Wit |
Wit's left eye is in a sad droop since he started taking botox injections at the clinic last month. He took over a beauty treatment course bought, but later abandoned by a friend. Now his eye is a mess.
His friend spent B130,000 on her course. She stopped going there after her face collapsed, to quote the Thai media.
Wit, 38, thought he knew the game. Star of the television soap opera Raem Pitsawat, he had taken botox injections over the last four or five years, and never encountered a problem.
Thrifty Wit thought it would be a shame to let the money which his friend spent on her laser course go to waste.
At her suggestion, Wit asked the clinic whether he could continue with her treatment, only exchanging its value for botox instead.
''I never thought that when her face collapsed, I would meet a similar problem with my eye,'' he said this week, as he laid a complaint with Lumpini police against the Pewdee clinic at Central Chidlom.
''I took an injection at the clinic late last month, and noticed my left eye starting to droop. Now it has sagged so low it has almost closed.
''I went to see the clinic's doctor, who proposed paying me B10,000 a week until the drug - which paralyses the muscles - washed out of my system.''
Wit was unhappy with this offer, as his droopy eye condition could take five-six months to correct itself. Meantime, he has had to cancel work, as no one wants to hire him with a lazy eye.
''I am too embarrassed to go out anywhere, and if I do, I have to wear shades. They are choosing to compensate me by down-payment. But why not just refund me the B130,000 cost of the course, then look after my ongoing care?
''Instead, they make me turn up here every week to pick up my B10,000 baht - I am not some street beggar,'' he sniffed.
Wit says he knows that in laying the complaint, his droopy eye will appear all over the media. However, he is prepared to take the case to serve as an example of the dangers of botox treatment gone wrong.
On webboards, Thais are unsympathetic. ''Get the doctor to inject the other side, and you can look puffy and droopy on both sides like Sylvester Stallone.''
''It's cool. With that droopy eye, you look permanently suspicious of those around you.''
For Wit, however, his sad eye is no laughing matter.
''I demand justice. ''If you inject anything into your body, there will always be side-effects,'' he says, sounding like a converted ex-smoker.
Wit's friend, despite encountering her own treatment problems at the clinic, chose not to take legal action, but simply abandoned her course.
When Wit asked if he could take over the unused portion of the course, the thought of ''seeking justice'' on her behalf was evidently far from his mind, too. He was only interested in his botox.
Once a botox fiend, always a botox fiend? ''Hey, man, I can buy good stuff with that - don't let that money go to waste!'' -
The media is praising actress Pattaratida ''Tangmo''
Patcharaveerapong for being man enough (just a figure of speech) to
admit she has been seeing a guy on the side.
How many Thai actresses will openly admit to being unfaithful? No one does so readily, but Tangmo gave the game away when she burst into tears at a city fashion parade.
On the catwalk, Tangmo asked her long-term boyfriend, hi-so model Karoon ''Kong'' Sorsodthikul, to take her by the hand.
It was the first time they had worked together after days of arguing, she told the media later.
She tried to contact him, but he refused to answer her calls. Was it all over?
When they finally met on the catwalk, and he refused her hand, she thought the worst.
''No!'' he told her.
Tangmo tried to hold on to her emotions, but failed. Gossip rags ran grainy pictures of her against a wall, sobbing.
On the internet, Thais criticised her boyfriend Kong, whom they assumed had been two-timing on the poor girl.
Men, after all, are the ones with wandering eyes who think nothing of betraying their partners, right?
In this case, it's the other way around.
After Thais gave her boyfriend a lashing on webboards, Tangmo felt the need to set the record straight.
She chose a doll shop in Siam Paragon, opened by actress friend Araya ''Chompoo'' A Hargett, for her big announcement (for more on a new doll craze among Thai entertainers, see next story).
''When that picture of me crying came out, people were asking whether Kong had wronged me...if I had caught him playing around with someone; or maybe that I had discovered he was gay.
''He didn't do anything. I am to blame.
''I was close to another man, which made Kong unhappy. And this was not the first time that he caught wind of this...it's a few times now.
''And I have promised him many times...but I kept making contact with this man, just a little.
''I am no longer seeing this guy, as I have learnt my lesson. Everything is my mistake, the result of my own stubborn, wicked
behaviour.
''I tried to make contact with Kong, to confess and apologise. But I couldn't reach him.
''When I asked for his hand, I was already feeling bad for making him unhappy. When he refused me, I couldn't hold in my tears, as hard as I tried.''
This story, while not set in a dollhouse fantasy-land as such, appears headed for a happy ending.
Later that night, the pair talked, and Kong forgave her.
Tangmo says she has now forgiven herself, and will try to be a faithful partner from now on.
On webboards, once-critical Thais now admire Tangmo for her courage in admitting she strayed (kort man!) - but are also speculating about who she was seeing.
Actors with whom she has worked, such as Nawat ''Pong'' Kulrattanarak? Anuchit ''Oh'' Sapanphong?
Tangmo won't name the man who took her eye, as the blame for upsetting her boyfriend, she says, should lie with herself alone. -

Actress Araya ''Chompoo'' A Hargett has a collection of more than 100
of the big-eyed, Goth-looking dolls, and wants to spread the love
around. With three friends, she has opened a shop called the Doll
House, for Blythe doll admirers.
''Even though the economy is in a bad way, I am sure there are Blythe doll fans out there who will keep collecting,'' she says.
But the dolls' fans are not confined to girls. Step forward Grammy singer Pongsak ''Aof'' Rattanapong, who has about 40 Blythe dolls in his collection. His elder sister introduced the dolls to him.
Some Thais reckon Blythe dolls look like psycho Chucky from the horror movies, but Aof reckons they are cute. Aof says he is unworried if Thais think he is gay, just because he plays with dolls.
He says the most expensive one he has bought is B20,000. Like Chompoo, he denies spending ''lavishly'' on them.
The velvety-voiced singer has been collecting for a year, and buys here and overseas. ''These days, it is nothing unusual for men to play with dolls. Check out the Blythe dolls Thailand website - most of the admirers there are men,'' he says.
