LIGHT-FINGERED, IT'S ALL OVER, GOING ALL THE WAY, AFFAIR AFTERMATH

Ikk, Alice
A celebrity chef says his hi-so singer girlfriend didn't mean to steal when she allegedly took goods from two city department stores worth 100,000 baht.

Singer and presenter Alisa "Alice'' Nana is likely to be charged with theft after she was allegedly caught with about 10 items of underwear, swimwear and handbags, all said to have been taken from the Siam Paragon and Siam Discovery department stores in a frenzied shoplifting spree on Feb 12.

Pathumwan police questioned her on the same day after shopowners laid a complaint.

They say that Alice visited one shop after another, asking to inspect the goods. When sales staff turned away, they said, she would grab an item and flee from their shop. When news of what was happening spread, shopowners contacted management and asked to view their store's security footage. It appeared to show the same woman was responsible for all the thefts.

With the help of security staff, they were able to track down the suspect. Police say the stolen items were found in the back of Alice's car.

Alice's mother turned up at the station.

The shopowners said she agreed to pay compensation to cover the value of the stolen items, and return the goods, so they decided to drop the matter. However, the police said they were obliged to take action under the law.

Her boyfriend, Bann "Ik'' Boribun, went before the media on Monday to say Alice suffers from kleptomania, and should be pitied rather than judged.

While he had known she was unwell since they started going out together two years ago, she had kept her condition a secret from her parents, as she felt too ashamed to tell them. Ik said he had taken Alice to see a psychiatrist, but said she needed ongoing care, with her family's support, if she was to get better.

"She is a good person - just ill,'' he said. "Alice is unable to control her impulses, and enjoys the sensation of stealing.

"She did not mean to do it ... She comes from a good family, and some of the items are not her size anyway.

"Society's tendency to judge can dissuade victims from seeking treatment, or encourage them to think that they are not really ill. But I don't feel ashamed of her in the least. She acknowledges the need to seek treatment, and she will do so with her family's support.'' -

Peuy, Tem
Sexy actress Panward "Peuy'' Hemmanee has lost her boyfriend, after he took exception to a gossip magazine's claim that he was seeing her merely to leach off her fame.

Peuy, who broke the news on Valentine's Day that her relationship with singer Watthisit "Tem'' Seubsuwann was at an end, said the pair had weathered many media storms since they started seeing each other.

However, an article in the gossip press claiming that Tem had no future, and was merely hanging on to Peuy to boost his own chances of fame, came as the last straw.

"Tem saw the article, and asked if he could call it off. He tends to brood about such things, and I have to take a measure of responsibility for the way it turned out,'' said Peuy.

The author of the gossip article did not speak to Peuy or Tem before making the claims, she said.

"You have no right to declare that someone has no future, that he is merely using someone else,'' she said, referring to the author.

"The article claimed that industry bosses had warned me about Tem ... not true,'' she said.

"Nor is it the case that he has no future ... he is a hard-working singer, who has an album coming out,'' she said, adding the two were still in contact and remain good friends.

She and Tem could one day get back together. "We still talk regularly ... he has started asking me for advice about women,'' she joked. -

Tao
Bad-boy actor Somchai "Tao'' Kemklat and the man he beat up in a noodle shop two years ago are threatening to take their bubbling dispute all the way to the Supreme Court.

The Appeals Court in Chiang Mai last week upheld a lower court verdict sentencing Tao to 15 days confinement for beating Lampang grocery store owner Wirachart "Kota'' Densirikhun, 57.

In January, 2009, Mr Kota complained to police that Tao beat him up at a roadside eatery as he was tucking into a bowl of noodles and dumplings. Tao denied the assault charge, insisting the head and body injuries sustained by Mr Kota that day were an accident.

The Lampang district court last April disagreed, finding that he indeed had assaulted Mr Kota, though the victim incurred no lasting physical or psychological damage.

Kota
It sentenced Tao to 15 days in jail, but commuted it to 15 days confinement, arguing a prison term would serve no useful purpose.

Tao and Mr Kota refused to acknowledge each other when they turned up at the court in Lampang on Tuesday to hear the ruling.
After the ruling, Tao's lawyer posted his client's 50,000 baht bail, so he could take the matter further to the Supreme Court.

Mr Kota said he was happy with the verdict, but would probably challenge Tao's appeal.

"I will have to take more care of myself, as getting beaten up just isn't worth it,'' he said. -

Pinky
Channel 9 has confirmed it does not want actress Savika "Pinky'' Chaiyadej for a big-budget soap opera, but denies it is punishing the actress for her affair with a presenter's husband.

Unveiling Channel 9's new season line-up, MCOT president Thanawat Wansom last week confirmed speculation that Pinky would not be cast as the lead of its big-budget period drama, Ee-Nao.

However, he insisted the station's policy of casting its own people was behind the decision, rather than negative public sentiment towards her. Pinky is trying to live down her affair last year with businessman Peck Sunchai - husband of actress and presenter Tanyaret "Tanya'' Engtrakul.

Peck and Tanya now live on different continents as they try to overcome their marriage troubles, while last October, Pinky asked for a break from the industry to give her reputation time to recover.

She was hoping the lead role in Ee-Nao would launch her return to the industry, but will now have to look elsewhere. Production house Kanata is making the soap for Channel 9. The role will now be taken by former Miss Thailand, Lalana ``Jiab'' Kongtoranin.

"We have a policy of casting people who have some association with us, and Lalana passed through one of our beauty pageants,'' said MCOT's Mr Thanawat, adding that Channel 9 had not closed the door on working with Pinky.

"Were not blocking her, though I admit that we will have to look more carefully at the background of actresses before casting them in future,'' he said.
