Just face the music, Anna’s stalemate, time to come clean

Ae adjusts to life behind bars
Nantida, Pleng and Ae in happier days
Singer Nantida Kaewbuasai says her ex-husband, millionaire Chonsawat "Ae" Asavahame, is coming to terms with life as an inmate at Samut Prakan central prison, where the provincial strongman is serving time for election fraud.

Nantida and the couple’s daughter, actress and singer Nong Pleng, visited Ae in jail last week, where she says he looked bright enough, given the circumstances.

"We asked how he was. He has his stressed moments, but that's natural enough," she said.
"He says he is learning to adjust. I told him to take it as it comes, and think of it as boarding school."

The Supreme Court earlier this month sent Ae, former chairman of the Samut Prakan Provincial Administrative Organisation, to jail for 18 months, upholding a conviction for cheating in the 1999 Samut Prakan municipal elections.

Nantida, who divorced Ae many years ago after 10 years of marriage, said the two remain friends and regard his jail term as part of a journey they must share.

Their daughter, Pleng, 18, remains close to her dad, which helps keep them together.

Nantida admits some critics wonder why she feels the need to support Ae. His father, former deputy interior minister Vatana Asavahame, is on the run from a corruption conviction.

"Some ask why, even though he’s in jail, I still have to take care of him. Well, we are good friends and feel a sense of kinship," she said.

"Pleng and her father are very close. For that reason, anything which makes us happy at this time is something we should pursue.

"Nong Pleng understands and accepts her father’s plight.

"When they meet, both sides give each other a boost. Her father urges Pleng to study and work as hard as she can."

On her Instagram late last week, Pleng sent a message of love to her dad. "There's no step in the life of this child which this man and his daughter do not take together," she wrote.

Nantida admitted she was shocked when she heard her ex-husband, who has a history of scrapes with the law, was going to jail.

Ae married actress and model Janie Thienphosuwan in August 2013 after a furtive five-month romance. Despite public criticism of the pairing, Nantida stuck by him even then, insisting her former husband deserved a chance at happiness.

Ae and Janie were together barely 12 months. The Supreme Court sent Ae to jail on Aug 8, virtually a year to the day after he and Janie divorced.

The actress filed to end their marriage days after pictures of a woman bearing Janie's likeness, bruised and beaten, appeared on social media, sparking reports he had beaten her up. Neither Janie nor Ae have discussed their parting.

Nantida, who spoke out about her ex-husband’s jail plight for the first time last week, said she would continue visiting Ae in jail as time allows.

Asked if she had any words of encouragement for Ae, Nantida laughed and said: "We can be strong if we understand each other, and that comes from standing on a foundation of truth.

"As for his term in jail, it's like we have entered boarding school. If we dedicate ourselves to study, we’ll have a journey we can share. This is another phase we’ll get through together." -

2. Compensation talks stall

Anna
Actress Anna Reece says compensation talks with the family of a policeman she killed in a car accident have yet to reach a settlement, with both sides still millions of baht apart.

Anna has been charged with reckless driving causing death after her Mercedes-Benz hit a parked police car close to the motorway in the Prawet area about 3am on June 26, killing the policeman asleep inside it.

The police car
Anna last week met the widow of the man she killed, Lt Noppadol Wongbandit, an inspector with Suphan Buri police, for the first round of compensation talks.

Prawet police, who called in both parties for the meeting, said the two sides met for four hours, but were unable to agree on a deal.

Lt Noppadol’s family initially asked for 7.2 million baht, which they agreed to lower to 6.2 million baht after the talks began.

Anna’s motor vehicle insurance company has paid the family 1.2 million baht, which leaves an outstanding sum of five million baht.

However, Anna has offered just two million baht, which her victim’s family will not accept.
Police have called another meeting for Saturday.

Speaking outside the station, Lt Noppadol’s widow, Chanthana Wongbanthit, 41, said she thought the family’s demand was appropriate.

"My husband had another 15 years left in the workforce and I have two children to bring up. I have to worry about their education, and the mortgage," she said.

Anna said last month she was grateful her victim’s family bears her no ill will.

"At least they don’t think of me as their enemy … that makes me happy," she said, days before she ordained as a nun in the Buddhist faith to make merit for the deceased.

Anna, who was captured on video at the accident scene wailing and hugging her victim’s body, smiled for reporters but said little after the talks. -

Model defends Peter's wife

Ase
Singer and actor Peter Corp Dyrendal, who walked out on his family weeks ago, should come clean and tell his wife where she stands, says his former girlfriend, model Ase Wang.

The Chinese-Malaysian model, who went out with Peter for about four years, has some harsh words for the absentee father, who is facing a public backlash for leaving his wife Ployphan "Ploy" Taveerat at home alone to raise their two children.

"It’s sad news. I feel empathy for his wife, who is being very strong. If it was me, I would have taken off with the kids by now," she said last week.

"He’s quite self-confident in his identity as a star, and likes women who are crazy over his status. I went through a similar ordeal with him about five years ago, and am sorry to see he hasn’t grown up since. He should know that you can’t play around with people’s hearts just because you’re a star," Ase Wang said.

"I would like to tell him to make it clear where his wife stands, not to leave them waiting at home. He’s the head of the family, and should take responsibility."

Ploy set off the furore last month when she posted a message asking when Peter, who had gone absent some weeks before, was thinking of coming home to visit them. The youngest of their children is barely two months old.

Peter, who says he is busy making a big-bike travelling roadshow but insists he does think of home occasionally, has since filed a police complaint for defamation against some of his fiercer internet critics.

He has said little publicly. Nor has he returned to visit his wife, who has given up waiting, but says the children miss their dad.

Last week images surfaced in social media of a man, who media reports suggested was Peter, wearing the imprint of a woman’s shoe on his bare chest.

"I suspect I am not having any problems summoning my hubby back home," boasted an accompanying message, which media reports attributed to model Jutiporn "Mayji" Pongkun, supposedly his latest fling.

Contacted by the media, Mayji denied playing around with Peter. She admits Peter once flirted with her, but insisted they were merely friends and they haven’t spoken since he married Ploy.

"She called me at the start of the year to check up on him and ask about his friends," she said, adding she was able to assure Ploy of her innocence.

Ploy has yet to comment on the latest of Peter's dramas.
