Hit the temples to seek spiritual relief!
That was soap opera star 'Kwan' Usamanee's response after being attacked at an industry function by fellow actresses from the Channel 7 stable.
In the same week, ''close friend'' Grammy singer ''Golf'' Pichaya Nitipaisalkul also made it clear that he does not want the feisty one back in his life (see below).
First, though, that bitchy Channel 7 function.
Directors, producers and stars came together to unveil soap operas which will air during the next season. It was a glittering occasion, showcasing Channel 7's wares and its talent. So what went wrong?
Reporters know these actresses too well. They just can't get along - so why not invite them to stick in the knife?
Favourite hate figure of the night was top-rating star Kwan, known for her long sparkly nails.
She has sharpened those claws on a long list of the stable's talent, including ''Poo'' Mantana Hosiri, ''Pinky'' Sawika Chaiyadej, ''Bee'' Matika Atakornsiripow, and ''Pancake'' Khemanij. When they work together on set they quickly fall out.
At the close of the show, when Channel 7's actresses assembled for a group photo, guess who was absent? Miss Troublemaker Kwan (in the words of her own boss), who sought leave to go home early.
Kwan's rivalry with top-rating Pancake is well-known, and has led to bad feeling between the girls' mothers. Even their fan clubs are at odds.
Knowing how much they hate each other, reporters asked Pancake to do a stand-up interview with Kwan. She refused, making an elegant beeline for the toilets instead. She was uncomfortable appearing by Kwan's side, she told reporters.
Kwan's rivals for stardom have accused Kwan of harassing them by telephone. Pancake's mother said the culprit was silly if she thought no one could trace the calls.
Another foe is actress ''Poo'' Mantana, who fell out with Kwan while working with her on the soap opera, Pom Rak Roi Adeet.
In July, she tired of dealing with her co-star's shenanigans, and laid a complaint with police. Poo claimed she was getting prank calls and threatening text messages while on set.
She said the SMS messages had led to misunderstandings with her husband - who nevertheless backed her complaint.
As Channel 7 bosses forbade cast and crew from talking to the media, Kwan started getting morale-boosting visits from her ''close friend'' Golf, of Grammy singing duo Golf and Mike, causing further disunity on set; while Kwan's mother accused Poo of trying to draw attention to herself to boost her flagging star status.
Police traced the calls to the Chang Wattana set of the production. Soon after, Kwan admitted herself to hospital with a mystery vocal cord infection, as if to declare herself innocent of the charges - she could hardly make those prank calls herself, as she was unable to talk!
Kwan allowed the media to photograph herself being admitted in a wheelchair (oh please!) and wearing a fetching anti-bacterial mask.
Poo, who staked out her own corner of the Channel 7 function, was scathing about her former co-star. ''She walked past me and refused to wai, make eye contact or say hello. She's the same old Kwan - she hasn't changed,'' she told reporters.
''I do not want to work with Kwan. In fact, I do not want to meet her again in this life,'' she said.
While they worked together, Poo helpfully called Kwan a ''buffalo'' (thick) who turned up late and made problems for cast and crew.
Poo said she also resented unflattering comments which Kwan and her mother had made about her age. ''I am 31, Kwan is 21 - so how can she call me Aunty? And how can her mother say that I am old enough to be Kwan's mother?'' she sniffed.
For the sake of Channel 7, which did not want any more trouble, Poo agreed to put a brake on her police complaint - but would revive the matter if Kwan started annoying her again.
Another jewel in Channel 7's crown, actress ''Aum'' Patcharapa, declined to attend the launch. So much for the show of unity. Can relations in Channel 7's fractious house possibly get any worse?
The job of sorting out this mess falls to Channel 7 boss Daeng Surang Prempri, who called Kwan ''Miss Troublemaker'' when they met at the function.
Daeng makes light of the fact that her actresses would rather stab each other in the back than get behind Channel 7's big day. ''It's normal - three women can't occupy the same room together without fighting,'' she says.
She has called in Kwan, Poo, and the others for pep talks. ''I have told Kwan to look after herself, as she is still young and is likely to be in the industry for many years yet. If she has no friends, then she could also run out of fans,'' she says.
She urges actresses who have been in the business longer to exercise patience and understanding - and save the catfighting for those histrionic parts they play on television.-

Kwan, again |
Bad-girl actress ''Kwan'' Usamanee is licking her wounds after her relationship with singer Golf, of the Golf and Mike performing duo, turned sour.
