Singing star Suteewan ''Baitoey'' Thaveesin is threatening to quit the industry in the wake of media reports linking her romantically to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, says her boyfriend.
Pattanapol ''DJ Man'' Kunchorn Na Ayutthaya says Baitoey has also talked about breaking up with him, so worried is she about the effect the saga is having on his family.
Unkind netizens _ aware that Baitoey has admitted singing twice for the self-exiled former prime minister at functions overseas _ posted a blurry photograph in which Thaksin is walking hand-in-hand with a young woman, and asked if his companion was her.
Thaksin's partner in the shot is wearing a long-sleeved shirt and black trousers.
Baitoey, known for her sexy micro shorts, went before the media in tears earlier this month to deny it was her in the image, saying she would never wear trousers or a long-sleeved shirt.
The picture appeared during the height of the protests against the amnesty bill, which the government put forward with Thaksin's backing. In the absence of any word from the Thaksin camp, netizens have been busy comparing Baitoey's picture with that of the woman in white and black.
One media outlet last week claimed to have caught out Baitoey in a fib, after it dragged up an image from the past in which she was indeed wearing a long-sleeved shirt, similar to the one worn by the woman in the photograph with Thaksin.
DJ Man said the saga has sapped her spirits.
''She told me she wanted to quit the industry. She's stressed, suffering migraines and has lost weight. I have to talk to her often to keep her spirits up,'' DJ Man said.
''I hate the person who posted that picture and tried to link it to Baitoey. The public was just starting to feel better about her. Previously, many criticised her for wearing provocative clothing.
''She asked me if we should break up.
''I told her no, I'm not about to let her go, because she's part of my family.
''A man should stick by his girlfriend when she's in trouble. We've been together more than a year, and might have to face much worse.
''The critics still aren't happy _ they are digging into her past and have found that she has in fact worn a long-sleeved shirt. Well, who hasn't?
''I can tell from the woman's shape that it isn't Baitoey. As for Mr Thaksin, he won't walk around holding hands with just anyone. I think it's probably his daughter.''
Two weeks since the picture linking Baitoey to Thaksin first appeared, DJ Man says people he knows at the gym still ask him if it's her.
''When they ask such annoying questions, I just want to punch them in the nose, but then I think better of it,'' he said. ''She's just a young woman who wants to earn a living. I can't think of why someone would want to cause her so much harm,'' he said, adding his girlfriend's spirits were slowly starting to lift. -

Actress Pattarida ''Tangmo'' Patcharaweerapong is thumbing her nose at a gesture of forgiveness by former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, whose lawyer earlier threatened to sue her.
| Tangmo |
Tangmo and her former student-activist father took to the anti-amnesty bill protest at Democracy Monument on Nov 5 to criticise fugitive Thaksin, widely seen as the intended beneficiary of the government's blanket amnesty bill, since shot down by the Senate.
Last Sunday, Thaksin's lawyer Winyat Chatmontri said he was gathering evidence with a view to suing outspoken Tangmo.
By Monday, however, he had changed his mind, saying his client Thaksin had decided to give Tangmo another chance. ''She was probably carried away by the occasion and her relative youth, so we won't sue at this time,'' he was quoted as saying.
''However, Tangmo should take this as a warning to be more careful of her words.''
Tangmo, who was spotted at the protests with her boyfriend, singer Pakin ''Tono'' Kumvilaisak, posted a response on Facebook which should leave Thaksin in no doubt about how she feels.
Addressing her remarks to ''trigonometry face'' - a new take on the nickname ''square face'' by which Thaksin is usually known among his critics - Tangmo said she had no intention of apologising.
''I have a boyfriend now, and plenty of bags,'' she said, referring to Thaksin's habit of buying gifts for young women performers who visit him overseas.
She posted a picture of herself in a T-shirt criticising the amnesty bill.
Tangmo has since clarified her comments to the media, denying the handbag remark was aimed at sexy singer Suteewan ''Baitoey'' Thaveesin.
Baitoey told reporters in September that she had performed for the former premier on two occasions, in Hong Kong and Singapore, earning 500,000 baht for each show. She said Thaksin's handlers took her shopping for a brand-name bag while she was there.
Tangmo said she and Baitoey are close, and she said her bag remark wasn't intended as a jibe. ''Thaksin buys bags for everyone, it's just that Baitoey's bag hit the news first,'' she said. -

Ekachai, a famed luk tung singer, opened up last week about his wild days as a schoolboy, when he made two young women pregnant.
He was studying in early secondary school when he left home to rent his own place, he told a TV host.
Both of the women he made pregnant - the first of whom was 10 years his senior - ran way to have their children rather than stay with him.
They found new men and remarried, and one has since died. Ekachai said he managed to track down both children. The first child, a boy, was eight when he learned the identity of his father.
''I saw pictures of me in his room, which he kept simply because he was a fan. He didn't know I was his dad,'' he said.
''His mother was overseas at the time. When she found out I had been in touch, she raced back to Thailand and spirited the child away. They now live in Europe.
''I'm not so worried about him, as he's left school, has a job, and his new father loves him.''
The second child, a girl, lives in the South. ''The people down there know I am her dad, but I haven't revealed my identity to her,'' he said.
Ekachai, who is involved in court action with her family, said he would like to prove his identity as her dad.
The country music singer, who hails from Nakhon Si Thammarat, made the disclosures after media reports linked him to a Thai-Caucasian youngster, Kelvin, aged 11.
They asked whether he was a son from another relationship he was keeping under wraps.

''I support as benefactor many children in the South, and am close to Kelvin, who calls me his second dad.
''I devote myself as a father to these youngsters to make up for the fact I have never been a real dad to my own children,'' he said.
''Kelvin sings, and I would like him to enroll in dance classes, as he could be an entertainer like me one day,'' he enthused.
Referring to his own children, he warned youngsters against rushing into love, as it can lead to disastrous results.
''I regret what happened. We can't correct the past. But I hope I can make enough merit so one day I can meet both of my children.''
