SAUCY CYRIL VANISHES, SMILE PLEASE, COFFEE SHOP PEST

Cyril, Marsha
Singing star Marsha Vadhanapanich says she should have checked the credentials of an alleged fraudster who worked as her producer for six months.

Marsha last week lodged an extortion case against the man, identified as Cyril Rouhani (aka Cyril Sear, Cyril Marsura), who contacted her late last year, offering to help her produce her new album.

"I did not carry out any checks, because I thought he was the real thing. It was only later that people started to warn me, and I decided to stop working with Cyril. I have since lost contact with him,'' she said outside the Nonthaburi Court.

Marsha is taking action against Cyril and his alleged accomplice, Pattathorn Saengjansri, after the pair claimed compensation from her for alleged breach of copyright. A civil complaint for defamation is likely to follow.

Cyril and Marsha worked together on her first solo album, Alive, and registered a company, Marsha Productions, in Nonthaburi.

It is Marsha's first venture since leaving the Grammy Entertainment label, where she spent 20 years.

Marsha said she was taking action to clear her name of suggestions that she did anything wrong. She did not say whether she had lost money as a result of her partnership with Cyril.

An internet search turns up a Cyril Rouhani who is allegedly wanted in the US and Thailand, and appears to have several arrest warrants for fraud. A website, "Cyril Rouhani - Catch the Con'', asks alleged victims to come forward with details of his exploits.

The blog author says Cyril has a known associate, a Thai woman who identifies herself as Dalina Chirathivat (aka Dalina Promphan).

The blog contains messages from a handful of alleged victims, including one who says Cyril defrauded him of US$170,000 (5.14 million baht) when he worked in Thailand for a high-end motorcycle dealership.

It contains pictures of Cyril and his Thai woman friend, his passport photograph and copies of arrest warrants obtained against him.

Cyril's representative, Ms Pattathorn, turned up at the Crime Suppression Division early this month, claiming to represent Sony Music Europe on his behalf.

She said Marsha breached copyright with a song from her album, I'm Back, released this month.

She said Cyril helped Marsha produce the album, and was suing her for 100 million baht after she refused to stop its distribution.

Sony Music, however, has checked its books, and said it has no professional relationship with Cyril. Nor did it know Ms Pattathorn, 33.

Sony Music Thailand general manager Pattara Butsarawong denied Sony was suing Marsha for breach of copyright, despite claims to the contrary by Ms Pattathorn.

Marsha has insisted the song was hers, and that she has registered the copyright.

Marsha's lawyer, Boonanan Biemphongsan, said Cyril identified himself by a variety of names, and claimed variously that he was a public relations officer for Sony, and an employee of Warner Music.

One email turned up under the letterhead for Sony Electrical Appliances, rather than Sony Music. He claimed various damages, and also seemed unsure about the name of the song at the heart of the row.

The court accepted the case and set the first hearing for July 18. -

Pae, Pancake
The feisty mother of A-list actress Kemanij "Pancake'' Jamikorn has found a new way to deal with reporters' pesky questions about her daughter.

She pulls out her mobile phone, and takes a picture of the reporter.

At a city function last week, a journalist asked her about rumours that Pancake's undeclared love, actor and singer Arak "Pae'' Amornsupasiri, had taken an interest in a transgender model, Treechada ``Poy'' Marnyaporn.

Pancake's mother, Nuannong "Noi'' Jamikorn pulled out her phone and took a picture of the cheeky reporter.

Asked about her mother's reaction, Pancake denied she was unhappy.

"I will answer reporters' questions to the best of my ability. However, some are inappropriate.''

Pancake insisted there was nothing unusual about her mother taking a picture of the reporter.

"People take pictures of me as part of my work all the time,'' she said.

Pancake and Pae have put in a five-star effort in recent weeks to whip up media buzz of their supposed courtship, after they appeared together in a TV soap.

Speculation that their on-screen affair had spilled into a real-life coupling have filled the media - underscored by frequent public appearances and social outings by the couple.

This month, the pair also pose in a revealing spread for Image magazine. Pae said the magazine hired them for a summer-themed shoot, though he claims he did not know he would be asked to go bare-chested. Pancake dons a bathing suit.

The buzz is starting to rebound on the couple. Pae lost his patience with reporters on Thursday, saying he was sick of being dogged by Pancake rumours.

"I appear in public with Pancake more often because we are hired as a couple.

"I have said nothing about wanting to 'eat' Poy Treechada. It's all nonsense,'' he said.

Pancake's doughty mum, meanwhile, is never shy to swing in behind her daughter.

A couple of years ago, she protested at a function in Chiang Mai when her daughter was asked to pose repeatedly for photographs with guests. Mum was worried all the pictures would tire her daughter.

They walked out in a huff after having words with the organiser, who paid her airfare to appear.

"If this was a charity event such as the Red Cross fair, I would have no complaints, but this was a private function,'' said Mrs Nuannong.

They treated her like the girl who falls into a tub of water at a temple fair,'' she sniffed, denying she insisted on star treatment on her daughter's behalf. -

Ploy
Feisty actress Cherman "Ploy'' Boonyasak has no regrets after she complained to a city coffee shop about a staff member, resulting in him losing his job.

Ploy joined the queue at Coffee Beans by Dao at the Paragon department store recently when a member of staff identified as Akarach Phetkrajang, an assistant chef, asked if he could take her picture.

Ploy said she had waited for five minutes, but had yet to be served. "I don't ask for any special favours. I joined the queue like anyone else, and was wearing sunglasses.

"However, I was starving, and wanted to eat before agreeing to pose for any pictures,'' she told reporters.

She asked if he wanted to take her order. But Akarach, who identifies himself on Twitter as BoyKikGun, repeated that he would like to take her picture. Fed up (but not fed), Ploy walked out.

BoyKikGun tweeted an account of what happened in which he accused Ploy of pulling a star turn.

"Ploy is evil. It's no wonder that former boyfriend Dome Pakorn left her,'' he wrote in a message sent to a handful of celebrities, including gossipy DJs.

Ploy said she could tolerate a certain amount of provocation, but BoyKikGun's tweet crossed the line. He also posted his account at the shop's Facebook site.

She called the shop's manager, Nattaya "Dao'' Pangphuttipong, who sacked the young man.

The manager told her that BoyKikGun had been reprimanded for harassing customers before. The young man later apologised.

Ploy, who showed the tweets to reporters, along with a picture of BoyKikGun on her phone, said she understands that fans want to get close to her. However, they should also know that everyone has their limits.

"We can get hungry, tired and sick like anyone else. There can even be times when a celebrity can't manage a smile, especially after Botox,'' she joked.

Ploy's boyfriend, actor Navin "Tar'' Yavapolkul, said he had warned Ploy to watch herself. While he doubted that BoyKikGun was the vengeful type, she could never be too careful.

Dome, Ploy's former love, said Ploy did not blow up at people without reason, but seldom held back when she felt she had been wronged.

"She's honest about the way she feels, while I might try to hold it in, and only blow up when I am at home,'' he said.
