara gossip website.

Pingpong was relieved to find she had survived the accident, as she was sure when the accident occurred she would end up dead. -

Ice, Art
VJ Pilasinee "Ice'' Pichaikulworasiri insists she and actor Phasut "Art'' Banyaem were once an item, even if he now claims he can't remember it.

Earlier, Art said he had no recollection of going out with Ice, despite her claim the two have been seeing each other for two years.

Art said he was astounded to read remarks in the media by Ice, who claimed the two were going steady until a month ago, when she discovered Art was going out with someone else.

Art said he has a girlfriend, but it's not Ice. He declared two years ago that he and actress Patcharin "Fon'' Jadkrabuanpol were seeing each other, and insists he has been faithful.

"As for Ice, I suppose we might have met, but we have never gone out,'' he said.

Ice, however, said Art's memory must be failing if he can't remember her. Gossip Star magazine published pictures of what it said was the pair dining at a restaurant, and walking in a department store together.

"We ate in restaurants, went to the movies,'' she said. "We also appeared on a TV show together, and were linked in the media at the time.''

Ice said she met Art through a VJ friend. They swapped BlackBerry PINs, and Art sent her messages asking what she was doing, and whether she was with other men. "He behaved as many young men do when they are flirting.'' Ice said she had once asked Art about his supposed girlfriend, Fon.

"He told me his industry bosses asked the two to get together for the sake of appearances. They weren't really in a relationship, but merely worked together,'' she said. "If he really thinks we never went out and there are no photographs to jog his memory, all I can say is, 'Good luck.' "
