The full monty, an eternal wrangle, a happy family

Oub
A veteran talent scout is posing nude to raise money for stray cats and dogs, which act as props to cover his private bits, just in case anyone is offended by the sight of his middle-aged sagging flesh.

Wiriya ‘‘Oub’’ Pongahjhan, 50, who raises 100 homeless cats and dogs on the streets near his home, has decided to bare it all for the sake of his favourite cause.

He strikes a variety of poses ("with and without chains’’) for a photographer, who is holding a photo exhibition of the pictures next year. The images will also be auctioned, and published in calendar form.

‘‘It’s a one-off, and actually something I have been thinking about doing for a couple of years. Before, I wasn’t ready, but now that I am 50 I figure I have nothing more to lose.

‘‘What you see is what you will get – I want it to look natural, arty, off-beat. In some shots I am half naked, in others I have taken everything off, though I hold cats and dogs over my private parts for the sake of viewer modesty,’’ said Oub.

‘‘They were shaking,’ joked Oub, referring to the animals, not his dangly parts.

He has cared for stray animals around his Bang Kapi home for the last 15 years. The cost of feeding them can reach 25,000 baht a month, but Oub hopes that with earnings from his photo shoot, he can spread the net to support stray cats and dogs nationwide.

In one image released to the media, Oub is wearing rough jeans. He grins, one eye closed, like a mad pirate, as he holds a startled, bow-wearing Chihuahua dog to his bare chest.

‘‘It’s not about me showing off my eight inches or whatever,’’ said Oub, referring to male model Sura ''Nicky The Magic Stick'' Theerakol, who is famous for baring almost everything before the cameras.

‘‘In fact, I may be the first Thai man aged 50 to pose naked, or almost naked for charity,’’ said Oub.

Oub unveiled details of his photo project on the same day as he settled a defamation row with Pongchayut "Chaihack’’ Thawisrithanachok, a fellow talent scout.

Days before, Chai laid a complaint with Tao Poon police in Bang Sue, saying Oub had defamed him in a pocketbook and a series of magazine articles going back 12 years.

He called Chai two-faced, a back-stabber, and poisonous snake, in a row which started over who could justly claim the right to have discovered actress/model superstar Patcharapa ''Aum'' Chaichuea.

While Oub never mentioned him by name, Chai complained, everyone knew who he meant.

After mutual friends in the industry intervened, the pair put their differences aside. The pair hugged and shed tears when they met at the police station just two days later, and Chai withdrew his complaint.

Oub, who engaged in a lengthy row this year with director and former talent scout Poj Anon, denied he picked the fight with Chai just to drum up publicity.

‘‘Chinese say it is better to have to eat dog poo than go to court,’’ he said.

However, referring to his photo spread for charity venture, he admitted there was never a better time to push such a project. "These days, talent scouts are in the news almost as much as the stars are themselves.’’ -

Mor Krit
Fortune teller Mor Krit is promising another four to six years of court drama before the outcome of his dispute with R&B singer Saranrat ''Lydia'' Wisutthithada is known.

Last week the Criminal Court declined to accept his 100 million defamation suit against Lydia and her boyfriend, singer Matthew Dean.

However, far from feeling disheartened, Mor Krit (Sukrit Patumsriwiroj) is now vowing to take the dispute to the Civil Court.

His lawyer Sakorn Sirichai says he will appeal against the court’s decision, and file a suit in the Civil Court seeking the same amount in damages.

The dispute started last year when Mor Krit forecast incorrectly that Lydia was pregnant. The star-reading set off speculation that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, a family friend, was the father, and that Lydia had travelled to Malaysia for an abortion.

Lydia sued Mor Krit for defamation, seeking 50 million baht in damages. Mor Krit fought back with suits of his own against Lydia and Matthew, after they claimed he was leeching off Lydia’s fame to boost his own reputation, and that his methods were unprofessional.

Luck has been on Lydia’s side, as she has seldom bothered to show up in person for court-appointed conciliation hearings, including one on the Friday before the court’s decision to reject Mor Krit’s counter-suit.

The pop star, who has just bought a house with its own airstrip and small private airplane, had booked a flying lesson instead.

She sent along her lawyer with news that she was not interested in talking to Mor Krit, after he refused to show any remorse in an earlier appearance before the court.

Mor Krit had told the court that he forecast only that Lydia was pregnant. The media provided the Thaksin backstory, not him.

The court noted that when celebrity magazine Dara Daily published Mor Krit’s forecast with the Thaksin embellishments, Mor Krit did not bother to correct it.

Lydia was entitled to believe that Mor Krit actually made the remarks alleged. As for Matthew Dean’s comments criticising Mor Krit, that was a natural response for anyone trying to protect his girlfriend, it said.

‘‘I did not lose any sense of self with the decision,’’ said Mor Krit, adamant the court’s rejection of his suit would not affect his chances in court.

‘‘I can appeal against this decision, and then there’s the Appeal Court. This could drag on for six, seven years.

‘‘If my lawyer wants me to apologise, I will consider it. I have handed over the matter to him and haven’t worried about it for months,’’ he claimed.

The celebrity fortune-teller says he and Lydia share the same star sign. ‘‘I doubt anyone will be at a disadvantage in the end. When I read her stars, it’s really like reading my own.’’

Lydia says all she wants is an apology, and is prepared to drop the affair if she gets one. ‘‘But it’s been 12 months now and he has yet to make contact, so I doubt one will be offered.’’ -

Poo, Han
What better way to dispel public doubts about the state of your marriage than go before the cameras for a kiss?

Actress Montana "Poo’’ Himathongkam Hosiri and her husband, Pheu Thai MP/actor Pakdihan ‘’Han’’ Himathongkam puckered up before the cameras after the media claimed the pair had argued and were now sleeping in separate beds.

"That was a little embarrassing, as normally we just sniff each other’s cheeks,’’ said Han, referring to their lip embrace.

Poo says ill-intentioned types had sent her pictures of Pakdihan with another woman. It was the latest in a series of pictures sent by anonymous observers to her cellphone. Han is usually in a nightspot, sitting with a group.

‘‘I have stopped taking an interest now, as I suspect the people sending them might be unbalanced,’ said Poo. ‘When I call back, the person refuses to answer.’’

The media claimed that after the latest picture surfaced, the couple had argued and were now sleeping apart.

Poo was also said to have reminded her husband that she was no longer a beauty queen, but a mother, and he should behave.

Poo says she never spoke to the media, so doesn’t know where those stories came from. However, she admits she did ask her husband about the pictures.

Han, who has been away, had not seen the images, but said that in his line of work he has to socialise. The woman might have been the partner of a guy friend, or a work contact.

As Han answered questions from reporters, his wife, who started to weep, turned her back on the cameras so she could dab her eyes.

‘‘We didn’t argue about the pictures. If we argue about anything, it will be about our plans for a fourth child,’’ he said. Poo and Han have three children.

Poo says the fact they are planning to add to their family is a testament to the strength of their love. She did not want to cause trouble for her husband. Journalists had called, asking him whether their marriage was on the rocks.

‘‘We have moved to beds in the kids’ room, because the people opposite us are building a marital home,’ said Poo. ‘But we have not argued. We are raising our kids and are happy.’’
