MUAY'S UNHAPPY ABORTION, NOT SINGING IN HARMONY

Muay
Former model Pilawan "Muay'' Ahreerob has been called in for questioning by police after she admitted she underwent an abortion.

Muay told police from the Children and Women's Protection Division last Sunday that her former boyfriend, singer and model Howard Wang, took her to a medical clinic on Sukhumvit Soi 12 on Jan 5 for an abortion.

A day before, Howard spoke in the media for the first time since Muay herself went on television early this year to reveal she had ended her pregnancy.

Speaking in tears from her hospital bed, Muay had said Howard took her against her will. She claimed she underwent the procedure after Howard and his mother decided they did not want the child she was carrying.

Both Howard and Muay could face charges arising from their actions. The law allows abortions only in limited circumstances.

Howard
Howard denies he took Muay against her will. "Neither of us is ready to bring a child into the world,'' he said last weekend.

"I know abortion is wrong, but to claim I forced Muay to go is nonsense. Two parties have to consent.

"I intend to enter the monkhood for two months to make merit in the hope the child's spirit will forgive me,'' Howard said.

Muay, 29, visited a temple in Ayutthaya on Thursday to make merit, and left a message on Facebook saying society should punish men who refuse to take responsibility for their unborn children.

Back-street abortion clinics sprang up because men refused to act like men and face up to what they had done, she said.

Many Thais have criticised Muay for having an abortion. The furore is such that the former Maxim model says she has contemplated suicide.

Muay told police from the Children's and Women's Protection Division that she called Howard on Dec 5, two weeks after discovering she was pregnant.

Howard asked her to his home, where he, his mother and Muay discussed whether to keep the baby.

"His mother said she didn't want me to have the baby, as the child would probably end up without a father,'' Muay said.

Howard's mother believed the couple would have trouble providing a stable home, as their relationship was on the rocks.

Muay laid a complaint with Huai Khwang police in September alleging Howard had assaulted her. She had asked for the return of 100,000 baht that she had loaned Howard to secure bail on an assault matter, only for Howard to thump her left ear, perforating her eardrum.

After Howard begged her forgiveness, she withdrew the complaint, but the couple did not stay together.

Howard is also facing drugs possession charges after police raided his home the month before and found a small stash of marijuana and a marijuana pipe there.

Muay said Howard called on Jan 5 to ask if she had decided whether to keep the baby.

"I told him I was starting to grow bigger, that working was difficult, and my income was drying up,'' she said.

His friends knew of a clinic in town, and early that evening he took her there. "Howard called his mother on the way to the clinic to ask if she was sure that the baby should come out. He and his mother argued all the way to the clinic,'' she said.

Where Howard took her
Clinic staff received them about 5pm, and examined her. They escorted her to an operating room where she lay on a bed for the 10-minute procedure.

"Staff told me to wait in an ante-room for another 10 minutes, and gave me some drugs. The fee was 2,800 baht. Howard kept the ultrasound results,'' she said.

Muay said she felt stressed and had come under pressure from many quarters.

The Children and Women's Protection Division cannot press charges, so referred their report of Muay's testimony to Metropolitan Police Division 2 Commander Saroj Promjaroen.

He sent the case file to Lumpini police, who have visited the clinic twice in the past week.

Officers say the clinic's operating licence is in order, but they cannot find any record of Muay having been there, despite a legal requirement that clinics keep patient records going back five years.

Muay is likely to visit Lumpini police today, after they called her in for questioning. Police are likely to call Howard later. -

Rungreudi
The wife of songwriter Nitipong "Dee'' Hornak is asking a woman who claims she had an affair with her husband to drop a defamation row that has erupted between them.

Rungreudi Hornak says she is seeking legal advice after songwriter Pornrampa Porkran and her husband Thanakorn complained to police last week that she had sent threatening and defamatory SMS messages to them.

However, she said she would rather not counter sue, and is inviting the couple to withdraw their complaint, despite the fact the row has left her reputation in tatters.

