Lydia's Mum says kneel, Mario off to court, Pae gets toilet shy

Mor Krit apologises to Lydia’s mum.
What goes around, comes around for celebrity fortune-teller Mor Krit Confirm, who almost found himself begging at a woman's feet for forgiveness this week after getting a star's forecast wrong.

R-n-B singer Saranrat ''Lydia'' Wisutthithada declared on Tuesday that she is suing the fortune-teller for 50 million baht after his damaging forecast that she was pregnant.

Mor Krit (real name, Sukrit Patumdhsriwiroj), 23, reckons he saw the lawsuit coming: ''I have read my own stars and can see myself giving evidence in my defence.''

However, his forecasting powers apparently failed him the day before, when Lydia's mum, Sansanee, stormed the stage at a hi-so function where Mor Krit was speaking, to demand he apologise.

She broke into a function held by gossip rag Siam Dara at the Siam Paragon department store, where a DJ host had just asked Mor Krit to comment on his infamous Lydia pregnancy claim.

Her mother strode onto the stage and started reprimanding the young fortune-teller in the middle of the show.

''Who told you to tell her stars? Who gave you permission?'' she demanded.

''I am just doing my job,'' he replied meekly into his microphone.

''Well, I'm doing my job as her mum, too

[protecting Lydia],'' Ms Sansanee said.

He hastily apologised and gave her a wai, but that wasn't good enough.

''If you're sorry, then get down on your knees!'' she exclaimed.

Mor Krit was about to prostrate himself when organisers separated them and hustled him off stage.

The story was front-page fodder all last week. On TV, Lydia cried as she talked about her ordeal since Mor Krit made his pregnancy claim.

''Since last month, whenever I leave home, people have looked at my stomach, not at my face, and asked if I am pregnant, or have had an abortion. People call my mother and ask her constantly. My whole family is tense,'' she said.

Lydia is a close friend of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The tabloid press speculated that Thaksin divorced his wife, Khunying Potjaman, last month so he could marry Lydia and raise her baby.

Lydia says she has been in contact with Thaksin and is sure he is not interested in marrying her.

Mor Krit says the media read too much into it: ''All I said was that there is a chance she could get pregnant. I didn't say she was pregnant with certainty.''

The message was lost on the Thai Astrologer's Association, which said fortune-tellers should avoid telling their clients bad news, and keep personal matters private. On the face of it, Mor Krit breached their code of ethics, it said.

Mor Krit's girlfriend accused a DJ host at the Paragon event of staging the confrontation between Mor Krit and Lydia's mum, and said her boyfriend had received anonymous phone calls from people wanting to do him harm.

On a TV variety show in September, Mor Krit annoyed viewers with his aggressive, in-your-face manner. He admitted he wanted to be famous and claimed he had read the stars of 40,000 people since his mid-teens, with few mistakes.

Earlier, he achieved minor fame with his assertion that minor actress Amita ''Nan'' Chinsumrej was not actually pregnant, despite her claim to the contrary. He was right.

In May last year, Nan tearfully confessed that she had made up the story about being pregnant and giving birth to a baby girl to gain attention and drum up publicity for a kiss-and-tell book.

Tonight, Mor Krit is interviewed again on the same variety show, after what is probably the worst week of his life. He has achieved the overnight fame he sought, but at what cost?

''My whole world has changed, and I feel as if I hardly know myself any more,'' he tells host Wootithorn ''Woody'' Milintajinda.

''People say I am sarcastic, arrogant, poorly brought up. I have cried many times, and lost sleep,'' he says tearily.

Mor Krit says he never considered how his remarks about Lydia's possible pregnancy could be so upsetting, and would like to apologise.

On the infamous ''get down at my feet'' scene with Lydia's mum, Mor Krit says he was prepared to bow down and beg her forgiveness, but not as far as getting on the ground.-

Coco, Mario
All is far from happy under the Christmas tree for actor Mario Maurer, who has fallen out with his former manager, Niroon ''Coco'' Limsomwong.

Coco, who discovered Mario in Siam Square, where his first movie role in the family drama Love of Siam was set over the yule-tide season, is taking him and his new manager to court.

Mario has left Coco to join rival manager Supachai ''A'' Sriwichit. Coco says his young protege's behaviour has changed for the worse since he met his girlfriend, singer Sumontip ''Koop Kip'' Leuangthai.

Under her influence, he started bunking functions where he was hired to act as presenter so he could eat ice-cream with friends in Siam Square. He is also upset with rival manager A, whom he says has long plotted to lure away high-earning Mario.

On Friday, Coco met the media to say he had filed papers with the court. He is seeking six million baht in damages from manager A, whom he accuses of defaming his character, and 630,000 baht in damages from Mario for breach of contract.

He chose A's birthday to start legal proceedings, although he denies he acted out of spite. Mario, for his part, says that if Coco wants to sue him, he is welcome. He is willing to pay any penalty for breach of contract, if that is the price of securing his freedom.

Earlier in the week, a teary Koop Kip asked Coco to keep herself and manager A out of his dispute with Mario. Coco responded saying Koop Kip can turn the tears off and on at will, just like an actress.-

Pae
Actor Arak ''Pae'' Amornsupasiri has turned into a social activist since someone spied on him while relieving himself in a department store toilet.

Pae, guitarist in the rock band Slur and star of such movies as The Body and The Last Moment, says he laments the state of Thai society when a guy can't even do his business in private any more.

Thai Rath newspaper says someone tried spying on him over the cubicle wall using a mirror. Siam Dara gossip rag says someone actually tried to film him, using a mobile phone camera.

From Thai Rath: Pae says he was sitting there, minding his own business, when he noticed a hand holding a mirror pop up above the cubicle. He hollered and beat the door. The hand quickly disappeared.

From Siam Dara: Pae says he has been pestered twice while visiting the men's at the same city department store, which he declined to name. The first time he was standing at a urinal when someone tried to film him.

He caught him, but the offender apologised, so he let him go. The second time he was sitting in an end cubicle relieving himself. He heard a strange noise, looked up and saw someone was filming him.

He shouted abuse, and the offender fled. Pae says he could not give chase as he wasn't finished doing his business.

As social values change, he says, the number of sickos lurking about increases.

''Before, you could look at someone and tell what he was like. You can't any more,'' he laments.

''Who on earth would want to see me doing number 2's?''

''This is a new social evil ... it's not just women any more who get spied on or filmed secretly while taking a shower in a hotel. Now men are targets as well.''
