STEALING A KISS FROM A 'PRETTY', EROTIC FILM WITH NO LOVE SCENE

Claims that the editor of an entertainment magazine stole a kiss and a cuddle from a student might be front-page grist for the Thai media, but for his former wife, it's a lot of drama over nothing.

Pantipa Sakunchai, former spouse of Maya Channel gossip magazine editor Toi Akner (Kriengkrai Sakunchai), has come out to defend him against claims that he took sexual liberties with a work exchange student.
Toi
Her stout defence of his conduct shows that if a man is in the public eye, it pays to stay on good terms with his former wife - though he can still expect a kick in the guts or two.

''She's not his specs,'' declared Pantipa (aka Jeh Tim TV Pool) bluntly, when asked if she thought Toi tried to kiss and cuddle the student at his Lad Prao condo as alleged.

''If he is going to do something like that, wouldn't someone in the entertainment industry be better?'' she asked. ''In that job, he is spoilt for choice. He's also about to get married to a university teacher.

''The student just wants to make a name for herself. The story is like something out of a bad soap opera. Lawyers and judges have told me that at the most he might be fined 5,000-20,000 baht if he is guilty. But because Toi's reputation is involved, it has become much bigger.''

Student Phetkamporn ''Oh'' Ngamchopreuk's claims have made national news for days, after she complained to police that Toi molested her at his condo.

Before the media, Oh wears a large pair of sunglasses, and cries often. Vowing she would not take a single baht in settlement, she appealed to any other women in Toi's life who have been exposed to similar conduct to come forward.

The Sripatum University student says the affair has hurt her chances of graduating quickly, as work experience is a course requirement, and now she'll have to go somewhere else. Her student friends have waved banners of protest outside his office.

Toi, who denies the molestation claims, says he works from his condo, and anyone can visit. He has taken on many work experience students in 30 years, without problem.

Oh, a former ''pretty'' girl hostess, says the pair dined together. Over their meals, she learned that Toi was a typical flirt, but she didn't think much of it...until the day he invited her to his condo, tried to steal two cheek sniffs, and force her into a hug.

The kick in the guts? Former wife Pantipa says the two-seater white sports car in which Toi allegedly took Oh for meals belongs to their eldest son. Toi borrowed it so he could show off to the girls, she
says.

She is again urging her former husband to change his surname, a campaign she has kept up since their divorce. They have been apart 14 years.

Toi believes someone is pulling strings behind the scenes to discredit him. Oh says she fears ''dark influence'' at work. Conspiracy theories, anyone? -

Tong
It could have been a perfect match: a world-ranked tennis star, and a model.

When Rafael Nadal asked Thai singer and model Pakkaramai ''Tong'' Potranun to dance at a Thai nightclub over New Year, her friends ooh-ed and aah-ed. But Tong, who did not recognise him as a star, gave him his dance, then left.

Rafael, the world No 1-ranked tennis star, asked for the dance while at a Phuket nightspot. Being a shy type, or perhaps wary that his own fame might intimidate the girl, he passed on his request to the service staff.

He needn't have bothered. ''He was young, and nervous,'' Tong says, recalling her time in the arms of Spaniard Rafael.

''We didn't talk much - How are you? What's your name? When they switched to slow-moving romantic songs, I raced back to my friends.''

She did not ask for his email or contact number. This has impressed the Thai media, which lauds Tong for upholding the virtue of Thai women by keeping herself aloof even in the presence of such good looks and fame.

In truth, she didn't know who the man was.

''I was thick. When a friend of mine told me in amazed tones that I was dancing with Rafael Nadal, I still didn't recognise him, as I am not a tennis fan. The girls took out their compact face mirrors to check how they looked - everyone was agog.''

Tong does not regret letting the opportunity slip. ''I do not go out with men I meet in nightspots. And if they are famous, I am even more reluctant, as they would have women after them wherever they go.

''However, if we did meet again, we could be friends. I could ask for free tickets to tennis games,'' she says hopefully. -

Peuy
Actress Panward ''Peuy'' Hemmanee has a message for the fan who sent her pubic hairs in the post: someone else opens my mail, not me!

Before, Peuy was getting prank phone calls at home. Now, fans with strange minds have stepped it up a notch, sending her pubic hairs in the mail. The letter came from the province of Phayao, though unsurprisingly, the sender chose not to identify himself.

Still, Peuy has a message for Mr Pubic Hair of Phayao. ''Luckily, I did not open that letter myself. My aunt opened it for me. You can send me whatever you like, because you are wasting your time: I don't open my own mail.

''However, I am worried about my aunt, as she has yet to get married,'' said Peuy, implying that only married women get to see such awful things as male pubic hair.

Peuy says the security guard at her housing village now keeps an eye out for any strange types. Next time, she says she might have to visit the police. -

The same actress, Panward ''Peuy'' Hemmanee, will star in Thailand's first fully-fledged ''erotic'' movie - though on the face of it, she looks an odd choice.

Peuy says she likes to dress as a cartoon character, doesn't mind if people liken her to a Barbie doll, and loves to shower herself with children's talcum powder.

Can this girl act convincingly in an adult movie? Actress Bongkoj ''Tak'' Khongmalai, known for her big breasts and sharp tongue, is directing the film, called Tabeng Mahn, overseen by producer Pracha Pinkaew for Sahamongkol Films.

Tak, who was earlier expected to star, asked Peuy if she would take the role instead. She insists it will be a quality film, not a skin flick. It will be so high-brow, it won't even have a love scene.

She has given us a taste of what to expect: ''I am not sitting down exposing my breasts on the screen. It's not that kind of film,'' she retorted to early claims that she was using her sexy image to sell the movie. It is Tak's first effort as director.

Pracha, who says filming is likely to start in March, says the script-writer wrote the plot with Tak's own life story in mind.

''Women are the stars. It is about a young woman growing up in a troubled family, who is deprived of choices. It will be Thailand's first fully-fledged erotic movie, but I think audiences are ready,'' he says.
