MARSHA BACK TO BLACK, TANYA TO SUE, VJ IN A SPIN

Marsha, Cyril
The relationship between singer Marsha Vadhanapanich and her French producer - known as Cyril - has fallen apart, less than six months after they started work on her first solo album.

When news of their partnership came to light several months ago, reporters wondered if they had also formed a romantic attachment.

However, any fond feelings appear to have evaporated, after a representative for Cyril laid a breach of copyright complaint against her.

Pattathorn Saengjansri, a mysterious, sunglasses-clad woman who claims she was representing Sony Music Europe on Cyril's behalf, visited the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) on Monday.

Her complaint alleges Marsha breached copyright ownership of the title song from her album, I'm Back.

In response, Marsha's lawyer plans taking civil and criminal action against producer Cyril next week, alleging defamation and extortion.

The dispute came to light on Monday when reports emerged that Sony Music Europe, supposedly acting on Cyril's behalf, was suing Marsha for 100 million baht.

Marsha's lawyer Boonanan Biemphongsan and manager Thotsaworn Srisuwan are uncertain, however, whether Sony Music Europe really is involved, how much Cyril wants, or whether he's even talking about the same song.

"We have not spoken to Cyril himself, and have no idea where he's gone. We communicate by email.

"He has asked for anything from one million baht, three million baht, eight million baht, to 20 million baht,'' said Mr Boonanan.

He and Mr Thotsaworn went before the media on Thursday to discuss the complaint.

"Cyril goes under a variety of names, and claims he's a public relations officer for Sony, or perhaps it's Warners ... he has mentioned both.

"One email turned up under a letterhead for Sony Electricity, which is not the same as Sony Music.

"In another, he claims he owns the copyright to the song, I'm Black - as in, 'my skin is black' - which differs from the title of Marsha's song, I'm Back,'' said Mr Boonanan.

Marsha had composed the song herself, and registered the copyright with Thai authorities.

Mr Boonanan said he had asked Cyril to provide evidence of his claims, but he had yet to oblige.

Cyril contacted Marsha offering to help produce her album. The pair appeared in publicity shots together and registered a company together, Marsha Productions.

"Cyril promised to invest a large sum as her business partner, but has yet to send her a single baht,'' he said.

Sony Music Thailand said it knew nothing of the dispute.

In her CSD complaint, Ms Pattathorn, 33, who referred to herself as "Dr Pat'' in her email correspondence with Marsha's lawyer, said Marsha had failed to inform Cyril about the launch of the album last month.

They had worked on the album since last year.

Cyril asked Sony to take action after his repeated requests for Marsha to stop promotional work for the album were ignored.

Marsha is a former long-standing Grammy Entertainment artist who left the label late last year to go solo.

The day before news of the legal dispute emerged, Marsha told reporters that life as a solo artist was harder than she expected.

"I was with Grammy for 20 years, but there are some aspects of producing albums which I still didn't know. It's harder than I thought,'' she said.

Marsha is juggling a busy schedule between promoting her album, and working four to five days a week on a soap opera.

"I'm so busy I barely know who I am any more. I have no time for love, so the break is welcome. I haven't set myself against it ... I welcome all comers.

"But who'd want to flirt with me at the moment? I have no time or energy for anybody,'' she said.

In December, Marsha and her long-time love, celebrity DJ Krit Sripoomset, ended their six-year relationship. Marsha said that while she is aware of news reports linking Krit to a bevy of women, the pair remain friends, and do not snoop in each other's business. -

Tanya
Actress and presenter Tanyaret "Tanya'' Engtrakul has given up on her marriage to businessman Peck Sunchai.

After news of his alleged philandering with a starlet came to light last year, she has now decided she wants a divorce.

Tanya said she couldn't find a way out of their problems since news broke of Peck's relationship with actress Savika "Pinky'' Chaiyadej.

The couple have lived apart since, with Tanya and their daughter Leeya, aged two, based in the US with relatives, while Peck tends to his business in Bangkok.

He has visited Tanya in the US, but their talks about the future of their family and marriage have not made progress.

Tanya told the media in phone interviews from the US last week that while talks between the couple are continuing over custody of Leeya, the matter may have to be decided in court.

"Peck does not want a divorce. He says he still loves me and Leeya. He says if the matter has to go to court, then so be it. All he asks is that we not get angry with each other,'' she said.

Dara Daily gossip magazine said Tanya had appointed a team of lawyers to file her case with the Juvenile and Family Court.

The Manager/ASTV newspaper said yesterday that in a civil case, she would seek damages of 124 million baht against Peck and damages of about 20 million baht against the "third party'' responsible for bringing an end to their marriage.

Tanya is said to have hired lawyers with experience in fighting cases on behalf of entertainers, and to have asked four of her celebrity friends to give evidence on her behalf.

"I feel better, as if I have extricated myself from a problem,'' she said. News reports said she intends returning to Thailand early this month.

The resulting scandal forced Pinky to take a temporary break from the entertainment industry. After attempting to launch a Bollywood career as an actress in India, she is now learning dance in Finland, with no immediate plans to return.

As if to underline Tanya's desire to start again, a series of audio clips allegedly involving Pinky and Peck have been released on the internet, accompanied by a fuzzy picture of a couple resembling Pinky and Peck, locked in an embrace.

Asked for comment, Pinky's father Saman Chaiyadej said the family had gathered evidence to sue the parties responsible for leaking sound clips of Pinky, but had yet to take action.

"Whoever is releasing these clips has it in for Pinky. Someone is running a campaign against her. If we take action on this matter, another one is sure to turn up,'' he said. -

Krit, Woonsen, Chakrit
Coincidence and sightings with notorious romeos go hand-in-hand for busy VJ Wirithipa "Woonsen'' Pakdeeprasong.

In the same week that she was linked with celebrity DJ Krit Sripoomset, pictures were published of her walking hand-in-hand in Thong Lor with actor Chakrit Yamnarm.

Both men are known for their eye for the ladies.

Woonsen said the meeting with DJ Krit at her condo was a mere coincidence. So too was a second sighting of herself and Krit, this one as far away as Italy.

"Krit was moving in to the same condo building as me, on the day I happened to be moving out,'' she said. "It was a destiny thing.''

As for the sighting in Italy, Woonsen acknowledged she had met Krit in Milan, but said that was also mere happenstance. "I visited Italy with a group of women friends, and Krit happened to be there at the same time,'' she said.

A day later, the gossip press linked Woonsen with yet another notorious romeo. Pictures were published of her walking hand-in-hand at a Thong Lor sportsfield with actor Chakrit.

Woonsen admits she gets on well with Chakrit, but won't say how far their relationship has progressed as she wants Chakrit to declare his hand first. "Please try to understand me,'' she told reporters, declining requests for comment.

Chakrit has yet to say where their relationship stands. A snap poll of 35 readers by Dara Daily, on whether Chakit and Woonsen were likely to be the industry's next big romantic coupling, found 21, or 60% thought the pair were ill-suited to each other and were unlikely to last. Chakrit liked playing around too much, they said.

Woonsen herself had trouble holding down relationships. Most recently she was going out with socialite Warrapon "M'' Jentanakul.
