Model on back foot again
Sarah |
Italian-Thai model Sarah Casinghini is fighting a losing battle as she seeks to persuade her former partner, actor Pirat “Mike” Nitipaisankul, to carry on paying support for their six year-old son, after she revealed she now had a second child by a young Ukrainian model.
Sarah scored a dramatic own goal last week as she discussed with the media her battle with Mike who launched a high-profile legal bid last month to gain rights as father and joint custody over their child, Maxwell.Mike |
Confirming earlier rumours she had started a new family, she revealed she now had an infant daughter by a Ukrainian model, Vadim, 20, who works in China. She gave birth to their child, Emily, two months ago. Vadim has yet to meet the child as he is stuck in China during Covid-19.
Sarah said the pair had discussed marriage but their original plan to tie the knot in February had to be postponed after the coronavirus broke out. She denied reports later in the week that he had tried to flee the relationship and was not interested in supporting the child.
Sarah admitted she had kept the child’s birth a secret last month when her legal spat with Mike erupted, though claims she was worried about the implications of the legal row so said nothing.
Hours after Sarah’s revelation that she had started a new family, Mike declared on social media he was withdrawing his legal bid to be recognised as Maxwell's father, which frees him from any obligation to send any support.

He said he wanted to be sure that his money actually gets to Maxwell, and in future would deposit money in a savings account which he would hand over when Maxwell comes of age. He would no longer send Sarah money every month though she could still ask for help with Maxwell’s upkeep if she needs it.
The news sent Sarah and her lawyer scrambling as they face the prospect that Mike’s support will dry up. While Sarah has maintained she is happy to raise Maxwell as a single mum, she has complained that Mike has cut her support and urged Sarah to find a cheaper school for Maxwell, who attends an international school.
When Mike launched his legal bid last month, she also unveiled a list of six demands in which she asked Mike to increase his financial support even as he asked to cut his payments as his income had dried up during Covid.
She admitted last week she launched the demands out of anger at his decision to take legal action. The move backfired, however, as critics said she was holding the child hostage to extract more money from Mike. The actor said Sarah is happy to take his money but curbs his access to the child.
Public opinion shifted dramatically against Sarah when she issued the demands, including that he boost his monthly transfers to her account from 30,000 baht to 50,000 baht and buy the boy an apartment in Bangkok.
Mike last month asked the Central Juvenile and Family Court to recognise his legal rights as the boy’s father, a move opposed by Sarah, who said Maxwell should decide what he wants when he is older. Maxwell lives with Sarah’s family in Phuket.
Sole parental rights belong to Sarah as the boy was born out of wedlock. Thai law defaults to the mother in such cases, meaning the father, while not legally recognised as such, is not obliged to pay for the child’s upkeep either.
Despite that, Mike’s celebrity lawyer Nitithorn “James” Kaewto said Mike has transferred 2.9 million baht in financial support to Sarah since the child’s birth. When school fees and other expenses are included the total comes to more than 10 million baht.
Reeling after the drubbing she received last time, Sarah has now changed lawyers, and scrapped her demands, adding it is up to Mike what he gives. Her new lawyer, Pramarn Laungwattanawanich, also urged Mike to reconsider his decision to abandon court action, saying he could still ask for legal rights as father while scrapping his claim for joint custody.
“In fact, there’s no reason the two can’t agree among themselves without the need for the courts. He could agree to keep sending support while leaving custody with Sarah as the mother,” he said hopefully.
Maxwell might think ill of him when he gets older and discovers Mike had stopped paying for his education out of anger that Sarah had started a new family, he said. Mike, meanwhile, insisted he would withdraw the legal papers, out of fear the row would affect their child.

Tide |
Actor and volunteer rescue worker Ekkapun “Tide” Bunluerit has urged the law to step in after he fell victim to the pleadings of a con artist who staged a fake suicide attempt from a city overbridge last week.
Tide and his brother Bin, known for handing out cash to the poor and needy, last week gave 3,000 baht to a young man who threatened to throw himself from an overbridge in Thawi Watthana. The man, who claims he was a builder, spun a tale saying his wife had left him and taken 4,000 baht he had saved to get himself treated for epilepsy. He decided to take his own life to ease his stress.

