Tip of the iceberg, Concentrating too hard to notice, Already repaid in full

Andrew
Actor Supamorn "Andrew" Cronin has gone to ground since being found with methamphetamines at an inner-city apartment, in the second celebrity drug arrest in two weeks.

The Thai/English actor was found in possession of a small bag of ice, and paraphernalia for taking the drug.

Acting on a tip, Crime Suppression Division police raided the Palm Suite condominium in Phahon Yothin Road, Bang Khen, on March 5.

They had heard an ice party was in progress, but when they turned up, they found Andrew in the room alone.

Bang Khen police charged Andrew with taking ice, and having the drug in his possession. The next day, the Criminal Court at Ratchadapisek Road released him on 10,000 baht bail, and told him to report back on April 23.

Speaking to journalists before his court appearance, Andrew said he was staying at the apartment of a friend while his own place was being done up. The drugs were not his own, he insisted.

"I don't take drugs. The place is owned by a friend, and I'm staying there. It's all a misunderstanding," he said.

Police tested his urine, which read positive for the presence of drugs. They took him to Mongkut Wattana hospital, which performed a similar test. Again, the result returned positive.

Andrew has not commented on the urine test result, though the mother of his girlfriend, who has spoken to reporters, says on his behalf that he had been taking cough medicine.

Referring to herself as Andrew's foster mother, she said she suspects the urine sample merely tested positive for the cough medicine, not the ice.

Without giving details, she added that she believes Andrew was set up. "How many people have to be present for a drugs party? When police turned up, Andrew was there alone," she said.

Andrew recently moved from Channel 9 to Dara Video, a company making TV soaps on contract for Channel 7. Andrew has just started appearing in one, Neua Manoot.

Dara Video publicity chief Worapong Pinkaew, who visited Andrew at the station, said Andrew was sleeping alone at the apartment when police arrived.

He knew nothing about the drugs or drug paraphernalia, as police found them in the apartment, not on Andrew himself. It was too early to say how the drugs fuss would affect Andrew's work.

Actress/model Yosawadee "Yo" Husadeevijit, a friend of Andrew's, says the public will give him another chance if he confesses to any wrong he has committed.

"I haven't been able to reach him, as he has deleted all his contacts from his BlackBerry phone since the drug saga came to light," said Yo.

"I asked him recently why he was looking so gaunt. He said he was losing weight for his role in Nuea Manoot. At the time I did not give it any more thought.

"I am happy to offer advice as a friend, and hope people do not rush to judge him. However, I suspect that at this time, he also needs space to be alone, to come to terms with what has happened."

This is the second high-profile drugs arrest involving a Thai celebrity this month. Last week, television comedian Wanida Saengsuk (Nok Chernyim) was charged with importing methamphetamines, taking the drug, and possessing with intent to supply.

Border police found the drugs hidden in Nok's clothing when she crossed back into Thailand from a weekend trip to Cambodia. It was Wanida's second drugs arrest in two years.

As a result of the drugs fuss, she has lost her role in the Modernine TV sit-com, Ban Ni Mi Rak. Exact Productions boss Takonkiat "Boy" Weerawan, who makes it, has thrown Nok, 42, off the show.

Editors are removing her scenes, or blurring her image from the seven episodes which have yet to air. -

Oh
Actor/dancer Anuchyd "Oh" Sapanphong, a favourite of the gay set, says he felt nothing when Grammy singer Marsha Vadhanapanich stroked his crotch during a recent concert.

Oh, who is dogged by the gay rumour, says he is pleased with reaction to the saucy dance number he performed with Marsha at the "This Is It: The Concert" tribute to Michael Jackson.

Oh is well-known for playing a gay hi-so racing driver in the high-polling Channel 5 soap, Tomorrow, I'll Still Love You. However, despite the persistent gay rumours, he claims he is straight.

"Friends tease me, asking if Martha really did stroke my crotch, and if I felt anything. As we danced together, she really did make contact with me there, but I was too busy thinking about what moves I would have to perform next to feel anything," he said.

Oh, playing a blood-sucking demon, also buried his face in Marsha's breasts.

"If you view the still shots, it looks like strong stuff, but if you were sitting in the audience it fitted in well with the show. We were performing, so I didn't feel much," he said. -

Tony Jaa
Martial arts actor/director Tony Jaa has been offered a cut-price exit from a legal dispute with a Korean businesswoman, but is refusing to take up the offer.

Eunhee Park, a shareholder in a film production house, last December took Jaa to court for failing to repay a one million baht loan.

Ms Park says Jaa borrowed the money in July 2008 to help him finish his troubled big-budget martial arts film, Ong Bak 2. His backers, Sahamongkol Film (SF), cut off financing for the film after he went drastically over-budget. He walked off the set for two months in protest.

Although Jaa and SF eventually reconciled, Jaa borrowed money from Ms Park in the interim, which she now wants back, said her lawyer Jaruporn Reuangkeht.

The two sides went back to court last week. Ms Park, said Mr Jaruporn, is now willing to settle the dispute for 700,000 baht. Jaa, however, argues that he owes Ms Park only 500,000 baht, as he has already made payments of 500,000 baht to her account.

Mr Jaruporn said those repayments were unrelated to the loan contract, but represented other cash loans which Ms Park had given Jaa during his financial troubles. They covered items such as payments for a car, hotel bills, clothes, and security.

Ms Park is in the US receiving treatment for cancer. "She has had three operations, and just wants this whole thing to end," said Mr Jaruporn.

She was prepared to enter out-of-court talks with Jaa, but Jaa could not be reached, and his lawyer would negotiate only at court.

In December, Mr Jaruporn filed papers on Ms Park's behalf with the Civil Court in Bangkok, accusing Jaa of failing to abide by his loan contract.

Jaa had promised he would repay the money as soon as the film was released, he said, but so far his client had seen nothing.

Jaa did not turn up to court this week, but sent his lawyer. The court has called both parties together again on March 23.
