Singer 'was wearing underwear'
Country music star Nipaporn "Kratae" Paeng-ouan denies she is
peddling sex in her music, as critics highlighted raunchy scenes from a
new music video in which she splits her legs.Kratae R-Siam, as she is known, last week fronted the media with an executive from her music label, RS, to plead with netizens not to capture frames from the MV and circulate them on social media.
Unkind netizens have taken still grabs from her MV, Flick, in which Kratae and a troupe of young male dancers set down fast-paced moves in the Latin and ballroom style.
They show Kratae lying on her side, thrusting one leg in the air. Critics have asked if she was wearing underwear. Kratae, who brought her dress and underwear before reporters for their inspection, insists she was wearing plenty of protection.
It was skin-coloured, so hard to see, she said.
The head of RS's music division, Supachai "Nen" Nilwan, who accompanied her to the media briefing, said music is about movement, so some still shots will inevitably appear indecent if critics look close enough.
"Instead of looking at her dance steps or energy and commitment as a dancer, they zoom in on her crotch and focus on her moves where she splits her legs," he complained.
Mr Nen said he thought up Kratae's dance moves himself and knew they were not trying to exploit indecent images to help the song sell. "We wanted to show how her dancing has progressed to a new stage," he said.
He denied critics' claims that RS was slow to counter the spread of the indecent images.
"Contrary to what the critics say, we didn't sit idly by. We quickly made changes to the YouTube video, blurring out the crotch shots. For the TV version, we have edited out the scenes altogether," he said.
"The dancing style was similar to a swimming or gymnastic competition. Some Latin-style carnival dancing is sexier than this, but we toned it down to suit our artists," he said, adding more than 100 people were involved in the shoot.
"If we had wanted to peddle those images, pictures would have leaked from the outset."
Displaying her dress and underwear to reporters, Kratae said she wore three layers of "support", including the dress.
"I was wearing underwear for sure ... the dance moves were severe, especially when I split my legs," she said.
"As I was dancing I was checking the camera monitor, but it is small, and I was mainly looking at the other dancers. We filmed from 7am one day to 4am the next.
"I feel disappointed by the criticism, as we tried hard to make this video work." -
2. Petjah left out in the cold
Actress Hansa "Newclear" Jungviwattanawong is refusing to to go back on her decision to quit with her long-time boyfriend, Wichian "DJ Petjah" Kusolmanomai, despite his daily attempts to win back her affections.
Newclear last week declared their six-year relationship was at an end, after Petjah committed a transgression at a recent wedding. While she has not spelled out what took place, Newclear hints he was less than loyal, and alcohol played a part.
While Newclear has told him it's over, she says Petjah has yet to accept the decision.
"He's still trying to make up to me, but I have blocked his number and Line account. I don't want to talk to him or see him again," she declared.
"Everyone has limits. It may not be as bad as him two-timing with someone else, but it's something many woman would not accept. He drank too much and lost his senses. I regret the past five or six years; we were close to marrying, too.
"My family is hurting to see me cry. They feel sad, as they love him very much."
In the first day of what could be a long-running public appeasement ritual, Petjah later sent Newclear a bunch of balloons to the opening of a soap opera she was attending. Messages on the balloons declared he was sorry and still loves her.
A day later, he sent a song along to the gym where she practises yoga, pleading for forgiveness.
Newclear permitted herself a smile, but said her decision remains the same.
Earlier, Petjah wrote about himself on social media in the third person, asking for another chance.
"Be angry first if you like, as he has done no good, but please get over it. He realises he did wrong now. From a boyfriend whose behaviour is faulty, but would like to make amends," he said.
Opening up about their problems on Friday, Petjah told the media he would try to think up some new way to appease his lover every day until she relents.
Newclear, meanwhile, admits she still loves Petjah, even if she is still upset about what happened. "Of course I love him. It's because I love him so much that this saga hurts so much," she said. -
3. Keeping abreast of fashion
Amie |
Ma |
Amie, known for her large breasts and relationship with a renegade former boyband singer, said she can tolerate attacks on her fashion sense, but not her breasts or her social status.
She was speaking out after outspoken fashion critic Ornapa "Ma" Krisdee attacked a dress which Amie wore to the recent Dara Daily awards as misshapen and lacking any sense of style.
"She's mad. The cutting is awful. The shoes are the wrong colour, and the pleated thing in front looks like a loin cloth. Her breasts are way too big, so everything is out of proportion," Ma declared on television.
"So you think your breasts are beautiful, do you?" she asked acidly.
Amie, a former Miss Maxim beauty contestant who had her breasts enlarged with 700cc silicone implants in mid-2014, called the media to reject the claims, saying Ma, whom she respects as an industry figure, had gone too far.
"She claimed my dress is disgusting, which is too strong a word for a dress. My outfit is not rubbish, and I am not a rubbish person," Amie said. As an adult, Ma should observe limits to her criticism.
Last year Amie was forced to declare she has two children by different lovers, after a model outed her on social media. She is also known for her relationship with a tearaway singer Howard Wang, deported from Thailand a few years ago on drugs charges.
Amie admits the dress, which she designed herself about 10 years ago, was a rough job. It was not an expensive outfit, as she cannot afford to spend up big on hi-so outfits like Ma.
"I have often said I am not wealthy. If I am forced to wear dresses or jewellery which friends lend me, rather than buying them myself, it's because I have commitments. I work hard so I can send my kids to school overseas. On top of that, I have more than 10 family members to support at home," she said.
Amie said she was also upset that Ma criticised her breast size.
"Amie Maxim is all about the breasts ... that's my concept. I put my chest first, because I know I can't compete on my looks. I don't walk on the red carpet naked. If I show daring images of myself, I want to do it with a touch of class," she said.
"I didn't enlarge my breasts for just any man in Thailand, but Howard, and he likes them."
