LOST IN KATHOEY CATFIGHT, CHRIS'S KISSES, HUGO KEEPS IT SIMPLE

Poj, Aun
A schoolboy and new face to acting has become famous overnight, though not in the way he might have wished.

All eyes will be on actor Pirawich ''Aun'' Boonnark when director Poj Anon's kathoey football comedy, Taew Te Teen Rabert, opens next month.

That's not because the 16-year-old can deliver spectacular girly-style kicks – merely because the director has been in a kathoey catfight over him with an ambitious talent manager.

Poj has been arguing with manager Supachai ''A'' Sriwichit, who also spotted the young man's star potential, and tried to lure him away from Poj to join his own camp.

Aun, who studies at Surasak Montree School, is the lead actor in a cast of 16 youngsters, most of whom Poj found by scouting Bangkok secondary schools.

Poj has dragged a stunned-looking Aun from one interview to another as he argued via the media with manager A, whose star clients include Mario Maurer and Patcharapa ''Aum'' Chaichuea.

Poj, director of kathoey comedies Cheerleader Queens, and Spicy Beauty Queen of Bangkok, spotted Aun at a city cineplex, and after a casting call asked his mother to let him appear in the film. However, he did not sign a contract with the young man.

Meanwhile, talent manager A also spotted Aun's star potential (''he's handsome - he'll be famous one day!''), after he saw Aun in a teen fashion magazine.

A called Poj, asking if he could represent the boy. Poj says he did not give an answer, but then heard from Aun that one of A's agents called the boy herself.

A woman who places teens in modelling work called Aun, after getting his number from his school friends.

''She asked if we could meet and discuss a signing a contract with A, who would find me work,'' said Aun.

''But I talked to my mother and we agreed I would stay with Poj, who discovered me. If it was not for him, I would not have come this far,'' he said.

Aun, meanwhile, has been trying not to notice as a messy kathoey catfight unfolds around him.

''He's not a star-maker - he's just a thief!'' Poj exclaimed in one jab at A, while Aun stood loyally by his side.

Poj, wearing a comically short pair of shorts, also joined two other star-makers on television to criticise A for poaching their dek pun – teen models and actors whose careers they are nurturing.

They included talent manager Nirun Coco Limsomwong, who is taking legal action against A after he ''stole'' Mario from his stable while he was still under contract.

A admits that an agent called Aun on his behalf, but says he merely intended to take him along to an event. ''I know he still belongs to Poj, whom I respect. I have called Poj to apologise,'' he said.

Poj says he doesn't mind if A offers his young stars work. However, he says A should not try to sign them up behind his back.

A day after the argument broke out, one teacher at Aun's school remarked that Aun was now famous. However, Aun himself sounds less impressed.

''I don't expect much from the industry. In one day, the whole school knows me - but I would rather it had not happened this way, with two adults arguing over me. The movie is not even out yet, but look at the fuss it is creating,'' he said.

Poj's leading man was a new face to acting. What better way to make him well known instantly than create a controversy over him?

Poj is no doubt quietly grateful that A's agent tried to lure the young man away, though you will never hear that from the outspoken director himself.-

It wasn't a breast sniff, still less an armpit sniff, says actress Patcharapa ''Aum'' Chaichuea, commenting on leaked pictures of herself at the seaside with "close friend" Kornwat ''Note'' Chaiwirawat.

Leaked pictures are causing so much bother for the star set - though in some cases they are leaked more by design than accident.

Aum, who is having trouble deciding whether to go steady with socialite Note or her other ''close friend'', actor Todd Sina, says they are both just buddies, so she can visit the seaside with whoever she likes.

Siam Dara gossip magazine says the pictures suggested the couple looked closer, and that he was stealing a sniff of her breast. Aum herself refers jokingly to the pictures as those ''armpit sniff pics,'' but says reporters are wrong on both counts.

''It's a camera angle thing. Note says he is not some sicko who likes to sniff girls' armpits. He was reaching for something as I was sitting with my back to him.

''We went to Hua Hin with friends. Someone in our group took the photograph, and posted it on Facebook,'' says Aum.

She was still closer to Todd, who was in Chiang Mai at the time, and knew about her trip.

''It's not a case of, 'I'm beautiful, so I can choose','' she insists.-

Christopher, Mod
Who is model Christopher Robert?

Until this week, few people knew. He's the young man caught kissing RS Promotions singer Mod, of the Four-Mod duo (Sakolrat Wora-urai and Chutimon Chairat).

The pictures first emerged as still shots, which were racy enough to prompt RS to warn Mod about her behaviour.

Later in the week, Thais discovered the images of the pair kissing on bed were not stills at all, but part of a brief video.

Mod's mother Parawisa Chairat blames Chris, saying he released them to drum up publicity for himself.

At first, Chris, 17, a first-year student at Chulalongkorn University, couldn't remember the pictures, which suggests he has amassed an impressive collection of Chris kisses-the-girls shots. He has since apologised.

Later in the week, yet another leaked picture emerged, of Chris and an old flame, model Yingmaen (Mom Rachawong Mannarumas Yukol), sharing a close moment in a swimming pool.

Chris, who looks like a wet cat, gets an enthusiastic kiss on his right cheek from Yingmaen, which is only slightly less daring than the mouth kiss he gave poor Mod.

Hours after that picture emerged, Yingmaen's current boyfriend, Parunyou ''Tack'' Rojanavudtitham, declared before reporters that he was putting a hold on their relationship.

A teary Yingmaen, who was also there, presented him with a bunch of flowers, which failed to appease him. ''I admit I fly off the handle, cause dramas and talk too much, but I would like another chance,'' she said.

Tack, who recently left the monkhood in Chiang Mai, says he would like time to be with himself and family. ''Our relationship has made me uncomfortable for some time,'' he said grimly.

They would still appear at modelling functions, as they were often booked as a duo. They also denied that Chris's kiss pics influenced their decision to cool things off.-

4.
Hugo
Singer Chulachak ''Hugo'' Chakrabongse and his bride-to-be are bucking the trend for big engagement dowries.

Announcing plans to wed long-time girlfriend, presenter Tatsanawalai ''Hana'' Ongajittichai on March 21, Hugo said their wedding dowry would amount to 125 baht.

''That's not 125 baht weight in gold, but cash,'' added Hana.

For some Thai celebrities, an engagement dowry alone can amount to 100m baht. But this couple wants to keep it simple - in line with Hugo's new religion.

Hugo has converted to Islam to be with Hana, who is Muslim. The small dowry is in line with Muslim practice.

Hugo has taken an oath of allegiance to his new religion. They will probably spend most of their time overseas, as he is working on an album in New York.

Hana says she was delighted to hear that Hugo was prepared to change from the Buddhist faith to be with her - yet religion is not the only barrier they might have to overcome.

Hugo is a fan of the People's Alliance for Democracy, while Hana is a friend of Panthongtae ''Oak'' Shinawatra, son of former prime minister Thaksin, favourite hate figure of the PAD.

So, between the yellows and reds, who will be the appeasing side this time?