Earlier, postman Terachai Rodtubtim posted a clip of him helping the stricken builder. He was heading home from work on Oct 3 when he came across the man preparing to throw himself from the bridge, close to soi 68 on Borommaratchachonnani Road.
Mr Terachai said that with the rescue workers' help, he managed to talk the man down from his suicide bid, though he says their efforts were not aided by bystanders on the road below who kept calling on the builder to “Jump!"
“You shouldn’t carry on like that as one day someone truly in distress might indeed jump,” he wrote on Facebook.
Later in the week, news had emerged that the man, who took Tide's money, had staged a similar “suicide” bid in Chai Nat province the next day. On this occasion, locals did a whip-around and raised 4,500 baht which he pocketed as the proceeds of his misdeeds. Tide said he had heard the man had staged four or five similar “suicide” bids previously to raise money for himself.
The episode recalls a similar one in June when police said they were seeking an arrest warrant against Orasa Praipreuk, 32, from Roi Et, who also claimed she wanted to take her life. She threatened to jump from a four-storey building at Prae technical college, only for locals to talk her down. They handed her 3,000 baht to help her make a new start. Later, news emerged she had staged seven previous “suicide” attempts in various provinces, pocketing money from sympathetic locals each time.
Asked about the latest incident, Tide said he felt disheartened that the man would waste his time and dupe him out of money which was intended for the needy. He urged other victims to come forward and lay complaints with police.

Boom, Moo Ta |
A young man who looks after models is an overnight star on the internet after taking in a stray dog he found at a Thai bar-b-que (moo kra ta) eatery.
Yutthaphum “Boom” Kaewekhem decided to adopt the street dog, whom he has named Moo Ta after their first "date", after having too much to drink at the eatery on Oct 3 and bundling the dog into his car.
He and the dog had bonded over his meal which he shared with a friend and he decided to take the animal home. His friend filmed the incident and posted it to Facebook.
The next day, Boom woke to find himself cuddling the dog, who had patiently stayed with him all night. “How did he get here?” he asked in a clip, having evidently forgotten about the “dog napping” incident the night before.
His friend, who woke him with the news he had taken what they suspected was someone else’s dog, urged him to return it in case the owner discovered it missing. Back at the eatery, however, Boom discovered the dog was actually one of three or four strays who hang around the shop looking for scraps of food.
Later that day, he returned with a meal of fried pork and chicken liver for the dog to apologise for the night before. The next day, he returned again with an “engagement present” — a dog collar, lead and other items for raising a dog. Moo Ta leapt into his arms as soon as he put the collar on him and their love was sealed.
At the urging of his followers on Facebook, who were enthralled by the tale, Boom decided to adopt the animal. Later he took it to the vet, gave it a wash and visited a celebrity known for caring for stray dogs and cats, Chollada "Kae" Mekratree. Boom said he hoped Moo Ta’s tale would lead to other sympathetic Thais coming forward to adopt homeless animals. Boom said many fans, noticing he lives in a smart, modern home, had asked what work he does. He revealed he is an assistant to various top-line models, among them Atthama “Bowie” Chiwanitchaphan.
Joking about Boom’s newfound fame as owner of celebrity dog Moo Ta, who has appeared wearing shades, pearls, and a lace bow in recent posts as the dog gets comfortable in his new home, Bowie said she hardly dares to imagine the young man whom she once regarded as her mere assistant was Boom. “I don’t dare use him as my assistant any more. When Boom turned up the other day and joked that he had come to cart me off, the way he did the dog, I replied: Don’t even think about it!”
By week’s end Boom had taken Moo Ta on a work trip to Phitsanulok, asking in a FB post if the dog would stand in as substitute driver if he needed a break. Boom’s followers, meanwhile, had jumped to more than 120,105, thanks largely to his romantic doggy tale, with fans asking him to set up his own fan page for Moo Ta.
