Oxford Uni mix-up, Dome in with a chance, Ta's eyes on ball

Pu
Model Priya "Pu" Suandokmai is unhappy with media reports suggesting she is studying at prestigious Oxford University in England, when in fact she is studying at a lesser-known private university with a similar name nearby.

Pu, who has been studying at Oxford Brookes University, a former technical school, recently returned to Thailand for a short break. After catching up with gossip on the internet, a teary Pu told Thai Rath newspaper she was distressed by suggestions she had deliberately sown confusion over the university's name.

At the time she left, Thais wondered how Pu could have gained entry to world-leader Oxford, as they didn't know she was that studious or bright. Pu did not bother to correct them.

More recent reports compare her to (bona fide) Oxford-educated prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

"On the internet, people say I have been unwilling to reveal the name of my real university because I'm ashamed. I want to say that I am proud to study overseas, wherever it is.

"The reason I have said nothing is that I don't want my university to get in the news through my actions. Its rules are strict and they could throw me out if I attract attention to myself."

Pu declares she is now single, after breaking up several months ago with socialite Prakasit "Pat" Pornprapha. However, she has found new admirers at Oxford Brookes.

Dome, Ploy

Playboy actor Pakorn "Dome" Lum insists he has a chance of rekindling his relationship with actress Cherman "Ploy" Boonyasak - despite her mother's insistence that it's all over.

"Dome and Ploy have no chance of a return - confirm, 100%!" said Ploy's mum, Chalida "Maem" Nilpirom.

Dome has tried to make up with Ploy since they parted, although he has been seen around town with two other women since - a tertiary student called Bow and a model called Mew.

Ploy herself has been seeing Grammy singer Pichaya "Golf" Nitipaisalkul, but insists they are just friends.

Ploy's mum reckons Dome is a self-promoter who tramples on the dignity of women.

"He will say anything to make himself look good, without considering how it affects the woman in his life.

"I have only just bumped into him escorting a girl to Wat Luang Por Sothorn in Chachoengsao," she told Thai Rath newspaper.

"They were walking hand in hand. I said: 'Oh, you've come to pray to Buddha ... so do you have an album coming out?"'

She suggested Dome turned up at the temple with the girl so he could get himself in the news.

"I told my daughter that I had spotted Dome with the girl. Ploy called him to ask who he had taken to the temple, which made him squirm even more. He's slipped up so many times. He insists he is just friends with these girls, that there's nothing to it.

"But my daughter is the kind of girl who, if she loves a man, loves him with all her heart."

Dome confirms that he met Ploy's feisty mum at the temple, but insists their exchange was amicable.

"She wished me the best for the New Year, and for my new album. My friend Mew heard I was going to the temple, and asked to tag along. We went in a large group - certainly not as a couple," he told the newspaper.

Dome insists he is still on good terms with Ploy, despite the Mew temple sighting. "I have been out with Mew only twice, but I call Ploy often. On a recent trip to Hong Kong, she bought me a bag, and a new mattress for my sore back," he said.

"I am not seeing these girls just to spite Ploy. I believe if two people do not get along, they should say so - then they can start looking for someone else."

On the internet, Thais are tut-tutting over photos which have emerged of Nong Mew, a former Miss Sabina Doom Doom Girl contestant who, according to some reports, has a child from a previous relationship.

Pictures from her Hi5 site show a girl draping herself on a bed in what looks like a hotel room. Others show her in a bathing costume, playing with the lace of her bra, and sucking on her finger provocatively. "What's Thailand coming to?' one reader sniffed. "Is that her bedroom, or a short-stay motel?"-

Someone's playing with actor Warit "Ta" Tipkomuth's "anaconda" when he has his eye off the ball.

Ta is a hero of the gay set after playing gay roles on television. He plays the part of a gay man in two recent soap operas, Botun Kleep Sut Thai, and Burnt Sugar.

Strange men have started calling him in the middle of the night, wanting to play sex phone. After a game of football with friends in the provinces, fans mobbed him.

Men who join the throng make a grab for his private bits, or "anaconda", as one Thai gossip rag put it.

Ta says his admirers work too fast for him to catch them. He is taking precautions but says their interest in him persists.

In a television interview, Ta joked that at present he likes men because he has yet to meet any decent women. That upset some women viewers, who thought he was scorning them. Far from it - his male fans are just showing an unusual degree of interest.

Ta admits that some male fans might be taking his gay parts too seriously. "They think I have become one of them," he said. "Before, I used to get phone calls only from women. Now I get them from men who pant and puff on the phone.

"I used to wonder if there really were men who called guys and asked for this, want that. Now I know that such strange things really do happen."
