STAY AWAY, BAR FRACAS, FOLLY OF YOUTH, NO WAY JOSE, NEWHALF?

Champ, Ning
An actress has hounded a would-be socialite and alleged fraudster from an industry event, saying the law is no longer good enough to protect the public from what she calls a common thief.

Panita "Ning'' Pattanahiran scolded Rath "Champ'' Rimpleekul at a film opening after he presented himself before her and declared their past legal troubles were now at an end.

"Get out!'' she told Champ, who stood in the shadows clutching a large handbag, looking morose, as Ning berated him in front of the cameras. He made a quick exit.

She also gave organisers an ultimatum, saying that if he was to show his face at any industry function again, she would leave. "If he had kept his distance, none of this would have happened,'' she told reporters later.

"But he insisted on approaching me and urging me to forget the past.

"How could I forget when he falsely cited my name to exploit people?'' she asked.

Ning, TV presenter "Mor Oiy'' Reungwiriya, and Siripin Music and Dance School head Pinsiri Siripin in August last year laid a complaint with police claiming that Champ had dragged their names into a cable TV venture scheme which they say does not exist.

They say Champ claimed they were shareholders in the scheme. Young people, thinking they would find jobs as presenters, paid to join.

"The law seems powerless to do anything,'' complained Ning.

"Police say victims have to file complaints in whatever district an offence occurs. Yet who will go to all that trouble?

"If the law can't help us, we will have to resort to our own devices,'' she said.

Huai Khwang police in February arrested Champ on charges that he duped wannabe stars into believing dance and acting lessons at his ``school'' would help their chances of success.

Police said youngsters who paid course fees of 5,000-6,000 baht each, but had yet to find any work, had laid complaints at police stations as far apart as Bang Phongphang and Pathumwan.

In September, engineer Tul Hempatawee, 23, laid a complaint with Sutthisan police claiming Champ had defrauded him of 9,000 baht for a singing and dancing course.

Tul said Champ failed to deliver on his promise. When he asked for a refund, Champ failed to return the money as agreed. -

Man, Chinpat
A singer is defending his conduct in a bar fight which left his adversary with serious facial wounds.

Pattanapol "Man'' Minthakin, a music video actor and Academy Fantasia 4 contestant, is facing assault charges after he allegedly thrust a glass into the face of Chinpat Hiransinsoonthorn, son of a Chinese-language newspaper editor, in a Thong Lor pub two weeks ago.

Chinpat's father and elder brother last week laid a complaint with Thong Lor police, after the Oct 30 fight left Chinpat with facial injuries that required 20 stitches. Two of his teeth were also broken.

Initial reports said the two were fighting over a woman, but Man denies this.

He said he was sitting at a table with a woman he barely knew when the complainant asked to join them.

The pair started arguing and Chinpat hit him three times. He thrust the glass at him to defend himself, but suffered a torn wrist tendon in the process, which cost almost 90,000 baht in medical bills to treat.

Man said he would fight the case, but is waiting for a police summons for questioning.

Chinpat's brother said Man had made contact through relatives offering an apology, and had sent a bouquet of flowers.

However, he had yet to make contact personally, which spurred his family to take legal action. -

Howard, his Mum
Former RS Promotion singer Howard Wang has shelved plans to buy a house for his mother after a spate of legal troubles resulted in the industry shunning him.

Howard, who opened up before the media last week, said he had lost so much work since he fell foul of the law that he would have to postpone the house purchase plans, which saddened him.

"I was a tearaway when I was young, and my most recent problems have not helped. All my relatives in my home country of Taiwan know about them.

"I have apologised to my mother, and my former girlfriend too,'' he said.

Howard's former girlfriend, model Pilawan "Muay'' Ahreerob, 28, in September laid assault and illegal detention charges against him.

Muay told Huai Khwang police she had asked for the return of 100,000 baht which she loaned him to secure bail on an assault matter, only for Howard to thump her left ear.

The assault case came a month after police found a small stash of marijuana in his wardrobe.

Howard spent the night in jail after Drug Crime Suppression Division police raided his Huai Khwang home after suspecting it was serving as a gathering place for illicit drug parties.

Prosecutors have presented his drug case to the Bangkok South Criminal Court.

Howard said last week that while the legal trouble and his loss of work were setbacks, he was determined to start his life anew. "I have returned the money I borrowed from Muay, and would like to honour my mother for her sacrifices by entering the monkhood.

"The problem with my girlfriend was just a minor one. But because I wasn't prepared to face up to it, it became much bigger.

"I want to say sorry to her too, because I wasn't much good to her while we were together. I have my father's flirtatious streak,'' he said.

"I'm not brave enough to think the industry will give me a second chance. If it doesn't, I'll just have to face the truth, and start again.

"But if it it does, I'm determined to turn over a new leaf,'' he said. -

Comedian Sudarat "Tukky'' Butrprom, above, can't see the humour in the hit song Itchy Ear, saying she has turned down 10,000 baht to perform it.

Tukky says she objects to the raunchy dance moves that accompany the song.

"I'm against this song, perhaps because I'm a woman, but also because I'm Thai,'' she said, while acknowledging it was still a legitimate option for some performers.

The song, made famous by Nongphanee "Ja Turbo'' Mahadthai, has done a roaring trade on YouTube. Ripe with sexual innuendo, it includes scenes of Ja Turbo grasping her crotch. "I will accept almost any role, but I won't dance this one,'' Tukky said.

"Someone offered me 10,000 baht to perform it, but I am not interested. I am also scared of what my mother would say,'' she added. -

Yoshiki, Benz
Two Channel 3 presenters have apologised on behalf of co-presenter Pornchita "Benz'' na Songkhla after she likened the lead singer of the Japanese rock band X Japan to a ladyboy (newhalf in Japan).

Sorayuth Suthasanajinda and co-presenter and comedian Koti Aramboy have apologised for Benz's remarks on Tuesday, which set off a storm of criticism on webboards.

"I don't know Yoshiki, and I'm not criticising, but he looks like a ladyboy, doesn't he?'' Benz said not once, but twice on Channel 3s Ruang Lao Chao Nee.

Yoshiki Hayashi and his band had just arrived in Bangkok for a one-night concert (see above).

Yoshiki had also presented a donation of 500,000 baht to help with the flood relief effort.

Offering an apology on Benz's behalf the next day, Sorayuth and Koti said the presenter did not mean to cause any offence.

She had already said sorry herself on Twitter and Facebook, said Koti.
