STILL FROSTY, IN A PICKLE, UNHAPPY FAMILIES, PAP PEST

Noom, centre, and friends
Television presenter Kanchai "Noom'' Kamnerdploi is seeking 10 million baht in damages against his half-sister and her husband for allegedly stripping him of his share of the Ice Monster shaved ice confectionery business.

Noom, who helped found the chain of franchise stores serving iced confectionery, and whose name has appeared endorsing the product, said he found himself bounced as a shareholder by his own relatives who help run the company.

The presenter is now taking criminal and civil action against Chanya Chortiyanwong, his half-sister and joint shareholder in the Ice Monster chain of franchise stores, along with her husband, Athip.

The Criminal Court on Tuesday accepted the case, while no decision has yet been made on the civil claim.

Noom, who went before the media to discuss progress in the dispute, said he was seeking 10 million baht in damages for share dividends he had yet to receive, savings he had put into the company, and unpaid endorsement fees.

The company, Ice To Ice, which held Thai rights to the Ice Monster brand under a contract with the parent company from the Philippines, originally had seven shareholders including himself, he said.

He took with him the franchise owner, Chadwick Ragas, of the Philippines, who said his firm's contract with Ice to Ice ran out in March.

Franchise holders trading here under the Ice Monster name no longer had the right to do so, he said. If they persisted, he would consider taking legal action.

Noom said he had met his brother-in-law for talks three times, without making progress. Mr Athip had refused his request to audit the company's books.

The presenter said he had yet to decide whether to carry on looking after franchise holders.

"I feel hurt whenever I hear the name, and that of my brother-in-law. We went into this venture equally, but I have yet to receive any return,'' he said.

"I still love the Ice Monster brand. But the name has taken a beating through this saga, and I will have to consult with family members who still hold shares about what to do next.''

The court has called both sides to hear first witnesses in the case on Sept 1. -

R
Actor/singer Anattapol "R'' Sirichumsaeng has apologised to the boyfriend of sexy actress Panward "Peuy'' Hemmanee, for taking her out for a meal without telling him first.

R said he took Peuy out for a bite to eat recently because he saw she was looking thin. The two were once an item, but R says there is no chance of their relationship rekindling.

The pair was spotted taking their meal together, though R says they were not alone, as they took friends.

The sighting rekindled rumours that Peuy was having problems with her new boyfriend, singer Watthisit "Tem'' Seubsuwann, and that she and old flame R might get back together.

Peuy, Tem
R said it was not so. "I would like to apologise to Tem if the reports of us taking a meal together worried him,'' said R. "We're just friends, and that's all.''

When journalists confronted Peuy late last month with news of the meal sighting, she looked unhappy, and admitted that Tem did not know that she and R had been out for a meal.

Reporters said Peuy quickly brought questions to a close, and retreated to her dressing room.

A persistent reporter from the Daily News newspaper followed her to the dressing room, and again probed her about the status of her relationship with Tem.

Peuy looked startled, the newspaper said. Moments later, the reporter claimed to hear her sobbing in the privacy of nearby toilets.

Peuy has since denied she retreated in tears, or that she was trying to dodge the press. "I am working seven days a week, and was rushing between functions,'' she said.

Tem had since heard about the pair going out for a meal, and had raised no objection.

R, who went before the media after Peuy had said her piece, said a member of his fanclub had sent him a picture of him and Peuy having their meal.

"I called Peuy and asked her what I should tell the press. She told me to tell the truth.

"I didn't dare ask her if she was having relationship problems, as it's none of my business,'' he said.

Peuy, he said, had ordered a Vietnamese pickled sausage dish from his mother, who goes back to his family's home province every week where she is able to buy it.

She brought some of it back to Bangkok for Peuy, and asked R to take it to her.

R said he arranged to meet Peuy after a city concert, when he gave her the sausage, expressed concern about her appearance, and asked her out for the meal.

"In future, I might just have to take her things, then leave. We probably can't go out for meals any more, in case people think too much,'' he said. -

Film, Rabiabrat
The defamation dispute between superstar Rattapoom "Film'' Tokongsub and a family values campaigner who questioned his morals is likely to end in settlement.

Film and family values campaigner Rabiabrat Pongpanit, a former senator, met at the Criminal Court in Ratchada last week to discuss Film's defamation suit against her.

Last September, Mrs Rabiabrat told the media that Film appeared to regard women as mere objects of sexual gratification.

She was commenting on his dispute with actress Rungnapa "Annie'' Brooks, who claimed she gave birth to Film's unwanted son.

Film has refused to acknowledge paternity until she submits the child's DNA to a paternity test. Annie has refused, and the matter now rests with the court.

"Film's behaviour was careless and promiscuous,'' Mrs Rabiabrat, chairwoman of the Happy Family Association, told one interviewer.

Film's mother, Kormmon Thongmung, said that when she heard Mrs Rabiabrat criticise her son, she felt like dying right in front of the television. She was admitted to hospital with stress the same day.

Outside court, Film said on Thursday that Mrs Rabiabrat had now agreed to apologise, but the two were still stuck on the wording of the apology, and how it should be delivered. The court has called both parties together again on Wednesday.

"I want to consult my mother on the wording proposed, as she was affected by the comments, not just me,'' he said.

"We have yet to discuss the matter, as my mother has entered the nunnery temporarily.''

Mrs Rabiabrat said she works for the good of society, but if her comments upset people involved, she is happy to apologise. -

Ploy
Given a choice, outspoken actress Cherman "Ploy'' Boonyasak would rather be nasty than diplomatic to the media hounds who bug her.

A gossip magazine last week published pictures of Ploy getting in the face of a paparrazo who annoyed her at the airport.

Ploy, accompanied by her boyfriend Navin "Tar'' Yavapolkul and his family, were heading off on a private trip together.

Explaining the picture, feisty Ploy said they had just passed check-in, and bought a magazine and something to eat, but the magazine photographer would not leave them alone.

"He was right up close ... whenever I turned around, he was there,'' she said. "I tried to make light of the situation, as I know I have no right to shoo him away.

"I told the photographer that I am not some panda bear that you have to film every moment of the day. He ignored me, and kept filming,'' she said.

"Tar's father also asked him to give us some space, but once again was ignored,'' she said.

Journalists asked Ploy if she did not in fact speak more strongly to the cameraman than she was letting on. "Didn't you tell him that if Tar's father wasn't present, you'd have yanked his camera away by now?'' they asked.

"Er ... OK ... never mind,'' replied Ploy.

The actress added that the photographer's intrusiveness made her feel like she was some kind of object.

"If you must take pictures, why not take them from a distance, or use a zoom?'' she asked. "It was too much.''
