Kitti’s squalid affair, Sornram’s taxi mishap, Toy’s no plaything

Actor’s love or money dilemma
'Tide' and Kitti Klinkliang
Veteran actor Kitti Klinkliang, found abandoned in his Nonthaburi home amid a pile of rubbish late last year, could end up back in the same plight now he has decided to go back to his uncaring and money-hungry wife, says a rescue worker.

Ekapan “Tide” Bunluerit, who found Kitti, 67, at a run-down home in the province’s Sai Noi district last November amid piles of rotting garbage, unable to walk or look after himself, has also warned his wife to stop causing mischief.

When Tide found him last year, Kitti, also known as Kitti Datsakorn, was living amid the squalor with his wife, Datsakorn “Kitty” Sasiprapa, 28, who initially claimed falsely she was a relative, and their two children.

Kitty, he said, barely cared for the actor but made a public appeal for donations on social media, from which she later helped herself to 80,000 baht.

Tide, head of volunteers for the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, turned up at the house after hearing the actor needed help.  After cleaning the house of rubbish he sent Kitti, who has diabetes, to hospital, and alerted the public to his plight.

Kitty, meanwhile, retreated to her family home in Hua Hin after Tide complained to police about her unauthorised withdrawal of donations from Kitti’s account.

Moved by Tide’s mercy bid to save his older actor friend, the public sent in donations to a new account which Tide, a close friend and local kamnan set up in Kitti’s name to help him get back on his feet.

After months of hearing no news, Tide said he was shocked when Kitti called recently to declare he had decided to go back to his former wife, after swearing he would avoid her.

Kitti, who has been under the care of his elder sister in Bangkok since being discharged, recently rented a place in Pathum Thani with Kitty, and has plans to start a home with her in Hua Hin on land partly donated by the young woman’s mother, Tide said.

“If he goes back to her, I worry he will end up I the same state I found him last time — uncared for, and unable to look after himself,” Tide said.

He and his two associates who helped save the actor from squalor had been forced to close the account and transfer the 209,500 baht in donations remaining to Kitti after he insisted he wanted to look after the money himself.

“He claimed they were infringing on his rights because they wouldn’t give him money every time he asked for it.

“He also threatened to lay a police complaint claiming P’ Amata, one of my associates and an actor who first alerted me to Kitti’s plight, stole some cheap necklaces and a watch from the house when we cleaned it up.  We took photographs of all his possessions so know it can’t be true.”

Tide said he was sure Kitty was behind the fabricated theft complaint, and also the requests for money from Kitti’s account. She had repeatedly asked Kitti’s elder sister for money when he was staying with her in Bangkok.

“I would like to warn Kitty not to cause trouble for anyone else, or it will come back and haunt her,” Tide said.

During a televised interview with Tide on Thursday, Kitti phoned in to the studio to claim Amata also had made advances on his wife.  Scoffing at the claim, Tide said Amata loathes Kitty and it would never happen.

“Kitty is an expert in making up stories to cause mischief for others, and Kitti is gullible enough to fall for them,” he said.

Backing down, Kitti admitted he made the claims against Amata because he wouldn’t let him have access to the donated money.

Tide said Kitti had recently spent a month with his wife at their rented place. When he returned to the care of his elder sister in Bangkok, he looked just as thin and haggard as when he rescued him last year.

“That’s because she doesn’t care for him, or let him take his medicine,” he said.

Kitti’s elder sister, Pa Jazz, said she now looks after the donated funds in a joint account with Kitti.

She said her brother is still unable to walk properly and needs help to perform basic functions.

Kitty, who paid occasional visits with their youngest child, had asked for money, but she was sparing in what she gave.

The unfolding drama also threatens to poison relations with Kitti’s elder brother, actor Dam, who last week renewed his vow to cut ties with Kitti if he went back with his wife.

Cab driver picks fight
 Sornram 'Bank' Aneklap
A likay singer has defended his decision to expose an errant taxi driver on social media, saying he hopes the episode serves as a lesson that the public deserves better service.

Sornram Aneklap, also known as Sornram Nampetch, said he and his younger sister last week hailed a taxi from their condo in Bang Khae, heading for Bumrungrad hospital in Sukhumvit.

However, the driver objected to his sister playing music on her phone and ejected them before they reached their destination. He let them out close to the Saphan Taksin BTS station, and refused their offer of payment.

Sornram said the driver complained about the noise and initially turned up the radio news to compete with the music from the phone.

Later, the clip shows the driver parked by the BTS when he asked them to get out and take the train instead. “I can’t concentrate on my driving with all that noise,” he complained.
He refused their offer of payment and is seen throwing the money out the door as Sornram’s sister leaves the cab. He speeds off before the door is closed.

The clip met a mixed response on social media. While some netizens agreed the driver was wrong to order them out, others took the driver’s side. “We only know part of what went on. You must have really upset him if he refused a 100 baht fare,” said one.

Sornram said the driver treated them poorly, as if they had asked him for a free ride. “When you get in a taxi these days, do you have to stay quiet? In that case a notice asking passengers not to play music would have helped,” he said.

“We don’t mean ill-will. I hope it serves as lesson to taxis that the public deserves better.”
Sukree Jarupoom, head of inspectors for the Department of Land Transport, agreed. After publicity over the ill-fated ride, the driver, Sammai Jomthom, was called in and fined 400 baht for his conduct. He must also take a three-hour primer on how to treat passengers better.

Singer loath to smile
Thanwa 'Toy' Bunsungnoen
Singer Thanwa “Toy” Bunsungnoen is defending his frozen-face look when he poses for pictures with fans, denying he is putting on artistic airs.

News media last week ran images of young star Toy, who had just finished a concert in Pattaya, posing for pictures with fans in which he could not bring himself to crack a smile. They show him frozen faced and wearing the same expression throughout.

On social media, fans asked in jest if it was the real Toy in the images, or if he had asked fans to pose with a “standee” (cardboard cutout figure) instead.

Toy, lead singer of the band the Toys, and a rising talent in the industry, said he wasn’t putting on artistic airs. “Nor am I afraid that if I smile, I will lose my good looks,” he said.

“After finishing the concert I hopped in the van for a sleep. When I woke I had to stand and pose for pictures with a hundred fans. I was still groggy with sleep and the photographer was snapping pictures very quickly.

“I am actually really friendly, as all my fans know. If you ask me to smile, I will,” he said.

By week’s end, fans had unearthed a picture of Toy playing with his girlfriend by the seaside, in which he is wearing a wide grin as she hitches a ride on his back. “Perhaps he saves up his smiles for her,” they joked.
