DAD SAYS DRUG PIC REAL, KING'S RICE ROW, SAM SPOOKS OAH

The actress
The father of a teen actress implicated in a drugs scandal is sticking by his claims that his daughter took drugs, despite denials by Labour Minister Chalerm Yubamrung.

Mr Chalerm, in his capacity as director of the National Command Centre for Combatting Drugs, stepped into the saga on Friday, asserting that a urine test conducted on the young woman two days before showed she was clear of drugs.

Mr Chalerm took the actress, who cannot be named, her father and Office of the Narcotics Control Board secretary-general Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen before the media to insist the young woman was in the clear.

Chalerm, the actress
He played down a picture in which she appears to be smoking methamphetamine, which set off the saga after it was leaked on social media on Wednesday.

"People can do anything to doctor pictures these days. Her father probably told the media she had taken drugs because he was still in shock,'' Mr Chalerm said.

He banned reporters from asking the father or his daughter any questions about the affair.

The young woman spent most of the press conference crying, until Mr Chalerm asked her and her father, Mr Surasak, to wait in another room.

Speaking outside, however, the woman's father said he stood by his claims that his daughter had experimented with drugs.

She herself had told him she had tried them once. She was told they would help her lose weight.

He said she admitted taking the drugs after he asked about the picture. He had told her to get a drug test at Rama IX Hospital.

"I feel relieved that the urine test shows she is clear of drugs. The reason I didn't mention the results previously is that I am not an expert on these things, and didn't know if they meant she was clean or not,'' he said.

Pol Gen Pongsapat
He was willing to be guided by Pol Gen Pongsapat, who made contact to offer his help.

He had not asked in any detail about the leaked picture, in which the actress appears with another young woman using what appears to be home-made drugs equipment.

"I have taught my daughter that while you can con other people, you can't con yourself,'' he said. He had asked her to take a break from the industry as she reflected on her actions.

Earlier on Friday, TV presenter Wootithorn "Woody'' Milintachinda said someone had attempted to sell him the picture last month for 50,000 baht. He decided not to take up the offer, as he didn't think other media outlets would run with the news.

"In the end, someone must have bought it. I send the actress my best wishes, as she is still young and has her whole career in front of her,'' he said.

On Thursday, the young woman's father contacted the producers of a teen reality series in which she stars to say the picture was real - despite claims on her Facebook page that it was part of a promotion for the show.

In the hours after it was leaked on social media, fans who run her Facebook page claimed the picture was part of a promotion for the series.

Mr Surasak called the media the same day to insist the picture was authentic. He apologised to the public and said his daughter felt remorse for what she had done.

The series' producer said he was shocked that Mr Surasak wanted to go public with the news, though he also commended him for his openness.

The call had taken them by surprise, as they, too, had assumed the image of the actress taking drugs was staged for a promotion. -

King
Singer Pichet "King'' Buakam has made a hasty apology after claiming on Facebook that his wife suffered a bout of food poisoning after eating spoiled rice.

King said he and his wife bought a cooked rice dish outside home and that shortly after eating it, she started vomiting uncontrollably. He took her to hospital.

"I already worry about what I eat, but now I have to worry about my family as well,'' he wrote in a Facebook message posted from Vibhavadi Hospital.

"Why does it have to happen to people so close to me? I think about it and get angry,'' he said.

Far from being sympathetic, many netizens criticised the post, saying King was trying to cash in on media reports that Thai rice was contaminated.

"If the rice has gone off, it would smell bad,'' one poster said. "Why did your wife fail to notice?''

Others took issue with his choice of the word "rotten'' rather than "spoiled''.

"The word 'rotten' applies only to uncooked rice. You are obviously trying to piggyback on news stories about the quality of rice stockpiles kept in government silos,'' another poster said.

King posted his comments shortly after TV presenter Sutthiphong Thammawuthi took to Facebook to criticise the quality of packed rice produced by the Charoen Pokphand Group. Sutthipong was forced to apologise after the firm threatened legal action.

Stung by the criticism of his own remarks, King apologised promptly, saying he made them without thinking.

"I didn't mean to malign anyone and I'm sorry for causing offence,'' he said. "My child still feeds from his mother's milk, and could in turn could fall ill if his mother is sick,'' he explained.

Some fans are still not satisfied. "These days so many critics come out to slam this or that, but the moment they stand to suffer some discomfort, they immediately offer a craven apology,'' one sniffed."Where are your principles?'' -

Oah
Actress Rungrawee "Oah'' Barijindakul is steering clear of a celebrity manager whom she accuses of pursuing her vehicle in a menacing manner and ramming her car when she refused to stop.

Oah told Kannayao police in Bangkok last week that Tananeak "Sam'' Orcharoj, manager of actor Matthew Deane, chased her down Panya Indra Road on July 10 as she made her way home.

Oah, who said she had known Sam about three years, said she noticed him following her in his Toyota and when he honked his horn assumed he was merely greeting her.

However, she said Sam sped up and started cutting in front of her Mercedes-Benz coupe, weaving left and right.

"I'm not a strong driver, and was scared about what might happen,'' she said.

Sam
"I stopped at a housing village and asked a security guard for help, but he didn't want to get involved. Sam was still chasing me in his car,'' she said.

"I couldn't think straight. I cut across the road at an angle to stop him chasing me. But he refused to stop, and drove into the back of my car.''

A left-hand side window of her car was broken and a passenger door was left with deep scratches.

"He left his vehicle and tapped on my window, but I refused to get out,'' she told police.

"I tried to take a picture of him on my mobile phone, but he saw my phone and fled the scene.''

Moments before the incident, Oah had posted on Facebook a picture of herself at a nearby eatery. She believes Sam saw the picture and set out in pursuit of her.

Asked for his response, Sam said the two live in adjoining housing villages and he happened to be in the area.

"I have never tracked her down like some star-obsessed fan, as the media claims,'' he said. "I'm too busy with work. But we hadn't spoken for a month, and I felt there were matters we should discuss. I'm the kind of person who doesn't like to leave matters hanging.''

He denies chasing her, claiming the incident arose as a result of a misunderstanding.

"I merely wanted to clear the air, but she refused to stop. I was in a hurry and hit her car by accident,'' he insisted.

Sam said he was willing to pay for damage to her car. Police are investigating.