On the internet, Thais argue Kwan is getting her come-uppance after she earlier dumped Golf to pursue a brief dalliance with socialite ''Pok'' Passornkorn Chirathivat.
Pok, who has returned overseas to resume his studies, was being pursued by two women before he left - Kwan, and a model who took his fancy, ''Por'' Saracha Reudisunan.
When Kwan heard about Por, she started calling Pok possessively on his phone - two or three times a day, according to gossip magazine Dara Daily.
This annoyed Pok, an heir to the giant Central Group, owner of the Central Department store.
In the media, Pok was also pictured in the company of a Kasetsart University student, 'Koy' Parichat Haraweht. One report - which Kwan denies - claimed she tracked down Koy, beat in the windscreen of her car, and told her to keep away from Mr Pok, or ELSE!
Golf |
Now that Pok has returned overseas, Kwan is trying to get back on good terms with Golf - but the young Grammy star is having none of it.
At a city department store, Kwan spotted Golf dining alone. They talked briefly.
Later, she was seen shedding a quiet tear, and muttering about how much she loves him. Some unkind reports say Kwan is so keen to get him back that she has even taken to donning disguises and following the poor fellow.
Kwan says she cries often, but always in private. She denies pining for Golf - she is merely ''waiting'', she says.
Golf, who adopts that safe line beloved of celebrities who want to deny involvement, says they are just ''close friends'' - and friends don't need to wait anywhere for each other.
Even tastier, for Kwan's enemies, is that Golf has sought solace in the company of actress 'Ploy' Cherman Boonyasak, an older woman.
Ploy, who recently split with long-term boyfriend, singer ''Dome'' Pakorn Lum, appeared at a recent Golf-Mike concert, as Mike's guest.
Golf and Ploy have been close ever since, with Ploy saying they dine together and talk on the phone regularly. They even shared a meal as a twosome in Pattaya, after meeting there ''by chance''.
After Golf spoke to Kwan that day, he met Ploy at the same store. The pair visited a cinema to check screening times. Golf denies they are both members of the Lonely Hearts Club, seeking solace in each other's misery.
Ploy, meanwhile, denies that Golf is competing with younger brother Mike for her affections. ''Everyone is a friend to me - at the moment I am not ready to get a new owner [to find a new boyfriend] anyway,'' she says.
Age is no problem, she says, if two people are on the same wavelength. The media has coined a new name for Ploy: madam of the nursery. Golf is her new charge.
Kwan has known Ploy for years, though the pair are not close. She denies that she feels any resentment towards Ploy for taking her former boyfriend. ''If he's happy, then I am happy for him,'' said Kwan. ''He is my best friend in the industry.''
''I would think twice about crossing Ploy - she gives as good as she gets, and is a much tougher adversary,'' one fan wrote, suggesting Kwan keep her distance.
Amid this emotional maelstrom, Kwan, her mother, and members of the beleaguered actress's fanclub have been making merit at temples, to mark the end of Buddhist Lent.
''I want to put bad things behind me, and look to the future,'' says Kwan.
''My feelings for Ploy are the same. I know what I should and shouldn't do.''
Finally!
A celebrity fortune-teller who read her stars says Kwan will not meet true love until she is at least 25 - and warns her to brace for two more bouts of bad news before the end of the year.
Kwan, says the fortune-teller, will marry late - so unless Golf and Pok want to stick around, neither is likely to be her Mr Right.
That sounds comforting news - but who is likely to draw more relief from the prediction: her, or them? -

Candy |
Candy says the name Chutima given to her by her parents makes her weary. She works hard, to make money for her family. Her father is ill and needs care.
She had been to see an ajarn (learned type) who knows about how someone's name can influence what happens to her in life.
''He told me that my name was making me tired, so he coined a new one: Mira Avery.
''At first I thought, 'Eh? Will this help?' But when he explained, I liked the sound of it. The stranger it sounds, the more it appeals.''
Mira, she says, means ocean. When paired with Avery - which Thai journalists spell in a variety of ways, but no matter - she would end up feeling less tired. ''I would actually like the work to keep flowing in - acting, modelling - so I can save money to help my family.
''Some might say I am credulous, grasping at straws. But if I can solve a problem in a simple way, then why not? It's also for my peace of mind.''
If the new name fails to work, then Mira can always chose another. Peace of mind is more important, after all!
