Hope for Por, what's in a name, nude, rude and lewd

Family prays for New Year recovery

Por's wife Vanda, and their daughter Mali
The family of ailing actor Tridsadee "Por" Sahawong say they are hoping for good news in the New Year, though doctors have warned they need to keep a close watch on his condition after an operation to remove his left lung.

Speaking at Ramathibodi Hospital, his manager, Sornmontra Pichaisornplaeng, said Por is still on a ventilator, and doctors are X-raying his right lung every two to three hours.

"Apart from his lung and breathing, there is nothing to worry about. The holes in his lung are getting better. His body is starting to recover by itself," he said.

"The doctors can control the rupturing of his air sacs. If his immune system gets better, it will help improve his care. But his doctors say we have to keep watch on him over New Year."

The popular Channel 3 actor was admitted to hospital early in early November, and fell into a coma which lasted weeks. On Nov 22 doctors amputated his left foot below the ankle to contain an infection as complications from the illness spread.

On Dec 24 his condition worsened and they took him back to the operating theatre to remove his left lung.

Mr Sornmontra said doctors were unwilling to take Por off breathing support, as they were unsure how he would react.

"He's still on a ventilator, as doctors are not 100% confident. But the signs are he will get past this well, with no deterioration in his condition. The doctors look cheerful," he said.

"His face looks clearer. He is sleeping, though first thing this morning he was awake. He looked around, but did not speak. Doctors don't want him to wake much, as they are worried it will irritate his airways."

Meanwhile, celebrities and media outlets targeted by a rash of fake websites claiming Por has died from his illness are laying complaints with police urging action against the culprits.

Por’s close friend, veteran actress Naowarat "Jik" Yuktanun, who was targeted by one of the websites, said the authors were evil to exploit Por’s suffering for the sake of humour. Many of the sites take readers to a porn website when they click on the link.

She was speaking last week as she paid a second visit to Por in hospital. A website claiming to represent the TV show Take Me Out Thailand ran a picture of her supposedly applying make-up to his body.

"I was shocked when I saw the image, as I often make up the bodies of the dead as an act of merit, but this was not Por. The person who did this is not human; he's evil. The news disgusts me. I hope the person responsible goes to hell," she said bluntly.

Pusit Laithong, the executive director of TV Thunder, which produces Take Me Out Thailand, has laid a complaint with Technology Crime Suppression Division police about the fake website, which he said was harming his business.

He was joined by actress Panadda "Poom" Wongphudee, who was targeted in a fake Facebook page carrying her name, in which she supposedly argues with her fans, and appears in a group funeral shot mourning over Por’s body.

The image actually comes from the 2013 funeral of country music singer Sayan Sanya. Among other outlets targeted are Thai language dailies Thai Rath and Khao Sod, and the Woody Kert Ma Kui TV show. Police are investigating. -

2. Media lets loose with celeb nicknames

Tangmo
Singer and actor Pakin "Tono" Kumvilaisak says he is worried about a playful end-of-year label given to his grieving ex-flame, actress Pattaratida "Tangmo" Patcharaveerapong.

Media outlets from the Thai Journalists’ Association banded together to come up with 358 nicknames for 71 celebrities who stood out in news events over the past year.

Tangmo’s messy break-up with Tono featured prominently in entertainment news, and both have ended up with nicknames referring to the end of their coupling.

Tono gets "Widower loosens the spell", in which he is likened to a widower by virtue of his status as a single man who has lost his partner. Tangmo’s nickname is "Gets her stomach pumped as she calls for her mate".

In July Tangmo tried to take her own life with an overdose of sleeping pills after Tono declared at a concert that he was now back in the singles market.

A friend came to her rescue in time and took her to hospital, where she had her stomach pumped, saving her life. Images taken by friends and posted on social media showed her on a stretcher, wearing Tono’s fatigues jacket, as she was carted into intensive care.

While Tangmo has yet to comment on her nickname, Tono said in his view it went too far.
"I am worried about her feelings, as in my view it is too strong for a woman. Nor is it funny. I can still laugh at mine — when I first heard it, I thought of a sorcerer in the Lord of the Rings, breaking spells — but hers is extreme," he said.

"We haven't sent messages to commiserate over the nicknames because we haven't talked in ages, but I am worried about her from a distance."

Tangmo said she didn’t want to comment on the tag until she had viewed reaction from the public. -

3. Naked model swamped with angst

Tadthawan Sakmanee
The young model who posed for daring shots wearing little but Thai body ornaments has apologised for lowering the image of Bang Khun Thian district, where the pictures were taken on a bridge above a swamp.

Tadthawan Sakmanee, 23, a freelance model from Kalasin, handed herself in to Thian Taleh police in the district last week after the local authority laid a complaint under the Computer Crimes Act when the images surfaced on social media.

The pictures show a model wearing little else but body ornaments, including a crown. They are normally worn to adorn a traditional Thai costume, but in this case the model is wearing nothing else, leaving her private parts exposed.

The pictures, which are doing the rounds on social media, were taken on a public bridge in a mangrove swamp, popular with tourists, which normally serves as a nature study point.

Speaking after she met station superintendent Pol Col Yot Wititpaphathamrong, Tadthawan said she and a group of friends took the images in late October for their own entertainment, not for commercial profit as some critics had alleged.

"We met at a pier close to Klongpittayalongkorn School and took a long-tailed boat to the place where we ended up taking the pictures, about 2km away," she said.

"We walked on for a bit, and found a spot where there were no people about so took the risk of taking the images.

"We did it just for fun, with the pictures to be kept among ourselves. I don't know who released them.

"When I saw they had been leaked to social media I was shocked," she said, apologising to the public for letting them down.

Laying her complaint late last month, the district’s assistant director, Sombat Nampinit, said locals have joined in conserving the swamp.

Pol Col Yot, joined by the head of the district, warned Tadthawan against posing semi-nude in public again, and fined her 500 baht.
