Kicking the habit, not a party line, bare-faced cheek

Saipan
Fuming teen actress Apinya ''Saipan’’ Sakuljaroensuk has walked out on her talent manager Nirun ''Coco’’ Limsomwong in a row over bad language, bad planning, and her smoking habit.

Saipan has unilaterally torn up their agreement, which still has one year to go.

Coco, who was recently embroiled in a high-profile dispute with another member of his talent stable, says the problem is with Saipan, not himself.

Only months ago, Saipan testified in court on Coco’s behalf in a contract dispute with actor/model Mario Maurer (Love of Siam, 4 Romances).

Coco took Mario to court for breach of contract, after Mario left to join rival manager Supachai ''A’’ Sriwichit. They settled the dispute in late August.

Now Saipan has declared that she, too, is leaving Coco’s retinue of young stars. She claims she has written to Coco saying she no longer wants him to accept work on her behalf.

Flanked by loyal teen members of his stable at an industry event, Coco told journalists he still doesn’t know what set off their dispute.

''I have yet to get any formal word that Saipan wants to end our relationship, so will carry on looking after her affairs as normal,’’ he said.

''I hear everything through the media,’’ added the talent manager, who admits he is worried about what other youngsters will think should he lose a second starlet from his care.

''There are two copies of the contract, which we both signed. If she tears up her own while mine remains in place, it is unlikely to have much effect.’’

Saipan says Coco took on too much work on her behalf, leaving her no time for rest. After she challenged him about her overlapping schedule, the two had words.

''Coco says I was wrong to use bad words to him, as he is older. Maybe we just know each other too well. But he also said bad things to my parents, which I can’t accept,’’ she said.

He had also aired details about her private life to the media, which upset her.

On radio last month, Coco deflected questions by DJs who wanted to know if Saipan still smokes tobacco.

''I think you had better ask her...I don’t know,’’ he said.

Journalists had rapped the Friendship, Ploy and 4 Romances star for setting a bad example to the young.

Saipan said she laughed when she heard his comments. ''He is just dragging up old matters from the past,'' she sniffed, while declining to say whether she still indulges in the smoking habit.

''Coco is saying that he still looks after my affairs, but I have consulted my parents, and my decision is that I can no longer work with him. Whatever good feelings we had have now gone, and the more he talks, the worse it gets,’’ she said.

The day after their argument, Saipan was recording the soundtrack for a movie, when Coco turned up unannounced with her parents, his assistant, and a lawyer.

''I don’t know why he had to bring a lawyer along. If anyone starts legal action, it won’t be me,’’ she said.

Coco will not say if the dispute is likely to go to court. After Saipan declared their contract was over, Coco sent an assistant to stay with Saipan. She shoo-ed him away. -

Peuy, R
Singer/actor Anattapol "R" Sirichumsaeng has split up with long-term love, actress Panward ''Peuy'' Hemmanee, but denies a blossoming relationship with his ‘’BB’’ (Blackberry telephone) put her off.

Peuy (Bangkok Dangerous) says she ended the three-year pairing herself, though insists they are still friends.

R, she said, was a good person but not yet responsible enough to handle a serious relationship.

''I still love him utterly, but have decided it's time to step back, to see if he can do better. I feel safe and warm when I am with him, but I need something more... he needs to be a leader, a grown-up, for the sake of our future.

''I am lost many nights’ sleep, and can barely face work at the moment, but believe it's now time I looked after myself,’’ said Peuy, who broke into tears as she updated journalists.

Earlier, R gave his own reasons why Peuy had walked away. ''I have many friends, and would rather go to them first when I get off from work.’’

This upset Peuy, who would rather he had spent more time with her. He had tried making up to his mate, to no avail.

''I have tried getting back in her good books, but she rarely answers my calls. We haven’t seen each other for two weeks.’’

Another report suggested he was also too partial to chatting up girls on his Blackberry toy, though R denies it.

''I have a new BB, but I can barely use it. I can’t send text messages, or add friends.

''Other than a handful of genuine women friends from the industry, I have no girls on my BB.

''But I like chatting on it, because I can show express I feel. When I talk, it’s the blokey language of koo/ mueng, not sweet nothings intended for girls,’’ he said.

R says he is worried about Peuy, but agrees they should both spend time apart rather than rush back into their relationship, as nothing will have changed. -

Matthew
Thai/farang singer Matthew Dean has delivered one in the eye to critics who say he was wrong to bare his buttocks on television.

On Modernine Nine’s Superstar reality show, in which he is competing, Matthew flashed his bottom before the cameras and stage audience, including his girlfriend and her parents.

Matthew says the move, part of a Tarzan sequence, was rehearsed, and appropriate for the song.

''I was really in with my part, but most viewers would agree it was fitting. The judges thought it was great. I bared my buttocks for just a second, though the freeze-frame images which appeared in the media make it look as if it went on for ages,’’ he said.

''Who are these critics...are they dancers? Maybe they just like leaving nasty comments on the internet...or are they those types who like downloading porn in the middle of the night?’’ he asked.

Matthew is gaining a reputation for showing his bottom in public, after he mooned reporters at a city department store in March last year.

He and girlfriend Saranrat ''Lydia’’ Wisutthithada were shopping. Matthew spotted some journalists as the pair headed up an escalator, and whipped down his pants.

Pictures showed Lydia smiling at journalists as Matthew flashed his buttocks, though she claims she did not know what her boyfriend was doing until she turned around.

Lydia's parents complained, while on webboards, Thais said Matthew was wrong to import brash farang culture to Thailand.

''By all means expose yourself to friends and relatives overseas, but Thais do not appreciate it,’’ they sniffed.

Matthew apologised, but added that farang often mooned their friends in fun, and thought nothing of it.

''We hear about Thais wanting to go ‘inter’, but when something like this happens, critics claim western culture is no good, as it is too permissive,’ he complained. ‘’So what about all those teens in Silom wearing skimpy dresses?’’

Lydia says his Tarzan sequence was a great turn-on for viewers, and denied her parents were upset to see Matthew show his rear a second time.

''My parents were surprised to see it in the show, that’s all,’’ she said.

Disingenuous Matthew says this time was different, as he did not take down his pants himself. ''The dancers performing with me pulled them down,’’ he said.
