Gumpan's seaweed blues, Duck's menagerie, Chatty Tol rebuffed

Gumpan
Singer Gumpan Bazoo posed for a revealing calendar/diary - and ended up showing more of himself than he expected.

The singer has joined all-but-forgotten actor Jakrin "Bogie" Silpachiayakit in making a sexy calendar for 2009. Gumpan, whose football gambling habit dealt a blow to his entertainment career years ago, says he hopes the calendar will revive public interest.

He was warned that if he revealed too much, he would never get work in television, which insists its actors remain respectable.

The production team making the calendar wanted him to pose in underwear briefs. He insisted on boxers, but photographers insisted he pull them down a notch, then another - until his "seaweed" (pubic hair) was showing.

"When I started the shoot, I was embarrassed, as I am not a model. For another part of the calendar, two guys stripped off to show their backsides ... I was shocked.

"I should have insisted on choosing the pictures. Although the shoot still looks tasteful, I am surprised at how much of myself I end up showing.

"I knew I had a lot of seaweed, but I didn't realise it would sprout above the line of my briefs. I asked the retouch artist if he added anything there - he denied it."

"Gumpan forgets to shave his curlies," trumpeted a headline in the Manager newspaper.

Next time, Gumpan says, he'll shave.

Actor Bogie, meanwhile, is getting flak for appearing too "soft". His body lacks muscle tone, critics say.

Bogie's star faded after he was linked to talisman-maker Sia Ood (Sitthikorn Boonchim), who showers gifts on young male stars who take his fancy. Ood is in jail awaiting trial on charges that he duped consumers and used the royal insignia inappropriately.

Bogie, who like Gumpan says he resisted taking too much off, denies he made the calendar because he has hit hard times.

At a function to launch the calendar, both men took off their tops and performed gay-looking dance routines. In the audience cheering them on was a bank advertising manager who keeps a menagerie of young stars (see next story).

Ped, with Tack, and Film
A bank advertising manager is an unlikely benefactor to a coterie of young male stars.

Supee "Ped" (Duck) Pongpanit, advertising and promotions director for Siam Commercial Bank, keeps the company of Rattapoom "Film" Tongkongsap, Chanapol "Aof" Sataya and Parunyou "Tack" Rojanavudtitham, among others.

Ped says she and her husband have a good laugh over media reports which suggest she is sugar-mummy to a retinue of young male admirers who keep dropping around to her place.

"Film comes around to my home often, and chats to my husband and the kids. He's their friend. I regard him as a member of my family."

Film was once linked to that famous patron to male stars, Sia Ood. Can't he get enough free goodies?

Ped says she is one of those easy-going types who just likes to help people, although she has never had to part with cash. Recently, when actor Aof was admitted to hospital with a collapsed lung, he needed emergency surgery.

The hospital gave him a discount on the medical bill, but Ped's younger sister, who knew someone at the hospital, was able to arrange an even bigger discount for the young star.

"I try to help people even when we are not close. If someone calls to ask me for something, I'll do whatever I can, because you never know how much longer we'll be here on this earth."

Ped says she knows many young ones, inside the entertainment industry and out, whom she likes to help.

Ped is not the only hi-so benefactor who mixes with the starlet set. Gems dealer Chuchai Chairitthilert also likes to shower gifts on handsome youngsters who take his fancy.

Recently, he gave actor Pasut "Art" Banyaem a hefty discount on a pair of earrings, a gift to his mother. Arty says he regards Mr Chuchai, a gay rags-to-riches businessman, as his idol.

Mr Chuchai also admires television presenter Peerapol "Champ" Euariyakul. Mr Chuchai gave Champ a diamond worth 500,000 baht for his birthday a few months ago, which rekindled inevitable rumours that they are gay. Champ, denying it, says Mr Chuchai is just his "elder brother".

Champ, a self-described metrosexual educated in the US, likes to hold hands and hug his male friends, because it feels natural and good. At Mr Chuchai's 46th birthday party, Champ was pictured hugging and holding hands with his elder friend. He also gave him free shoulder massages.

A question for young actors who like to call on ageing socialites with money and influence: If you were to meet each other on your benefactor's doorstep one day, in an unfortunate clash of appointments, who would get to go in first? And, one for friends of Mr Chuchai: If you go in search of a discount at his gems store, do you call ahead to make sure he'll be there first - or just try your luck?

On the internet, Thais want to know if Mr Chuchai and Ped ever help no-name women from the slums.-
3.
Tol
Academy Fantasia singer Wantongchai "Tol" Intarawat needs practice in how to chat up women, judging by recent failed efforts involving model Natalie Davis.

Natalie told the media Tol had put the flirts on her recently - but she rebuffed his tepid efforts to come across as caring and interested in her welfare.

Natalie was at a function where a man she had worked with years before asked for her phone number. She gave it to him in the hope it would lead to more work. The number ended up with someone else.

That night, she was heading home when Tol - a youngster whom she barely knows - called. "It's Tol, from Academy Fantasia," he said proudly. "I saw you at that function today. Are you home safely yet?"

Lame! Natalie's boyfriend was travelling with her. No doubt he can see her home safely. Natalie didn't want trouble with a potentially jealous boyfriend, so told Tol not to call unless it was important.

Tol claims he was just playing with her, not trying to flirt. Still, at least he's interested in a woman. Previously, the media had the AF4 runner-up pigeon-holed as gay.
