Moving Ah Long, floating 'his' boat, calling it quits

Chalong and family
Director and 2013 National Artist of the Year Chalong Pakdivijit, under fire from his children for marrying a woman 45 years his junior, says he will have to start his life again just to keep them happy.

Chalong, 83, also known as Ah Long, who married Pimsupak "Lek" Insri, 38, in a quiet ceremony at her family home in Si Sa Ket this month, says he is prepared to move out of the family home he bought them and start life again with his new wife.

In more good news for his three adult children, he revealed last week he has left them everything in his will. His new wife won’t get anything, other than her share of money he makes between now and when he dies.

"I will have to start again. But I am sure my relationship with the kids will be as strong as ever," he said.

Ah Long chose not to invite his children to the ceremony. His actor son, Gun, promptly criticised the nuptials on social media, suggesting Ah Long’s new wife, who hails from the poor Northeast, was a gold digger.

"I don’t know who you are, or what you want. Your decision to thrust yourself into our lives, behaving in a wicked fashion but making out you are doing good ... everyone knows the truth," Gun wrote.

He later explained himself, saying he felt sorry for his mother. Ah Long lost his wife and the mother to his children, Sumon "Aew" Pakdivijit, to cancer last April.

After his son's stinging remarks, Ah Long went before the cameras last week to discuss their relationship, though he kept his new wife, Lek, out of sight.

"My decision to marry again will have no bearing on the division of assets, as they will get everything. The only difference is that I will have to start again," he said. "I have to do what is right with the kids, as I made those assets when I was with my wife for 48 years," he added.

Ah Long said he had been working constantly since Aew died, and wanted someone to care for him.

"Who will look after me, give me warmth and encouragement? My kids all have families of their own," he said.

He and Lek met at her elder sister’s birthday party in Bangkok in September.

"I asked myself whether Lek was trying to exploit me. But she has money, and we know each other well. I didn’t look into her background," he said.

Lek phoned in a few remarks as Ah Long was speaking to the interviewer.

"He’s a real man, warm and sweet. He takes good care of me," she enthused.

Contacted later, Gun now insists he has no problem with his father.

"If he wants to move out of the family home, that’s up to dad. I have only just heard about it, and his plan to leave us everything in his will," he said.

The two have barely met since Ah Long married Lek, though Ah Long is confident he and his children can reach an understanding.

"If you ask whether I was worried his new wife would exploit him, from the point of view of his child, yes, I was," Gun said.

"He’s old, but if the other side really has money, then I am OK.''

Netizens are divided over Ah Long’s news he is prepared to start his life again for his children.

"Go and treat yourself to a roast chicken, your dad’s left you everything," wrote one, referring to Gun. Others were more critical.

"You’re the one who should move out. Your father has to leave his own home just because he found a new wife!" -

Nathan and the yacht
Convicted fraudster Nathan Oman is under fire for embellishing stories about his supposed millionaire boyfriend who has asked for his hand in "marriage".

Internet sleuths are raising doubts about the diamond engagement ring he has been showing off to the media, and a luxury yacht his male admirer bought him to mark their engagement on Christmas Eve.

Nathan, a former boy band singer who fell from grace after being convicted for fraud, says he and his admirer, who he has yet to identify, were engaged before family and friends at a Pattaya hotel at Christmas.

He has published pictures of the young man, his face obscured, on bended knee. Nathan says they were on their way back from the Pattaya function when his boyfriend stopped the car on the motorway, and in the middle of the road asked for his hand in marriage.

"I was so embarrassed. But friends and family who were following behind gave us their encouragement," he gushed.

Nathan said he wore a Christian Dior suit to the function, chosen by his boyfriend — and a pair of high-heeled women’s shoes, as befitting his status as his would-be bride.

The couple plan to register their marriage overseas later this year, and return to Thailand for the ceremony. Asked about the dowry, he said his boyfriend had offered a luxury home in Krabi, a yacht and the diamond ring, as big as a clove of elephant garlic.

"In my whole life I have had just fakes. This is the first time I have had the real thing," he said.

Nathan, who spent eight months in jail in 2010 for defrauding a market trader in Loei province of 700,000 baht, says he will ask his fraud victim, Sithiporn "Mod" Kortudomporn, to the wedding.

"I will pay back the money I owe her as agreed," he said.

Nathan says he also plans to seek the forgiveness of elders in the industry.

On the internet, sceptics are not convinced that Nathan’s stories are true.

At the Pantip webboard, amateur sleuths are gearing up for battle, after previously exposing tall tales which Nathan had spun to persuade victims including Mod to part with their money.

These included claims that he was half-Nepalese, multilingual, and was acting in a Hollywood blockbuster set in the Middle East.

Writing on Pantip, one young woman who works in the jewellery industry says she has doubts about Nathan’s supposed diamond ring.

"It looks like a synthetic diamond, such as CZ [cubic zirconia]," she said. "A real diamond winks in the light. In the flash of a camera, his looks dull."

Another Pantip sleuth claims pictures of the yacht which Nathan published on Instagram actually comes from a website of boats for hire.

"That’s the Tayana 52, which first set sail 25 years ago. Even if it changed hands today, it would be worth 10 million baht," the poster said.

"Please tell Nathan to stop ripping off pictures from websites and claiming the craft as his own."

In response, Nathan said he never claimed the yacht was his.

"I chose it simply because I’d like to sleep there one day," he retorted. -

Kratai, Kae
Sexy model Tadsika "Kratai" Yutimit has called off her "lesbian" relationship with model Kanyakorn "Kae" Supakarnkacharoen, saying she felt more like a friend than a true partner.

Kratai last week ended their two-year relationship via social media, leaving a mystified Kae to answer media questions about why they had broken up.

"I left a message on Instagram downgrading our status from partners to mere friend, and after that told her about it," Kratai said.

"The decision stems from my own feelings. When I am in a relationship, I focus on that person. I think we should consider the other person’s feelings in what we say and what we post. Kae didn’t always feel that way."

She said Kae once posted a message thanking an admirer for sending her a bunch of flowers. Kratai was taken by surprise, as the flowers did not come from her. Another time, Kae wrote saying she had many suitors.

Asked to comment, Kae said she felt as if she had been hit by a 10-wheel truck. While they had talked over problems before, this time she felt numb. She did not challenge her partner’s decision, as she didn’t know how to respond.

"I said I understand everything, but I understand nothing at all," she said.

"I have never been on the receiving end of rejection before. But I am sure I did nothing wrong."
