STANDING UP FOR MYSELF, I'M NOT A DIRTY DOG, SIMPLY SAYING HELLO

Marsha
Singer Marsha Vadhanapanich says it is better to own up to an embarrassing indiscretion than succumb to blackmail.

Stoic Marsha last week laid a complaint with police alleging blackmail against her former producer, Frenchman Cyril Rouhani.

The former Grammy singer claims he demanded millions of baht to prevent the release of embarrassing pictures of the pair, but she refused to comply.

The images were leaked to the media two weeks ago.

Marsha, 40, appears in the images bare-breasted; seated with her legs apart, and knickers exposed; smoking; and wearing the slimmest of bikini briefs. She shares passionate kisses with Cyril, whom she met last year.

After initially declining comment, the veteran singing star went before reporters a week ago to admit the woman in the pictures was indeed her.

She agreed the images were embarrassing, but believed it was better to come forward with the truth than succumb to blackmail.

Marsha said Cyril - whom she will not name publicly - sent her the images by email about two months ago, demanding money with menaces.

"He started off demanding 20 million baht, which he reduced to 10 million baht, then eight million, and finally two million baht,'' she said on a television show last week.

"He threatened me constantly, and warned me to be careful as he could take my life,'' Marsha said.

She decided to reject the demands, as she knew he'd only ask for more if she agreed.

"You didn't see me shed any tears when I went before the media. Of course I'm embarrassed, as any woman would be. But I'm willing to admit the truth, to spare other potential victims from the same fate,'' she said.

She has asked the Crime Suppression Division's Technology Division (CSDT) to find the source of the images. Media outlets have been asked not to reproduce them.

Pol Col Somporn Daengdi, of the CSDT, said investigators had tracked the source of the threats to an overseas email address. Police would ask their counterparts abroad for help in tracking down the suspect.

Marsha admits she should have checked Cyril's credentials before letting him into her life.

"When we met, he said he was about to head back to France, as he had run into trouble in Thailand. He said he was a big-time producer known over Europe, with money saved abroad.

"At the time I was in need of an investor, so asked if he'd like to work with me.

"He claimed to own a home here, there [in France] and have investment funds abroad. The money which he promised to invest was always about to arrive, but never did.

"He was always in trouble with money, and I started to have doubts when he asked me for loans.''

She was shocked when she found references to him on the internet that suggested Cyril was a man with a past. On her lawyer's advice, she started to extract herself from the relationship.

"He told me, my lawyer and manager different stories. I can't understand why he felt the need to constantly deceive.''

Marsha's lawyer, Boonanan Piemphongsan, said the suspect liked to claim that Thais did not understand how international finance worked.

"He showed us websites that he said proved he had funds abroad. He exploited his identity as a foreigner to deceive Thais,'' he said.

Marsha said the pair were close, though the accused did not attain the status of boyfriend.

"I was careless with the pictures. Some of them come from a party, or were taken on my mobile phone, which went missing.

"But I don't know when he took the others. He always had a camera with him,'' she said.

"I can't understand how he's still able to walk around fancy free,'' she said.

"If he was a real man, he'd confront me face to face, not conduct a furtive, underground campaign like this one.''

Internet searches turn up a Cyril Rouhani who is allegedly wanted on arrest warrants for fraud in the US and Thailand.

A website, "Cyril Rouhani - Catch the Con'', asks alleged victims to come forward with details of his exploits.

Marsha's lawyer said he had heard from contacts who knew the suspect.

"He's been visiting Thailand on and off for the last 10 years, claiming he was a foreign investor, and [allegedly] conning money out of people.''

Marsha is already taking legal action against Cyril for extortion.

In May, a representative of Cyril's turned up at the CSD to lay a complaint against Marsha for breach of copyright. Cyril's agent, who claimed she was laying the complaint on behalf of Cyril's label, Sony Music Europe, was suing her for 100 million baht after Marsha refused to stop distribution of her album, Alive.

However, Sony Music denied having any relationship with Cyril, and said it knew nothing about the alleged copyright breach.

Marsha responded by lodging an extortion case against Cyril, and said defamation action was likely to follow.

Since their falling out, Cyril has started a campaign to rehabilitate his reputation on the internet.

He has started half a dozen blogs in which he posts pictures of himself and Marsha working on her album.

He also appears in images entering the monkhood and visiting the Ferrari club, for enthusiasts and fans of the marque. -

Maple lays a complaint
Actress and model Patchuda "Maple'' Panpipat may have posed for sexy pictures in her time, but has never stooped to coyote dancing - and she wants the world to know.

Maple, accompanied by her parents, who live in Nakhon Ratchasima, last week laid a complaint with Crime Suppression Division police after VCDs with pictures of her on the cover went on sale in city markets.

The model says a friend of her sister's found the VCD, and bought a copy. "It's me on the cover, but not inside. It's a video of coyote girls dancing provocatively.

"While I have made some sexy pictures in my time, I have never done this kind of work,'' she sniffed.

The person responsible for the video had used pictures of her on the cover without permission. She wanted police to find the source of the videos, as they infringed her rights and damaged her reputation. Police are investigating.-

Natalie
Actress and model Natalie Chearavanont is putting a brave face on pictures of her love interest kissing a 15-year-old girl.

Natalie, an heiress of the CP Group, says her relationship with socialite and renowned playboy Krerkpol "Fluke'' Masayawanit is still the same, despite a leaked clip of him kissing a teenage girl at a restaurant.

Fluke, Fa
"My relationship with Fluke is on the same footing. When I saw the images [of him kissing the girl] I was unmoved - chill, chill,'' she said.

"When Fluke greets women, he likes to kiss their cheeks. He's done it ever since we met, especially with models and foreigners.

He's also done it with me,'' she said, adding she does not know the teenager, identified as Nong Fa, who appeared in the clip.

"When he's in the news, Fluke usually tells me what has happened. I don't know if he tells me all his stories, but I usually hear enough to know what's going on,'' she said.
