GRIN AND GRIP, FUTURES WATCH, FAKE ID BLUES, DAILY BREAD

Pancake
''Pancake is not some poor temple girl, but my daughter!''

Nuannong '‘Noi'’ Jamikorn, outspoken mother of actress Khemanij ''Pancake'' Jamikorn, protested at a function in Chiang Mai when her daughter was asked to pose with one guest after another, with no respite in sight.

That might have been the end of it, except an organiser of the function has now posted an account of their row at a web forum.

Mum, who says she was expecting blowback, has again come out swinging on her daughter’s behalf.

Mum, Pancake and her boyfriend, actor Sukolwat ''Weir'’ Kanarot, travelled to Chiang Mai for the function, held at the Shangri-La hotel.

They left after Mum argued with organisers about the ''shabby'' way they treated her daughter.

Mum complains that the organiser expected Pancake to pose for pictures with anyone who asked, even though the poor girl was propped up on high heels and getting tired legs.

Pancake accepted a fee to attend the event, specifically to pose with guests. Organisers even paid her airfare.

For Mum, however, the event lacked structure.

''I told her to rest. I complained, saying she was supposed to pose only with VIP guests. I suggested they bring the guests through in groups, not one at a time.

''I admit we had words. The organiser spoke to me in appalling fashion. I refuse to lower myself to that level.

''If this was a charity event such as the Red Cross fair, I would have no complaint. But this was a private function. They treated her like the girl who falls into a tub of water at a temple fair,'' says Mum, denying she insisted on star treatment on her daughter's behalf.

Mum waded in to the drama after a woman who describes herself as an organiser left a plain-spoken account of what happened at a web forum.

She went to Chiang Mai airport to meet them, only to be told by Pancake's party when they arrived that they did not need transport. They had arranged a car of their own.

Pancake’s Mum has family in the northern city, who picked them up instead.

The organiser complained that Pancake’s party was supposed to arrive at the function at 5.30pm, but turned up almost 90 minutes late.

As Pancake posed for pictures, Mum complained that too many people wanted them, her daughter was tired, and she should have to pose only with VIPs. On top of that, she had accepted the job at a ''cheap'' rate.

''But all our guests are VIPs,'' insisted the manager.

''Right, Pancake, Weir, let's go,'' said Mum, and they stormed out, claims the website poster.

Guests included hospital executives, a cabinet member, and other important bods. ''After seeing the way Pancake and her mother behaved, few will want to have anything to do with them again,'' the poster declared.

''Pancake, I bet you posed for thousands of pictures with fans before becoming a star. No one makes money as easily as a celebrity.

'‘Is it really asking so much that you pose for pictures, when you accept a 100,000 baht fee?’' -

Lydia
''Unlike ordinary fortune tellers, he tells fortunes with his wristwatch!'’ says a dismayed Saranrat ''Lydia'' Wisutthithada, testifying in her court dispute with fortune teller Mor Krit.

R&B singer Lydia is aghast that Mor Krit, who erroneously forecast she was pregnant, doesn’t use conventional methods followed by most mor du, who take into account a client’s day, month and year of birth.

Mor Krit, she says, is so unconventional that he consults his own watch – so no wonder he gets it wrong.

''Mor Krit forecasts stars’ fortunes to make himself famous. He is piggy-backing off their fame, and doesn’t care how much harm he causes,'’ she told a Criminal Court hearing.

Mor Krit, for his part, insists he tells fortunes based on recognised principles of the trade, and does adhere to professional ethics.

Lydia was giving testimony to back her 50 million baht defamation suit against the fortune teller.

She says he damaged her reputation in forecasting that she was pregnant, when she was not. Lydia said the forecast coincided with press reports that she had fallen pregnant to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, and travelled to Malaysia for an abortion.

Mor Krit has since decided to fight back with several suits of his own against Lydia, her mother, and her boyfriend, worth B100m in total.

He is suing to recover his human dignity, after Lydia kept talking about their dispute in public, and refused to attend conciliation. Her mother also tried to make him prostrate at her feet, which he resents.

A civil court has thrown out the suit against Lydia’s Mum, but the others are still in place.

After hearing Lydia’s testimony, the Criminal Court decided to accept the singer's case. It set the first hearing for July 20. -

My Dad hasn’t fled dangerous driving charges, he’s just gone on a visa run...

That’s Thai-Italian actor Salamone ''Stefan'' Weeraboonchai, defending his Italian father after a recent motor vehicle accident which ended in fatality.

Ivo Giansranco Salamone was driving his son’s Yamaha Fino motorcycle in Prachaniwet 3 market on Feb 8 when he hit a pedestrian.

Victim Wittaya Sormanan, 62, an air conditioning engineer, fell to the road and struck his head. He spent 20 days in hospital, but died on Feb 28.

His son and daughter, clutching a portrait of Wittaya, appealed to the media, saying they were worried they would not get justice.

Ivo had not visited Wittaya in hospital. His wife turned up at the funeral, but gave the family just 500 baht towards expenses.

Nonthaburi police called in Stefan for questioning.

The actor says his mother had visited the victim four or five times, and he had offered the family 15,000 baht to meet initial expenses.

They turned it down, as they wanted 200,000 baht.

His father had not fled the prospect of police charges. Ivo gave a fake name, Stephen Samsor, on the day of the accident because his visa had expired and he worried about getting in immigration strife.

He had since gone to Italy to renew it. His mother gave 500 baht in an envelope on the day of the funeral as that was all the money she took with her.

Police say Wittaya's family want 1 million baht in compensation, but if the two parties cannot settle, they will have to take their claim to court.

They intend charging Ivo with dangerous driving causing death. Stefan promises his father will turn up to hear the charge, once he has returned from overseas. -

Dome
Model Pakorn ''Dome'' Lum just can’t help himself where the women are concerned.

At the Hua Hin music festival, he was spotted with a young woman. At the Emporium department store a few days later, he was seen with yet another girl.

Until recently, Dome was seeing actress Intira ''Cartoon'' Ketworasoontorn. Shortly after they started going together, poor Cartoon was engulfed in a teen marriage scandal, and caught out lying to the press.

Dome declared valiantly that he wasn’t interested in her past, just the girl he knew in the present.

For Dome, however, girls in the present don’t last long. More recently, he described Cartoon as a mere "friend'’.

The entertainment press is speculating about where Dome’s latest dalliances leave poor Cartoon.

One gossip mag’s headline? "Dome isn’t interested in Cartoon’s past – and not really interested in her, either!'’
