Nathan |
His story about acting in a Hollywood blockbuster, The Prince of Red Shoe, was a fabrication, he now admits, as were his claims to be part-Nepalese, and the master of five languages.
As he fights charges laid by a family of alleged victims in Loei province this month that he has defrauded them of 740,000 baht, Nathan has decided to come clean about his past.
In a two-part interview with the Woody Kert Ma Kui show to be broadcast tonight and next Sunday, Nathan says he made up the story about the Hollywood movie, and about his exotic roots in the Middle East.
Nathan told the media last year that he had landed a starring role in the film, based on an award-winning short story about his life.
He claimed he was starring opposite Bruce Willis and Christina Ricci in the movie, directed by Wolfgang Peterson for 20th Century Fox.
While a gullible media at first swallowed the claims, sceptical Thai netizens could find no trace of the movie, and the studio denied it existed.
That didn't stop Nathan, who insisted he had spent six months shooting scenes in the desert, shared bonding moments with his heroes Bruce and Christina, and stood to make 100 million baht from the three-part spectacular.
Nathan says people prefer hearing lies to the truth, so making up stories was no problem.
"When I speak the truth, they don't believe me, but they are happy to believe in lies,'' he tells his host, Wootithorn ``Woody'' Milintajinda.
"The stories grow into big lies and explain why I face the problems that I do today. However, now I have nothing more to lose. I have no image to protect.
"I would like to be myself, to speak the truth on everything,'' he says.
Nathan, a former singer for RS Promotion, admits he has told lies about himself since his entry to the entertainment industry in his teens, but claims he did it at the behest of five or six "benefactors''.
"I was in need of love. They told me what to say, so I did it, as I feared rejection,'' he claims.
When asked whether he ever felt contrite, or chastised himself for being a fraud, Nathan says there were some moments when he felt bad about deceiving people. "However, people around me were making me lie.'' -

Grammy singer Marsha Vadhanapanich and a celebrity DJ have pulled the plug on their six-year relationship, with the DJ still in debt to her for millions of baht.
After telling the media last month they were taking a break from each other, DJ Krit Sripoomset and veteran singer Marsha acknowledged last week that they are now apart. Media reports were divided over whether the main issue was Krit's faithfulness, or the money he owes her.
Marsha spoke to Thai Rath newspaper, which claimed that Marsha confronted Krit about rumours that he was seeing another woman.
Krit, who has a reputation as a ladies' man, denied it, but the couple argued and life had not been the same since.
"I would like us to end on a happy note. When my relationships go sour, I do not criticise my former lovers publicly. I am trying to remember the fun times we had together,'' said Marsha.
The Dara Daily gossip rag claimed that after hearing about Krit's many dalliances, Marsha went for a blood test, and was relieved to find he did not leave her any parting gift.
Krit, who went before the media with his lawyer to answer the claims, said he borrowed just five million baht from Marsha, not some of the wilder figures bandied about in the media.
The two signed a loan agreement at his suggestion.
"We have been having problems for the last year-and-a-half or two years. However, I have been faithful in all that time,'' he said.
Contrary to claims that he intended to dish dirt on Marsha, he said the two parted amicably and are still in regular contact. -

A DJ is contemplating a countersuit after a court threw out a case brought against her by a mannish businesswoman she earlier accused of being a thief.
The Criminal Court has overturned a case brought against DJ Ubonwan "Tookta'' Bunrort by interior designer Pathsamapudin "James'' Akarawongtrakun, after James failed to show at court.
Crime Suppression Division police have charged mannish James - a "handsome woman'', to quote the media - with fraud in a transnational case which some reports say involves damages of 100 million baht.
Tookta and co-complainant Chadaporn "Da'' Ratanakorn, a former actress, told police that James saddled them with large debts by running up credit in their names. Banks and finance companies are also involved, as they want their money back.
James, for her part, sued Tookta after she called her a thief, though the court has now overturned the case after James failed to present her witnesses.
At court on Nov 30, James's lawyer asked for a delay, as his client was busy caring for her sick mother. The court, however, decided her absence wasn't justified by the circumstances, and rejected the case.
Tookta, who said she was heartened by the decision, said she may sue James for taking legal action on false pretences.
Her lawyer, Monchai Jongkrairattanakul, said James has to report to the Nonthaburi court on Dec 23 on a bail matter in a case brought by former actress Da. -

Extrovert talent manager to the stars, Supachai "A'' Sriwichit is upset about suggestions that his trademark handbags are mere counterfeit copies of the real thing.
Police raided a factory selling counterfeit bags and found A's name on the customer list, according to media reports.
When news of the police bust reached A, he was fuming. "I buy only the real thing ... I have never bought a fake bag in my life,'' he said, inviting journalists to inspect his collection of 20 over-sized bags if they still hold any doubts.
"I have nothing against people who prefer to buy imitation versions ... but I opt for quality, so buy the real thing,'' he said.
A, who counts A-list star Patcharapa "Aum'' Chaichua among his clients, prefers to carry Hermes bags, though after a recent bout of frayed nerves, which left him with numbness over his body, he switched to smaller Burberry bags.
"They are lighter, so spare my arm muscles, but also big enough to hide my tummy,'' he said approvingly. -

A Channel 7 actor whose former girlfriend doused him with a caustic substance doubts she intended to drink the liquid herself as she claims.
Danai "Dan'' Samutkojorn is nursing burns to his face and hands after his former girlfriend broke into his home in Bung Kum, Bangkok, on Nov 24 and in an ensuing struggle doused him and a female visitor from the US with an unknown liquid.
Dan said his former girlfriend, Praewpan "Kaew'' Somphongmit, above inset, was angry to find him there with the woman, and attacked them with the caustic substance.
Dan and his friend filed a complaint with Khok Kham police, who laid charges against Kaew of assault, breaking into Dan's home, and damaging his possessions.
Kaew denied the charges when she appeared before Khok Kham police on Wednesday.
Earlier, she said she did not intend harming Dan or his female friend.
She could not accept the thought of life without him and had prepared a mix of bathroom cleanser and caustic soda, which she intended to drink herself. In the ensuing melee, the contents spilled over Dan and his friend.
Dan, however, said he is not convinced that she intended to do only herself harm.
"She turned up with two bottles of the liquid. Later, I also found a blood-soaked knife which she had brought with her.
"After we broke up, she repeatedly threatened to kill me, and throw acid at me,'' he told journalists.
Dan said he no longer feels safe inside his home, even though he has boosted security, and the housing estate where he lives has put up posters of Kaew, warning residents not to let the woman in.
Dan showed reporters SMS messages which Kaew sent him two days after the attack, gloating that she knew where he lives and might pay him another visit.
"I know where is your house ... lol,'' said one, written in English.
