SOUTHERN SONGS, ROMANCE BLOSSOMS, GRISLY MEETING

Ken and an admirer
Celebrities have harnessed their star appeal to raise two million baht for southern flood victims.

On Wednesday, about 300 entertainers came together for a fund-raiser at CentralWorld.

They performed a concert, auctioned hugs and kisses, and solicited donations over an eight-hour show.

Actor Theeradej "Ken'' Wongpuapan led the pack, raising 95,000 baht from fans who donated money and took turns for a quick hug and kiss on stage.

His wife, actress Bussakorn "Noi'' Wongpuapan, who consented to the kissing, chipped in another 5,000 baht to round off his total to 100,000 baht.

This made Ken the star with the hottest pulling power, though some celebrities put their hands in their pockets to make donations worth similar amounts. Actors Atichart "Aum'' Chumnanont, and Sririta "Rita'' Jensen donated 50,000 baht each, while Chompoo "Ariya'' Hargate and Sudarat "Tukkie'' Buthprom donated 100,000 each.

Singer Wantongchai "Tol'' Intharawat from the Academy Fantasia 5 talent quest raised 50,000 baht by auctioning a T-shirt, actress Patcharapa "Aum'' Chaichuea raised 30,000 baht after just a brief appearance, while actress Khemanit "Pancake'' Jamikorn and actor Arak "Pae'' Amornsupasiri raised 20,000 baht from auctioning two giant teddy bears.-

Peuy, Tem
Singer Watthisit "Tem'' Seubsuwann has reunited with former love, actress Panward "Peuy'' Hemmanee, though denies he is merely drumming up publicity for an album release.

Tem called off their relationship on Valentine's Day, after he took exception to a media report that claimed he was seeing Peuy merely to leach off her fame.

Tem surprised journalists at a city function last week when he told them that while he still felt sensitive about those claims, he realises he was too hard on Peuy, who still loved him and had talked about wanting to get back together.

"As far as I am concerned, we are an item again, though I have yet to discuss the matter with Peuy,'' he told journalists.

In February, when they broke up, Tem was working on an album. He said he wasn't going to stick with Peuy if it meant his motives would be questioned.

"On Valentine's Day, Peuy bought me a bunch of roses. We chatted briefly, and it grew from there. We talked to each other on the phone, and went out for meals,'' he said, adding "I succumbed to her goodness.''

Tem was speaking at a celebrity concert for southern flooding victims. When Peuy turned up, Tem greeted her before journalists with the news that they should try again.

Peuy, who looked stunned, said she hadn't been expecting the reconciliation. Tem gave her a hug for the cameras.

The couple denied they staged their making-up for the benefit of the media. Tem's album is now finished and about to be released, but that was just a coincidence, he insisted. -

Sarah, Adullah (inset)
An actress has come face to face with the Burmese man accused of killing her mother in the bathroom of her home.

Kwankamol "Sarah'' Pathan burst into tears when she saw the migrant labourer accused of killing her mother, Jantana, 41, at her Pathum Thani home early on April 14.

Sahidulra (or Adullah), 34, a Burmese labourer, allegedly cut Jantana's throat when she discovered him and an accomplice, Mohk, lying in wait in her bathroom.

Police say Sahidulra dumped Jantana's body in the bath and took her valuables. He and Mohk worked for her husband Usaman in his abattoir until two or three months ago. Sahidulra was arrested in Mae Sot district of Tak province last week and charged with premeditated murder.

Sahidulra allegedly told police that he and Mohk broke into the home intending to kill Mr Usaman.

The suspect claimed he was an unkind boss, who docked his wages, threatened him and ultimately chased him from the premises with a gun.

He said that on the night of the murder, he met Mohk for a drink when they decided to take their revenge. They let themselves into the couple's home and decided to surprise Mr Usaman when he visited the bathroom. However, his wife went instead, and caused a commotion.

Mr Usaman and actress daughter Sarah (Garin's Uncanny File) visited Khlong Luang police station in Pathum Thani on Tuesday when police took their suspect before the media.

They hugged after coming face to face with the accused.

His alleged accomplice, Mohk, cannot be found.

Mr Usaman said he was missing his wife, and denied being a cruel boss.
