Football fever, A night worth forgetting, Going all the way

Aum
The kathoey who allegedly took the fancy of the socialite seeing A-list star Patcharapa ''Aum'' Chaichuea, above, was just a football cheer girl, Aum says.

Aum last week denied reports that her socialite love interest, Kornwat ''Note'' Chaiwirawat, fell for a kathoey.

She took Note before the media to show reporters that they were still an item. Note, who rarely comments in the media, took a back seat while Aum explained what happened.

Note met kathoey Ratchada ''Amie'' Krutramas just the once, and in the presence of friends, Aum said.

Note and a group of friends invited Amie to their apartment to help them cheer a World Cup football game.

Note had never met the girl before. They were watching the football at a serviced apartment they rented to watch the World Cup, said Aum.

The game wasn't going their way, so a friend suggested they call up a girl and invite her around in the hope it would improve their luck.

''Note didn't go down to meet her ... she travelled up to see them,'' said Aum.

''At first they were confused, as they didn't recognise her from the information provided.

''Even if it was a real woman, I wouldn't have a problem, as his friends were also present,'' she said.

When Note explained to her what happened, she understood. ''I can't say much more, in case people accuse Note of being credulous,'' she said, referring to Note's belief that lady luck would pay him and his football friends a visit if they called a female stranger to their apartment.

Last week, kathoey Amie went before the media to dispel rumours that she had been playing around with Note. ''Really, it's nothing. We know each other, and Aum has called me about it. She was pleasant on the phone,'' said Amie.

Aum confirmed she called Amie, but said she merely wanted to know what was going on.

''I'm a girl, so I want to know other people's business,'' she joked, adding that she trusted Note.

''I have called his friends. None of them would approve of him playing around, and they confirm that no one set up the meeting in advance.''

Note said Aum was still the girl for him. He was upset by the reports, as they implied he and Amie had a thing going, when it wasn't true. -

Ben
Singer Chalatit ''Ben'' Tantiwut can't remember his drunken night out in Pattaya, but insists he was robbed and wants police to find the culprits.

Eyewitnesses say a man fitting Ben's description paraded about drunk, annoyed the locals and ended up on the road unconscious for his troubles.

Ben, 29, who is signed to the Sony Music label, was admitted to Pattaya Bangkok hospital after he was found beaten unconscious close to Pattaya beach early on Monday.

Doctors say he was hit about the head and neck, and his wounds needed seven stitches.

Ben was on his way home from a birthday party in central Pattaya.

He and a farang friend turned up outside a coffee shop close to Soi Yamato. The pair fell out, and the farang took off on his motorbike.

According to some witnesses, Ben, wearing just a pair of shorts, cruised down the street, bawling out a kathoey, a prostitute, a motorcycle taxi driver and a CD seller.

The motorcycle taxi driver, Wichai Huay-yai, said Ben picked a fight with him. He swung a fist, but Wichai dodged in time. He managed to land several blows on Ben, who ran off towards the beach.

''I didn't pay much notice, as I was busy with a customer. However, when I returned, my friends in the motorcycle taxi queue told me a guy had been assaulted by a bunch of teens,'' he said.

Ben's mother, Rossukon Tantiwut, said her son is missing his Rolex watch, cash and mobile phone. She believes he was robbed, but insists her son is quiet and proper and had never caused anyone any trouble.

According to gossip rag Siam Dara, CD salesman Sombat ''Nuu'' Srihathai was drinking with friends when Ben turned up and started making trouble.

''I tried to hit him, but a volunteer policeman stopped me before I could lay a hand on him. He was wearing just a pair of shorts. He wasn't carrying any valuables as far as I could tell,'' Mr Sombat said.

Thai Rath newspaper carries a different account. It says Mr Sombat tried to break up a fight involving Ben and a group of people on the street. Refusing to listen to reason, Ben thumped him in the ear.

Pattaya police head Nanthawut Suwanla-ong said investigators are making little progress, as Ben can't remember what happened or what his attackers looked like.

Ben has apologised for causing fans concern. ''I'm sorry for causing my fans worry. As I can't remember anything, I will have to rely on what evidence police are able to find,'' he said.

''But if I really was drunk as claimed, why not just fetch the police? They could put me in the cells for the night to cool off. There's no need to hit me and take my belongings,'' he said. -

Ananda, Ploy
Actress Cherman ''Ploy'' Boonyasak takes it all off for her acting teacher in a remake of the classic Chua Fa Din Salai (Forever Yours).

She and leading man Ananda Everingham star in the period romance/drama, out in cinemas next month. Promotional stills for the movie show her bare bottom. Ananda also appears nude.

The film, based on the story by Malai Chupinit, is directed by Panthawenop ''Mom Noi'' Thewakul for Sahamongkol Films. It's the fourth time it has been made into a film.

Ananda plays the educated Burmese nephew of a logging company boss. He falls in love with his uncle's new wife. The film was made in Chiang Mai, and the bare butt scene is set in a forest.

Ploy and Ananda have known each other since they were teenagers, but it's their first film together. Mom Noi, who taught both actors the basics of their craft, said they were ideal choices for the leads. ''They play such different characters, in ideals and background. But their love is destined to chain them together,'' he said.

Ploy said she was willing to go all out for the film, no less so because her teacher Mom Noi _ making his return to the director's chair for the first time in 13 years _ was making it.

''It is the first time I have gone naked. We didn't use a stand in, but I took precautions,'' she said.

''Only five performers were on set, and women members of the crew stood guard. We also confiscated mobile phones from the crew, though I doubt we will have any trouble with leaked clips,'' she said.

Ploy said she suspects audiences will be more interested in the plot than her bare bottom. ''It's up to the audience, but if people go to see the film just for our love scene, I suggest they stay away, as the film is much bigger than that,'' she said.
