Playing with guns, All cut up, Age takes its toll, Taking a cab home

Keng
Troubled hi-so model/actor Mathus ''Keng'' Suansri admits threatening a security guard in Pattaya with a gun, but denies holding it to the man's forehead.

Keng presented himself at a Pattaya police station on Tuesday to deny charges of threatening the guard, and carrying a weapon in a public place. The gun was fake, he claimed.

The day before, Keng, 26, and members of his family met the media to correct news reports that claimed Keng (Sin Sisters 2) held a gun to the head of the guard after he denied a member of his party access to a Pattaya pub.

Media outlets aired security camera footage of the confrontation that took place outside the Differ pub in North Pattaya on April 24.

Keng, who turned up with a group of about eight family members, said the clash started when the guard denied his nephew access. He was below the legal age for entry. Another of his nephews and the guards started to argue.

''I grabbed my gun for self-protection. I merely showed it to them. The mere sight of the weapon was enough to scare them off,'' said Keng.

He said the 9mm handgun belonged to his father. Keng said that up to 10 black-clad guards had gathered outside the pub to argue with his party, which alarmed him.

Guard Pianat Thana, who laid a complaint with police, said Keng lost his temper and threw a punch. He returned to his Ferrari, brought out the weapon, and threatened him.

Mr Pianat said he tried to wrest the weapon from him, but failed. Fearing Keng would fire at him, he ran for cover.

Keng admits he refused to stop for police when they pursued him after the altercation.

Police caught up with him on Sukhumvit Road, South Pattaya. But Keng took advantage of his vehicle's superior power to speed away, news reports said.

''I didn't mean to evade police. It's human nature to flee if you think you've done something wrong, even if you don't know what it is,'' said Keng.

Talks were continuing with Mr Pianat, the guard.

Keng, the nephew of a famous likay singer, claimed the altercation had not affected his work, with the director of Sin Sisters 2, his new film, calling to offer him support.

Keng has a history of trouble with the law, including a conviction for detaining and raping an actress.

The court sentenced him to five years in jail for that offence, which occurred when Keng was 17. However, due to his age and confession, it halved the sentence and suspended it.

The Manager newspaper says he has also faced claims of attempting to kill a university student, illegally detaining a ``pretty'' girl, abducting a school student, assaulting the son of a jewellery store owner and assaulting a contract builder.

Two days before the confrontation at the Pattaya pub, Keng showed off his Ferrari at a charity function in Nonthaburi, where he claimed to have mended his ways.

The Dara Daily gossip rag said Keng turned up at the 28th anniversary of the Nontapoom Home for Children with Disabilities in Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, where he bought the youngsters a meal, and showed off the Ferrari that he was to use just two days later as he attempted to evade police pursuit.

''`I have turned over a new leaf,'' he claimed. -

Guy
Actor/model Rachanon ''Guy'' Sukprakob has apologised after accusing a Thai director of slyly cutting his scenes from a Thai/Korean romance.

Guy says outspoken director Poj Anon demoted him from lead actor to supporting lead in Sorry Sarahaeyo, which is still in production.

Poj Anon has worked with Guy on two previous films _ the katoey comedy Hor Taew Taek, and the horror Tai Horng.

While they were filming the scenes in South Korea, Guy asked to go back to Thailand early because he had accepted a role in a soap opera for Channel 7.

Poj was happy to hear the this, as he had spoken to Channel 7 about hiring Guy.

However, news emerged shortly after that entertainment company Exact Productions had called in Guy, who had agreed to sign a contract with that firm instead.

''Perhaps Poj is unhappy with me for changing my mind. His idea of how the film will turn out changes from day to day, but from what I can tell, I am no longer in the lead role,'' said Guy.

''Since the crew returned to Thailand, I have not shot any more scenes,'' he complained. Poj had not said anything to him about the change.

Poj denies he was upset after Guy decided to throw in his lot with Exact, despite having told Channel 7 that he would appear in one of their soaps.

''I don't stand to lose either way. But he shouldn't say one thing and do another. I don't want to work with him again,'' Poj sniffed.

He denied having demoted Guy to supporting lead. ''Shooting hasn't finished ... how does he know?'' said Poj.

''However, if he wants to be a supporting lead, I will arrange it for him. I will cut the film so that's all he's left with,'' said Poj.

Guy has since apologised. Poj had introduced him to the industry, and he knew he should be grateful.

''My comments were inappropriate. Poj is a senior figure in the industry, and I have never forgotten the help he gave me,'' he said. -

Beam
After a spot of bother with the law, and now a jet-skiing accident, bad-boy presenter/DJ Saranyu ''Beam'' Prachakrit says it is time he pulled his head in.

On April 1, Beam, 27, was involved in a jet-ski accident on the Chao Phraya River. He suffered fractures to his arms and a head wound that needed more than 100 stitches.

News reports, however, claimed he was admitted to hospital for surgery after fighting at a Thong Lor pub with the son of a politician.

Late last year, police caught Beam in a vehicle with fake police stickers and an unauthorised police siren.

''Two bad luck events in the space of a year ... I regard this as a warning. I can't afford to have so much fun,'' he said last week as he showed reporters his stitches.

He doesn't know how the pub story came about, but insists he suffered the injuries in a jet-ski accident while playing outside his riverside condo.

Last year, police charged him with carrying unlicensed weapons, displaying an unauthorised siren and carrying an unauthorised police radio. They found the items after Beam's car was involved in a scrape with another vehicle outside a city school in November.

A further charge, of modifying a vehicle without permission, was added when police discovered the vehicle did not come from the set of a television soap opera as Beam claimed, but was in fact his own vehicle.

Beam said while the media treated the police car incident as big news, he had settled it for a fine of just 2,500 baht.

''I like to have my fun, but I do have some manners. If it looks illegal, I shall have to think twice, as I am inclined to get carried away,'' he said. -

Chompoo
Quick thinking, and a six-hour chartered taxi ride from Milan to Rome ensured actress/businesswoman Araya ''Chompoo'' A Hargett made it back to Thailand promptly when European skies closed over Songkran.

Chompoo was taking a break in Italy when a cloud of ash from an Icelandic volcano covered Europe, grounding thousands of flights.

She was visiting Milan with her man of the moment, socialite Wisaruth ''Not'' Rangsisingphipat, when the volcano started spewing ash.

''I was due to return home on the Sunday, but learned the day before that the airport in Milan, where we were supposed to catch our flight, had closed,'' she said.

''Friends let us know Thai Airways was putting on extra flights. I asked them to book us one.

''The train from Milan to Rome was full, so we hired a taxi instead. The journey took six hours and cost 100,000 baht, split between the three Thais in our group.''

Chompoo said she was lucky to make it back so promptly, as she knew many other travellers were stuck at airports for days waiting for flights to resume.
