Gun happy, Apologetic mystic, Thaksin's mystery admirer, Simply sin sod-tastic

Bad-boy presenter and DJ Saranyu "Beam" Prachakrit declares he is happy after a court almost sent him to jail for carrying an unlicensed weapon in public.

Beam
On Tuesday, the Criminal Court in Bangkok fined Beam 3,000 baht and sentenced him to jail for seven months - suspended for a year - for carrying an unlicensed handgun in public.

He was found carrying the weapon in his car last November, after it was involved in a scrape with another vehicle outside a city school.

Officers stopped Beam's car at a roadblock, where they found it had been done up in black and white to resemble a police vehicle.

Police searched the vehicle and found Beam was carrying a knife, handcuffs, the firearm, a police radio, a gas mask and electric shock apparatus.

Police charged the Virgin Radio DJ and Channel 3 presenter with carrying unlicensed weapons; displaying an unauthorised siren and carrying an unauthorised police radio.

A further charge, of modifying a vehicle without permission, was added when police discovered the vehicle he was driving did not come from the set of a television soap opera as Beam claimed, but was in fact his own vehicle.

The court has sentenced Beam to eight months in jail, and fined him 4,000 baht for having an unlicensed weapon; and six months in jail, and a fine of 2,000 baht, for carrying it in public.

As Beam had confessed, and this was his first offence, the court decided to halve the sentence to seven months in jail, and fined him 3,000 baht. The jail term is suspended for 12 months.

"I'm lucky, as the court has shown me mercy," said Beam.

"I'm a member of the public just like anyone else, and when I do wrong should pay for it. Now I can get on with my life.

"Industry bosses have warned me about my conduct, and I've promised to reform my ways," he said. -

Lydia
An R&B singer has settled her defamation dispute with a celebrity fortune-teller who claimed mistakenly that she was pregnant before marriage.

At the Nonthaburi District Court on Tuesday, R&B singer Saranrat "Lydia" Wisutthithada agreed to drop her 50 million baht defamation claim against Mor Krit (Sukrit Patumsriwiroj), after he agreed to apologise.

The dispute stems from remarks he made on a television show in November, 2008, in which he claimed Lydia was probably pregnant, based on his reading of her stars.

Lydia said the forecast damaged her reputation, as it led to speculation that she had fallen pregnant to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, a family friend, and travelled to Malaysia for an abortion.

Mor Krit has now agreed to apologise, and will pay damages into a charity fund to be set up for physically disabled children.

His apology will run for three consecutive days in Thai newspapers next month.

Lydia, who took the case with other members of her family, welcomed the settlement, which was reached after several hours of talks.

"We had to go to court so often, which was a drain. Now we can look forward to restarting our lives," she said.

As part of the settlement, Lydia and Mor Krit have agreed to drop all suits and counter-suits against each other.

Early this month, Mor Krit lost a related case in the Criminal Court in which Lydia sued him for the same amount.

The court sentenced the young fortune-teller to jail for six months, suspended, and fined him 75,000 baht.

Mor Krit isn't saying if the Criminal Court decision - which he had earlier vowed to appeal - played a part in his decision to settle the civil case. However, he agreed that it was time to get on with his life, rather than have it bound up with legal disputes.

Lydia said the 75,000 baht which Mor Krit paid in criminal damages will be added to the undisclosed amount which he must pay in the civil case, with both payments going into the charity fund.-

Saipan
Teen actress Apinya "Saipan" Sakuljaroensuk is brushing off claims that she has a crush on Thaksin Shinawatra.

Someone calling herself SAI - PAN has been sending Twitter messages to the fugitive former prime minister morning, noon and night, says the anti-Thaksin Manager newspaper.

Most of the messages send encouragement. The author feels close enough to Thaksin to refer to him as "Uncle".

SAI - PAN also sent messages to Thai celebrities such as singer Thongchai "Bird" McIntyre, and director/ actor Sinjai "Nok" Plengpanit. No one has yet responded to her tweets.

On the internet, many Thais assume the author of the tweets is Saipan. They have given her the nickname Lydia 2, after the R&B singer Saranrat "Lydia" Wisutthithada, a family friend of Thaksin's.

Saipan, however, denies sending the tweets, or that Thaksin has taken her under his wing as a would-be niece.

"I don't have a Twitter account, and don't know how to tweet. I am too busy working to spend all day in front of a computer," she said when asked for comment.

"I know Mr Thaksin was a former prime minister, but I don't know him personally, and I know nothing about his relationship with Lydia," she said. "Maybe it's someone impersonating me, or using my name.

"I am not interested in politics," she added.

Mor Oiy, Micky
Jutharat "Mor Oiy" Athakorn, a former nurse in her early forties well-known for her nearly-naked shoots in fashion magazines, has found a new love in a co-presenter of a sexy show on cable TV. They have been together five months.

Nathapong "Micky" Chopcheun is not much use in bed, but is good company, Mor Oiy told the Manager newspaper.

Mor Oiy, who married once before when she was a mere youngster, said she once swore off marrying again, but had now changed her mind.

"Marriage is a way of declaring you are no longer available," she said.

"So many men flirt with me. I want them to know I am now taken, and that I have now found Mr Right," she said.

Demanding such a steep dowry was a way of testing Micky's love, though really she had no need.

"Mum has asked him for a dowry of five million baht, a three carat diamond ring, and 20-30 baht weight in gold,' she said.

"For the wedding, one million baht should be enough, though his family has set no limit.

"I'm no virgin, and my mother has no intention of selling her child into marriage," said Mor Oiy.

"If we love each other, Mum is happy. But if I ask for too little, isn't it a little too easy?

"If he really wants me, he should have to struggle. It's a test of his love, because to get to this point I have had to pass through many wars.

"To look this beautiful, I have had to apply so many skin whitening creams. But if he was to just turn up and ask me to be his wife, without making any investment in me, how would it look?" she said.

He was ready for marriage, and she believed he loved him for herself rather than money or fame.

They are likely to wed in July.