The couple told Pracha Chuen police last Sunday that Rungreudi had sent a series of text messages in which she referred to Pornrampa as a fraud, a woman of cheap morals and threatened to put her in hospital for three months if she alerted authorities.

They took along the text messages as evidence, and also unveiled four sound clips that Thanakorn said were conversations between himself and Rungreudi.

"As well as threatening us, she also refers to important figures she knows in the military and police, as if she is trying to pull class rank,'' he said.

Pornampa said she and Dee used to work together for music giant Grammy Entertainment.

When Dee left Grammy last year to set up his own music label, the Union Music, Pornrampa followed. She claims they had an affair.

When Rungreudi found out, she decided it would be better if she left the company.

Thanakorn said the affair ended eight months ago, but Rungreudi assumed his wife and Dee were still seeing each other.

His wife continued to accept freelance work from Dee's company, which triggered Rungreudi's suspicions, he said.

In one clip, the woman said to be Rungreudi accepts the affair between Dee and Pornrampa had ended.

She also agreed to stop sending the texts. "But then they started again,'' he said.

"If Rungreudi still has issues with us, I would rather she came out and we discussed them in the open.''

Pornrampa said she was willing to risk society's judgement by admitting she had an affair with Dee.

"At the moment, I have to ask my husband to accompany me whenever I leave home, as I'm afraid for my safety,'' she said.

"When my husband found out about my affair, we had to start building trust again - but then the phone calls and messages started arriving,'' she said.

Rungreudi, who has said little since the couple laid their complaint, admitted sending text messages, but insisted they were polite.

"Why would I stoop to such a thing? We do have laws in society and I seek redress by that means,'' she told Thai Rath newspaper.

"My husband never had an affair - he's under my gaze constantly,'' she insisted. "The other party behaved inappropriately towards him, and he told her to go.''

In a later interview with the Siam Dara gossip rag, she softened her stance, admitting she sent unpleasant messages, but adding that "not all'' of them were abusive.

She said Thanakorn blamed her for his wife losing her job, and chastised her on the phone.

"She has been paid in full for the rights to her songs, all but for online music. But a day after we made the final payment, they went to the police.

"If the couple were trying to destroy my reputation, they've succeeded, so they may as well withdraw the complaint,'' she said.

Rungreudi is described in media reports as a juror for the Central Juvenile and Family Court in Nonthaburi.

Pracha Chuen police say they will call in Rungreudi for questioning this week.

Ken
Actor and model Phupoom "Ken'' Pongpanu is gritting his teeth after an outspoken director claimed he had two nose jobs and had grown too big for his boots.

Poj Anon told a television show last week in which he is co-host that Ken, formerly known as Adiphong "BellBell'' Pongpanu, was in danger of forgetting himself.

Poj cast BellBell, as he was then known, to play supporting roles in two of his movies, including the transvestite ghost comedy Hor Taew Taek 2.

He said the young actor, who was once a member of his talent stable, now denied he ever appeared in the movie, which was wrong.

He had also sought two nose jobs, and changed his name twice, so keen was he to make his mark, he told a cable TV show.

Poj also claimed that when he visited a department store recently and saw Ken there, Ken refused to make eye contact.

Asked about the remarks, Ken denied ever having plastic surgery, or trying to erase the fact that he had acted in Poj's campy films.

"I have never denied appearing in Pee Poj's films. All I ever said was that I acted my first big role in another title,'' he said.

He also denied Poj's claim that he refused to acknowledge the director at the department store. "I didn't see him,'' he insisted.

The young actor admitted to having changed his name from BellBell to Ken, after his manager, Supachai "A'' Sriwichit, took his name to a fortune teller, who advised that a name change would bring him good luck.

Asked whether he could work with Poj again, Ken said he was happy to work with everyone, as he respected all senior figures in the industry.

"I don't want to call Pee Poj to clear the air, as I don't want to bother him,'' he said.
