Action star Tony Jaa's dispute with his family has taken a new turn, with his father being admitted to a hospital in Surin with a mysterious ailment.
Thongdee Panom, 67, was wheeled in to Phanom Dong Rak hospital in Surin late last week complaining of coldness in his hands and feet.
Days earlier, Mr Thongdee predicted he would fall ill if his son didn't return to his native Surin to pay respects to the elephants he has raised since he was a child.
"Jaa has been with elephants since he was a kid. He has failed to perform the Pakam chang [elephant ceremony] for two years, which is like doing a wrong by his ancestors. It's making him confused,'' he said.
"Some people won't believe me when I say this, but never mind. His ancestors will punish me, and I'll end up sick,'' he predicted.
Mr Thongdee and other members of his family travelled to Pathum Thani to see Jaa late last month, but the two sides clashed and have now laid assault complaints against each other.
Jaa told Pathum Thani police he was attacked by his brother-in-law Tharat "Joe'' Supphachokphaisan, who intercepted his car as he and his wife went to pick up Jaa's daughter from school.
The complaint says Joe, in the pursuing vehicle, hit them in the rear. A street fight followed.
In he aftermath of the clash, Jaa's estranged family last week laid assault complaints against Jaa, his wife Piyarat "Boong-gi'' Chotiwattananont and her mother.
Their complaint says that when Jaa realised it was them in the pursuing vehicle, he flew into a rage. The fighting later carried on outside Jaa's house, when Boong-gi's mother allegedly joined in.
Joe, who was admitted to hospital after the scrape, said doctors have detected signs of bleeding in his brain.

Meanwhile, an image of Boong-gi after the encounter with bruises to her eye is circulating on the internet.
Adding to Jaa's woes, Joe said he intends suing Jaa for 10 million baht in a dispute over film royalties.
He said Jaa has refused to pay their film production company a 25% share of royalties from his film, Ong Bak 3. Jaa withdrew his shares in the company when he married three years ago.
Explaining the family dispute in a round of media appearances last week, Joe denied that Jaa's family was merely trying to get their hands on his money.
"Jaa hasn't come back home for two years, so imagine what people are thinking. And Jaa is an important person who has made a name for himself,'' Joe said.
"We don't look at it simply in terms of money, though I admit he has a lot. But it's less important than his dad missing him.''
Joe said he took Jaa's father to meet him because they heard the news that Jaa was about to travel to the US to appear in a Hollywood movie.

Model Kawintra "Kaem'' Photijak admits she finds it hard to control her jealous streak when women rub their bodies against her handsome footballer boyfriend.
The 2008 Miss Thailand Universe winner says she gets upset when Rachat "Noom'' Chaijan's female fans take liberties.
"We're both jealous types, so he understands how I feel. He tries not to interfere [when I am like that],'' she said.
Former childhood sweethearts who went to the same school in Nong Khai, Kaem and Noom met up again years later, after they had both moved to Bangkok.

"I came to realise he was in every emotional phase of my life, so I decided to take a closer look,'' she said earlier this year when they started dating.
Kaem now admits she is still fiercely protective of her lover, who plays for the Thai Premier League team Pattaya United.
"I admit I let fly at his fans sometimes. Some of them just go too far. They paw at him and rub their breasts against his body. When I see them touching him, I tell them plainly to their face that I don't like it.
"They create a hue and cry on Facebook when I criticise them, but I'm not interested, because I have to look at my boyfriend and see how he reacts.''
Kaem said she doesn't mind if Noom poses for pictures with fans, as long as his admirers ask politely and keep their hands to themselves.
"When he knows I'm not happy, he tells his fans: `I'm sorry, but my girlfriend doesn't like it.' I'm happy with that. I'm the open type, and don't like secrets.'' -

Actress and model Patcharapa "Aum'' Chaichuea has reunited with her boyfriend, days after declaring her own dog obsession had driven them apart.
Aum told the media late last month that she and boyfriend Pithan "Amp'' Ongkorsit were no longer talking, and put down the split to her own grieving over the loss of a pet dog.
On Sept 18, Aum, who regularly supports dog charities, posted on her Facebook an RIP message to her dog Guitar, and pictures of a funeral she held for the dog, which she raised for 16 years.
"He's a good person and I have no complaints there,'' she said, announcing their split.
"I blame myself for being obsessed with dogs. Some people are unable understand what it's like to lose a dog you love,'' she said.
Three days later, however, Aum had a change of mind, posting on Instagram a music video which she and her friends made to mark Amp's birthday last week.
She also posted pictures of herself and Amp at his birthday party, and thanked her fans for their support.
"If anyone criticises Pi Amp for his attitude towards dogs, let me tell you it's just not true,'' Aum wrote on Instagram.
"He often gives money to worthy causes and people in need. Nor was any other woman involved. I just get too emotional about dogs. I was crying more than 10 times a day, and he couldn't understand it.'' Amp promptly updated his status on Instagram to include a picture of Aum.
Welcoming the news the pair are now back together, Aum's model and acting friend, Pichnat May Sakakorn, said the A-list soap opera star may be ready to tie the knot next year.
"We tease each other about who'll be first to get married. I think it might be Aum, as she's ready to go, and nothing much is happening in my life at the moment,'' she said.
